Epidemiology Trump's WHO withdrawal slammed by experts for 'making the world less safe'
https://www.the-express.com/news/us-news/161153/trump-us-who-withdraw-inauguration407
u/Izawwlgood PhD | Neurodegeneration Jan 21 '25
Yep, and that's the point. The entire point of his platform and modern Republicans remains "freedom from experts".
The sooner we realize that the sooner we can prepare.

u/VK198 Jan 21 '25
Are we going back in time? Soon there will be people who say washing their hands are for satan and germ theory was created by the evil democrats

USA has the CDC, it's a strong organisation. USA don't need another organisation with useless bureaucracy and puppets controlled by billionaires.
57
u/luars613 Jan 21 '25
All experts should leave that country to literally anywhere.
22
u/Cersad PhD | Molecular Biology Jan 21 '25
Turns out the job market outside the US can be smaller than the job market that a lot of US- based experts relied on to make a living.
I expect other countries will have quite the advantage in poaching US-based scientists, though.
1
u/luars613 Jan 22 '25
M8 life is more than money.
8
u/Cersad PhD | Molecular Biology Jan 22 '25
True, but money does pay the rent and put food on the table.
23
u/Izawwlgood PhD | Neurodegeneration Jan 21 '25
Hey, you're not wrong, and hey, it's happening! Brain drain is real. Anecdotally, about a dozen international scientists I work with are putting together transition plans to leave the US now. They're either riding out contracts, or school years, etc, and will be heading home or elsewhere.

u/Frequent_Table7869 Jan 21 '25
Trumpets have put themselves into a very safe corner of believing that anyone who trump doesnt approve of is wrong or lying. Now they don’t have to worry about anything real because trump says it’s not real
2
1
u/phinphis Jan 21 '25
Natural selection, when the bird flu hits hard it hopefully it will take the stupid ones first.
1
u/camposdav Jan 22 '25
Does the US not have their own experts? Genuine question? Do we not have qualified doctors and nurses that take care of our population? We also have virologist as well. So not sure why people saying exiting the WHO is us taking away US citizens from experts.
Personally the way they handled the Initial outbreak of COVID should have shown they are a political agency. When they showed favoritism to China and their lack of transparency and many people died in the mean time. They lost credibility with me and many other people it has nothing to do with trump.
2
u/Izawwlgood PhD | Neurodegeneration Jan 23 '25
You may not be aware but the US scientific and professional community makes significant use of H1B carrying professionals.
Who do you think these experts are? Was fauci not an expert? Is RFK an expert? Dr. Oz?
Why do you trust whoever says what you want to hear and reject anyone who knows more?
1
u/LP14255 Jan 24 '25
Hey! RFK is an expert at injecting heroin. He did it for 14 years and fried his brain in the process.
-30
u/ebfortin Jan 21 '25
I agree but at the same time, do we care really? Why would we need the US everywhere? There are good experts all over the planet. Making up for the cash they were giving to the WHO, divided by the membere, is nothing. Let them isolate themselves.
18
u/tisused Jan 21 '25
I think we should care because the US not being in the WHO will increase the risk of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and infectious diseases everywhere on the planet. If you don't believe in that, then it probably makes sense from an economic and sovereignty point of view.
And on the other hand non-western powers will have more power in the WHO and we might have to buy our vaccines from China and Russia in the next pandemic.
10
u/ebfortin Jan 21 '25
The US is not a trustworthy partner anymore anyway. I understand what you are saying. But things have changed. The US is not what they used to be.
9
u/Bowltotheface Jan 21 '25
The US needs a decade to reintegrate citizen trust. Maybe super fast trains would help or a 4 day workweek.
1
u/Gaothaire Jan 22 '25
Maybe we'll have a chance to start rebuilding around the middle of the century
5
u/Bowltotheface Jan 21 '25
I think it’s about the global trade… For example how do you feel about Trump making the US billions off of oppressive regimes that buy high level weapons and weapons of mass destruction from a government which agrees that is in our country’s best interest. Investing in the rich instead of world populations.
4
u/Izawwlgood PhD | Neurodegeneration Jan 21 '25
The US benefited greatly from being part of the WHO. Maybe you need reminding that COVID was an international issue, and the US benefited from research and resources provided by other countries as well as they benefited from our research and resources?
-1
u/ebfortin Jan 21 '25
Yes but the US is not a trustworthy partner internationally anymore. We should start working towards not needing them around. Not saying it's easy, but we don't have much choice now do we?
2
u/weededorpheus32 Jan 21 '25 edited Jan 21 '25
When you're ignorant of a matter it's usually better to just stfu instead of suggesting a bunch of bs.
0
u/ebfortin Jan 21 '25
It's done. He removed the US from the WHO. What are you gonna do? Complain that it's not a good decision until the end of time, or try to make it work without the US? That's my point. Not easy but we have to. And not the WHO only. Everything where countries work together. We need to think and organize as if the US is not there anymore. We can't trust them.
46
u/Temperoar Jan 21 '25
This is really alarming.. geopolitics aside, cutting down global health system puts everyone at risk
2
u/sproqetz72 Jan 22 '25
When has this asshat ever done anything that didn’t endanger the world for his benefit. Elect a clown, expect a whole bunch of monkeys throwing shit everywhere.
29
u/VagueSomething Jan 21 '25
Turns out when you run a party on hate, you don't think about the future.
57
u/Sweaty_Assignment_90 Jan 21 '25
All the U.S gets now is our side is going to undo everything their side has done. In 4-8 years, repeat.
34
u/Xxfarleyjdxx Jan 22 '25
this has been the cycle for decades. republicans come in, ruin the economy, reverse progressivism, limit women rights and even basic human rights, and then a democrat has to come in and fix it all while being ridiculed and blamed for what the republican administration did during their term.
3
u/thereisnosub Jan 22 '25
Also voters refuse to vote for the democrats because they don't fix the mess quickly enough.
65
u/Whooptidooh Jan 21 '25
He doesn’t care about safety, he cares about money and fame.
7
u/DangDoood Jan 21 '25
It’ll be perfect timing too— when/if we finally get someone actually left leaning, they’ll blame all of trumps fuck ups on democrats! /s
69
u/VVynn Jan 21 '25
This is all part of Putin’s plan to decrease America’s influence on the world.
31
u/RightSideBlind Jan 21 '25
Unfortunately, pandemics don't tend to respect national borders.
3
u/Jubjars Jan 21 '25
Didn't China once warn US that certain parties were designing ethnic bioweapons? So you can isolate virality to regions based on the traits more common in specific nations? Not just visual traits too. That's a small part of genetics.

1
u/grislyfind Jan 21 '25
There were multiple assassination attempts on Hitler, but God protected him. Fuck God.
4
u/sigristl Jan 21 '25
And that is only but one of the more innocuous ways he is making the world less safe. God help us all.
6
u/Archy99 Jan 22 '25
This is volunarily giving up a subtantial amount of power, it is a clear sign of the decline of US hegemony.
10
u/AcanthisittaNo6653 Jan 21 '25
Someday they will be canceling flights from the US because of the unchecked epidemic raging here. If RFK won't help then WHO?
3
u/mydogsaweirdo Jan 21 '25
That’s been the plan all along. Keep it together folks. We’re all in this together.
3
5
u/onceforgoton Jan 21 '25
Oh yeah did they slam it? Has it been slammed? Thank god the slammers are here. We’d never make it with all this stuff going unslammed.

2
u/Bind_Moggled Jan 21 '25
IDK, the world might be better off WITHOUT health advice from the land where embryos are people, climate change is a hoax, invermectin is for humans, and masks are assaults on personal freedom.
2
u/Known_Attorney_456 Jan 22 '25
Man, this is so bad. You would not want our health science people talking talking to all the other health science people in the world.
2
u/shadowst17 Jan 22 '25
Atleast this means when another pandemic starts up, banning Americans will be an obvious first response this time.
2
Jan 22 '25
It’s the evangelical goal to speed the second coming of whatever they think Jesus is. 🤦♀️ so dumb
2
2
u/etharper Jan 22 '25
And he did this despite a growing bird flu issue that could very easily get out of control. I find it embarrassing that Americans are dumb and unethical enough to support a man like this.
2
u/Independent-Shoe543 Jan 22 '25
I think the COVID-19 excuse is a cover for him wanting to make the CDC more powerful/the new governing body

No way the guy who downplayed covid and convinced an entire political party to deny it existence and defy mask protocols leading to over 1 million covid-related deaths in the USA is just now making the world less safe! Can't believe it. The guy who asked if the national guard could just shoot protestors. The same guy? Really.. I guess pulling out of the world health organization does seem to be making the world less safe. Who could have predicted this?
1
u/bigfatfurrytexan Jan 21 '25
Maybe the world should have got in the election interference game too, instead of letting Russia and China do whatever unchecked.

Countries and areas that keep fighting, having more and more babies, instead of spending on education, health, end, science should shoulder responsibility of keeping the world safe too
1
u/Competitive_Peace211 Jan 21 '25
I'll say it now, if we get another pandemic like covid that causes a lockdown that will infinitely hurt the Republicans for years to come. It will be very hard for him to argue that his administration didn't cause another global pandemic when it has happened twice in the past 10 years and only when he was in office.
People hate the lockdowns and will turn on Trump if it happens again.
1
Jan 21 '25
Divide the masses and its easy to control. Make them fight each other while you steal their wallets, clothes, and food. Dead people cant show discontent. Welcome to Amerussia

Trump wants pain and suffering. He wants retribution. Telling him it will make the world less safe will make his little mushroom grow.

u/Bags55 Jan 22 '25
He’s already responsible for over a million covid deaths….he’s not happy with that??
1
u/GaiusJocundus Jan 22 '25

You don't fuckin' say?!

Bad news on the surface of things but there’s no way US medical professionals won’t stop sharing. Yeah, CDCP will be cut from the loop, but it’s not like everyone will be. Idiots…
1
u/klutzikaze Jan 22 '25
Not sure how stupid of a question this is - Considering how the US is terrible about testing and dealing with H5N1 and other pathogens how much does it matter to the rest of the world if the US pulls out of the WHO? I feel like the US has negatively affected the WHO responded to covid (eg the delayed acknowledgement of covid being airborne) and that affected the rest of the world.
1
u/Spirited_Example_341 Jan 22 '25
ya know honestly at this point nothing really surprises me of this man

u/QVRedit Jan 22 '25
It’s doing non-obvious things for the USA.
Mostly helping to keep pandemics away.

Trump doesn’t care about experts
Trump doesn’t even care care about most of his voters
As long as he and his billionaire mates are okay, Trump just doesn’t care.

So Americans are okay with the who having the power to declare pandemics and have full authority of how your country handles it meaning lockdowns total shut down of your economy look it up that's the power the who seeked and we're granted under biden administration

WHO VS Shanghai virology lab number 1 expert in COVID.....
The people who are getting virus information from the news are telling the people who got COVID information from virology labs to believe in science
The first Covid cure was published in 2003 by Shanghai virology lab ( Forsythia ) 98% success rate 0 side effects. The 2nd Covid cure was published Aug 22 2005 from Dr Fauci himself ( HCQ ) easy way to find this. Google "2005 Covid cure"
COVID information comes from virology labs and no one else

u/longshotist Jan 23 '25
If a tabloid mentions something in the very last paragraph only, with no source cited or quote, then it must be true!

USA has the CDC, it's a strong organisation. USA don't need another organisation with useless bureaucracy and puppets controlled by billionaires.

u/Chairman_Me Jan 23 '25
Even if we ignore the massive death toll, a second pandemic will absolutely decimate the economy.
1
u/alohabuilder Jan 23 '25
Didn’t he do this right before the last pandemic because he thought it was a waist of government funding. ?
1
u/WorldlinessThis2855 Jan 24 '25
Don’t worry people! The vaccines were the thing that were ACTUALLY giving you diseases and cancer!! IT WAS THE DEEP STATE MAKING YOU SICK AND GAY!!

1
u/ficcum Jan 25 '25
…(cont’d) strong ally has now become a rogue state who cannot be trusted. If this is a negotiating tactic, Trump is playing a game that only he is playing and is continually changing the rules. It is far better to have no partner than a partner that cannot be relied on

Love when people say he only cares about America and Americans. That's so fucking hilarious.
He doesn't give a shit, it's all just a joke to him. His goal is to punish the morons who voted for him, by doing the most damage he can. That's why every law, agency, or anything that's of benefit to the American people, he repeals and or shuts it down.
And the even funnier (or sadder, depends how you look at it) thing is, those same morons who voted for him are supporting his every choice and cheer for him. Unbeknownst to them, he'll make their lives hell.
He even repealed the bill for lower prescription prices. Fuckers fucked around and are about to find out what happens when you vote an incompetent idiot clown into office.

u/Inspect1234 Jan 21 '25
Can’t wait for the detention camps and the violent protests that come with “the 🤡 show”. So many resources and taxpayer money will be wasted to deport Muricans, however this will be a distraction from the oligarchs raiding the treasury.

I think its fair to point out the UN is NOTORIOUS for misappropriating funds at basically every level. Is it so bad to stop paying into that? The UN doesnt function as it was intended to anymore. Its a beaurocratic mess
3
u/GeekShallInherit Jan 22 '25
Accuracy of your comment aside, why are you bringing up the UN in a discussion about the WHO?
