While I didn't realize it just today, for the longest time I thought Bard (in The Hobbit) had been a second casting for Orlando Bloom. This picture, I think, illustrates my confusion. Bloom, Bard, Evans.

I had to ask to make sure that Bard wasn't Orlando Bloom doing Will Turner from PotC.

Thought so myself while watching the movie today!

I had the same problem for half the teasers I saw for the movie until a redditor pointed it out to me one day in comments.

Similar thing happened to me in 2011's Three Musketeers. Luke Evans is Aramis, and I turn to my friend and say, "It's like they really wanted to get Orlando Bloom for that part, but couldn't." Then later in the movie Orlando Bloom shows up as the Duke of Buckingham. They couldn't get Orlando Bloom, because he was already in the movie!

Me and my wife thought Orlando Bloom was Aramis, but when the duke showed up we were confused as fuck.

I thought so too until I saw Legolas show up in the movie. Thanks for posting this. :)

I had to look it up before I saw the movie. I argued for a couple hours about it and then to prove my point I looked it up. I felt like an asshole.

But they look nothing alike. Just look at the shape of the jaw or the cheekbones.

I would say that given the number of people (including me) who thought they were the same person, it seems clear that they do look somewhat alike.

I'm convinced that there are (at least) 2 different ways that people identify faces. I can't do any version, but to me, he looked a lot like Orlando Bloom in this movie.

I thought so too even though I knew better. That's the worst part, I kept going "I can't believe they...wait a minute, they didn't."

When I saw the trailers I thought it was Bloom too. Wasnt until I saw the movie last night that I realized it wasnt.

They should have switched Orlando Bloom and Luke Evans' roles round in Desolation, just to see how many people would notice.

I just don't see it, honestly.

I did too, until my boyfriend told me it was not Bloom.

I love Luke Evans (guy who plays Bard the Bowman) so I recognized him instantly. He does bear some resemblance to Orlando, but thankfully he has far superior acting skills lol

You weren't alone. It took some mighty convincing from my friends who went with me to see it, and the credits to realize it wasn't in fact, Orlando Bloom.

They have a very common facial type. For a long time I thought Legolas was played by Christopher Masterson, Malcolm's older brother Francis.

Same here. This was a major casting fuck-up by Peter Jackson.
