Question Getting into watching the series

so i'm f1 fan and giving formulaE a chance i tried watching wec before but the long races isn't just for me i could watch the highlights ,
So i've found formulaE a good 2nd series to watch in motorsports i watched the jeddah grand prix i think round 3 but i want to cheer for a team but i have no idea what are the teams are and if there is power ranking like f1 having 4 good teams then mid tier and backmarkers i'm a ferrari fan and loving the advancements williams is making under james vowels.

So can someone tell me a little bit about each team or guide me to a resource to learn more about them.
and if there like some history to the championship like who has most titles ....etc

i'm kinda inclined towards Nismo just because it is a japanese manufacturer but still want to know more about all

If you are a Ferrari fan, I would like to invite you to cheer for Jaguar. The team is always near the top, but unable to win the title somehow. Anyway, next year is our year.

I started following back in Gen2 era, because they had a cool teal livery. Also it's arguably one of the heritage names in the motorsport.

I sticked with them as they got some of my favourite drivers (Evans, Bird and now Cassidy) and some of my favourite FE moments are connected with them, like Evan's Beau Rivage overtake in Monaco or the infamous Berlin finale invertor failure at start.

I dislike Jaguar strategy team though as they are clowns during important title deciding races. I still can't fathom last season first London race when they went from 1-2 and both titles to 2-7 no titles.

That whole team radio saga was a good case study into why having two top drivers is a risky game. Just no way they could manage that whole situation in the title deciding race.

Welcome to FE! It's full of chaos and top notch racing. As an F1 fan myself, I can say you'll enjoy it but expect very different type of racing with a way different set of strategy play, heroes/villains, etc.

Tbh, anyone can win but to simplify it, power rankings IMO are as follows for the last couple seasons:

  • Top 3: Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan
  • Middle pack: McLaren, Andretti, DS Penske, Maserati MSG, Envision
  • Bottom: Lola Yamaha, Kiro Cupra (both "new" teams)

Drivers to follow with cool personalities/very talented:

  • Da Costa (Porsche)
  • Evans (Jag)
  • Ticktum (Kiro Cupra)
  • Günther (DS)
  • Barnard (McLaren)

For some intro videos that explain well the history and technical aspects of the sport, here are my recommendations:

Welcome! FE is awesome. Some of the best racing out there! This year has started off pretty well. I'm from America and root for Andretti and Jake Dennis since his rookie year. Right now I'd say there is like 8+ drivers that could win any weekend. The Porche cars, both factory and Andretti have been the strongest in this gen 3 era, but now in Gen 3 Evo, Jaguar has stepped it up. They have 2 championship caliber drives in Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy.

Here is a good team overview: https://www.fiaformulae.com/en/teams

And all the drivers: https://www.fiaformulae.com/en/drivers

Feel free to ask any questions! Miami is this next weekend and it looks like a great FE circuit, its new this year to FE.

Do you like underdog, or do you like a team with heritage?

With OP following Ferrari and Williams, it can be either lol.. Williams are the current underdogs and Ferrari is.. well.. Ferrari (crying in Red)

If he likes Ferrari, I'd say he probably feels at home with Jaguar.

A team with a lot of history, usually got cars that have a good performance in their respective series, but for some reason finds it hard to grasp that WDC.

We're still working out the order ourselves but I can have a go at guessing it. We've had 4 races at 3 circuits so not a huge sample size and if you were fast at Jeddah then you've been fast for the the races so far as it was a double header (one race each on Saturday and Sunday).

Add to that that the difference in car performance is much smaller than F1, you'll find that a good driver or a driver in form can do a lot better than their teammate.

This season, Rowland in his Nissan has been the only driver fast at every race and seem to be favourites. Nato, his teammate, has not seemed as fast although there have been signs but then has had some bad strategy calls and an unfortunate penalty too.

Porsche has been consistently one of the fastest teams over the last three years and seem fast this year with two excellent drivers. Jaguar have been fast the previous two years but seem surprisingly slow this year, might just be having set up issues? Then you'll want to look up which customer teams use which manufacturers' power trains (a bit like engine providers in F1). If the manufacturer is fast, then the customer tends to be fast as the only other differences in cars are different setups.

So my opinion on the order so far? Tier 1) Nissan (only Rowland not Nato) and Porsche seem fastest with a decent gap. Tier 2) Mclaren, Andretti, DS and Maserati seem close behind and can certainly fight for the win most races. Tier 3) Mahindra has shown some pace but not sure they can compete for the win without strategy going their way. Tier 4) Jaguar got very lucky at round 1 in my opinion to win. But as I've said they are usually fast with two fast drivers so count them out at your own peril. Similar goes for Envision, their customer team. Tier 5) Kiro are using an old Porsche powertrain so should always be slower than Porsche and Andretti but have produced some good results. Tier 6) Lola are new to the championship (bought out an old team) and might take most of the season to catch up.

Would be interested to know other people's thoughts. It's definitely very subjective.

There’s also a condensed drive to survive -esque series that you can find on YouTube & Roku called Unplugged that gives some overviews of the teams and history thus far
