Question Creating Standing Greek Letters

Hey everyone. I recently saw a post about standing Greek letters, but I don't know if I got my answer. I want to get our pledges to work on giant DTD letters that are around 3-4 feet tall, and they don't necessarily have to be 3D. Is there a guide or step by step for building this online or do these guys just need to wing it?

Is the ideal wood for this just plywood 2x4? I've seen mostly ply, but I am curious if anyone has used anything else.

Did you guys just buy some coarse grit sandpaper for sanding and get to work?

Any tips on what to do for the stand?
Sorry if these are a little obvious; I just wanted to gauge what others were doing. Presh.

Not having woodworking skills? NF.

But in all seriousness though, if you’re talking about the typical Greek letters that are on lawns or are brought out to tailgates/events: yeah you’d need a jigsaw to cut the letters out of plywood sheets. Then, 2x4s can be used as like “kick stands”, they can be connected with hinges to a small 2x4 piece on the back of the letters. Should be a pretty easy build if the pledges know what they’re doing (they won’t).

Even if you can’t find exact plans online they should def be able to understand how they work/are built from Google images

Dumb question but where we buy the wood, they cant shape anything for us? I guess I will look into trying to get a jig saw to cut out those letters. Anything specific for those kick stands? I feel like it would just be making a plank so the letters can rest on. Do you have any greek letters of your own you can show an example of ?

Yeah, unfortunately you’re gonna have to cut the shapes yourself with a jigsaw. Lowe’s can only cut plywood straight, like if you needed to cut a piece of plywood in half, they can do that. I’d recommend asking brothers in your group chat to see if there’s someone whose dad has a jigsaw they could borrow. That’s what we did. It’s also just a good investment to have a jigsaw and a circular saw for your chapter for any projects yall may have

I’m a recent alumni so I don’t have the letters to take a picture of, but I’ll DM you a diagram later today that shows how y’all can construct the “kickstands” for the letters!

If you are doing delta tau delta you could probably make it look pretty good with 2x4 with 45 degree joints for the deltas
