[Help] Synthesizing two images into one

I'll try to lay this out succinctly. I'm not normally an image/graphics person, however, I really don't want to bother my coworker during their PTO so I am trying my best.

I have two images. Image A and Image B are 2d art of a character. The dimensions/proportions of the character, as well as the pose they are in, are completely identical in every way.

Where these two images differ is that the character has different identifying marks (tattoos, piercings, scars) in each image.

I would like to synthesize these two images into an Image C which contains both sets of identifying marks derived from Image A & Image B.

Is that a thing I can do?

I've consulted youtube at length for the last couple hours, but I just keep getting tutorials on how to blend different photos together into a composite image, which is not what I am after.

I would like A & B on top of each other, with both showing through.

  • Stack them as layers (you can use File > Open as layers to add the second over the first.
  • Make sure the top one has an alpha channel: Layer > Transparency > Add alpha channel
  • Use the Eraser to erase about everything but the new tatoos on the top layer. If you erase too much, you can recover by switching to anti-erase mode (depress Alt- key).
