I finished putting my board together tonight! Six months ago I never would have imagined having a board this big, but something tells me most of you understand š. Itās actually made of mostly inexpensive pieces aside from the JHS units, but I got killer deals on Reverb for those, so Iām pretty happy about that. I know the cable management will make some cringe, but itās pretty good by my standards lol.
Pitch fork > Pure Sky > Twin Twelve > Muff > Infinite (Bad Monkey in the FX loop) > Flashback > Kodiak > GL100 Looper > Polytune Mini
I donāt know what to call my musical style, but Iām sure some of you have already spotted the white stripes influences. Lately Iāve also been blending it with my relatively new interest in ambience and shoegaze.
The Twin Twelve and Pure Sky are the backbone of everything going on here and are basically always on. I LOVE how weird the Twin Twelve is; it sounds and feels so unique to me. It does the Jack White thing for SURE, but Iāve found it more versatile than that. The Pure Sky is mostly there to carve out some low end before it hits the Twin Twelve. I used an EQ pedal for this until recently when I decided to try out different drives before it instead. I think I tried 3 drives before giving a Timmy style pedal a go, and it clicked instantly for me.
Iām the only guitar, so the Muff and Pitch Fork are there for filling space and adding character respectively (and of course playing stripes tunes!), but I think I want to switch out the Muff for something else since Iāve been using it less and less. Maybe another fuzz is in my future. I play with my volume knob a lot, so I was thinking maybe I should finally try a fuzz face. Maybe an octave fuzz? Iām a little afraid to go down the fuzz rabbit hole š¤£. Let me know what your go-to fuzz is.
The TC Infinite is my newest pedal and this thing is so cool! I love playing clean over it while it sustains a chord driven by the Bad Monkey. Sometimes Iāll put the trem in the loop too so things get really wild. The Monkey could really be switched out with pretty much any drive. I just had it laying around. A buddy of mine gave it to me a lifetime ago, and I cracked up after they jumped in value lol. I may try another drive in that spot someday, but I like the results Iām getting.
I bought the Kodiak because of the square wave and tap tempo and I wasnāt disappointed. Really just a great unit.
Finally, the looper is there mostly for practice and taking down random ideas (99 save slots!?), but Iām having fun trying to figure out how to use it during live play. Oh, I have to show the tuner some love too. Being able to check the tuning of all my strings at once is super cool.
All this is plugged into my Quilter Superblock US. Not technically a pedal, but it fits on the board so I had to put it there. Iāll just say that it has thoroughly impressed me. Definitely try one out if you ever get the chance.
Anyway, Iām super happy with what Iāve got going on. Let me know what you think. Also, any other twin twelve users out there?! Seriously, I think itās a desert island pedal for me.
