What struck me is the space between words and the size of words.

When I was in 3rd or 4th grade my teacher told me that I wasn't giving a big space between words so I guess I took that personally

Makes sense it does shape the way we write ! If you're not satisfy with your handwriting it's a journey it takes time, look at other peoples handwriting if there are some forms of letters you like, try to reproduce them and incorporate it in your writing, pay attention to features and caracteristics of your own writing you like or dislike.
