Community Fridge (on a busy road-Vancouver, BC)

Man, I wish they had there in Ireland near me, I always cook too much food when I’m cooking and I love to drop portions into the neighbours, this would be even better!

It says opened or partially consumed food is not allowed unfortunately. Makes sense considering you can guarantee food safety of an individual cooking in their own home.

I’m a bit confused how they handle this, because I went to the find a fridge link someone else posted and it said on their site that they accept home cooked meals

It varies a lot by community (and possibly local laws). E.g. mine allows pre prepared meals from a professional kitchen (which a few local businesses donate), but nothing home cooked.
I tend to donate eggs, milk, and add to the pantry things like soap, female hygiene products, peanut butter, oil. (Reflecting that there’s usually some canned goods, and carb products stocked, and one or two over-stocked fruit/veg from our local supermarket). The milk lasts about 5 seconds before someone grabs it.
(My choices reflect that in my area it’s usually not homeless, but people with access to kitchens, but floating along the poverty line).

They are dressed like office professionals; don't judge someone if they look like they don't need free food, was my take on it.

That’s exactly the take. It even states on the flyer that they “look like they dont need free food”. Seems like that person is just searching for a way to turn it negative.

I miss Vancouver. Does Toronto have a similar vibe in regards to community? I presume not since its so much larger.
Honestly curious aha. I spent 6 years in Van.. Have never been to Toronto

We had a lot of these in New Orleans. People make dishes and leave them in containers. They're usually in some kind of wooden box to both keep the fridge out of the hot sun and to reduce vandalism.

I have replaced that fucking ice maker 3 times. I'm done. It can break. I'll buy ice. The thing doesn't work for more than a month anyway.

I've replaced ours 3 times now and it always starts to "pee' again after about a month or so. Never buying another Samsung appliance.

Unlikely that this will last very long before being smashed by teenagers or raided for parts by a desperate drug addict

Doesn't stop similar benevolent offerings from getting smashed to bits in downtown Toronto unfortunately

Kind-hearted idea. Unfortunately, this fridge is on death row, won’t last very long before being destroyed.

You're describing a literal crime. Not only would that land you in jail for life you're also risking some serious mob justice.
