Need help identifying your dog? Here are some important tips to help you succeed.

What to include in your post:

Post clear, well-lit, full body pictures. At minimum, include:

  • One standing side view (taken close enough to see coat texture)
  • One frontal view

Tell us your dog’s age and weight (or best guess)

Other helpful information:

YOUNG PUPPIES may be impossible to identify. Head and body shape, coat color and coat pattern, eye color, and apparent coat texture can all change dramatically as a puppy matures. You might want to wait a few months before seeking an ID.

MIXED-BREED dogs can easily have many breeds in them, not just two. Keep in mind that some of the breeds in a mutt may not show in its looks; while in other cases the dog may really look like it has some particular breed in it, when in fact it doesn’t.

NO-BREED dogs exist too! Sometimes a mutt truly is “just a mutt” — the result of many, many generations of random mating between mutts, with no discernable inbred (purebred) genes its DNA. In the same way that YOU don't necessarily have any inbreeding (purebreeding) in your recent family tree, neither must a dog. They can simply be mutts — WHICH IS A GOOD THING!

Has your dog's breed been solved?

Once you're satisfied with your responses, please change your link flair to SOLVED. (Please don't make a post if your dog's breed is already solved/known)

/r/IDmyDog needs mod(s) to combat anti-Pit Bull brigading

Recently there has been a sharp uptick in comments from trolls brigading us from anti Pit Bull subreddits.

Harassing users for owning Pit Bulls is considered uncivil and off topic behavior, and not what this subreddit is for.

The pit bull conversation is one worth having, but not at the expense of derailing the function of this subreddit.

So in the meantime we're going to do 2 things:

  1. Get some mod(s) that can help tackle the issue with harassment and off topic comments. If you are interested in helping with this, please leave a comment below explaining why you're fit for the task.

  2. Create a subreddit wiki page or megathread post that informs and discusses the Pit Bull topic in a civil and unbiased manner, so that the rest of the subreddit isn't overrun with it. If you would like to contribute to this project, please leave a comment below or a modmail.

Mom is getting an Embark kit for Mother’s Day this year, but what do yall think??! I think he’s a Boston chihuahua. He’s about 5 years old, the white is actual white, not greying from the texture at least (and what their vet says), and look how much he’s brightening up with just a little love! First photo was the day he was found, second photo was yesterday - just a week later.

Open Adopted a dog from Romania, only told she was a "shepherd mix"

Hey all!

My sweet girl Cami was adopted in February 2024, and I was only informed she was a "shepherd mix" - no specific shepherd was mentioned.

A lot of people have told me she's definitely got Border Collie in her, but I wanted to see some other ideas as well!

Some quirks I've noticed of hers (unsure if fully breed related!), is that she's very smart, can learn tricks and remember them after 5 or so attempts.

She has always had some major separation anxiety that we've been working on, but when left alone for a while she always finds something to chew/tear up.

She's very fast, and enjoys hopping while running, and she will happily run for hours without really losing her full energy

Very vocal, constant growling/barking/whining noises, and has some sass as well.

She's got a ton of curiosity, and will stare outside the window if there's anything going on, well, anywhere.

Her favorite toys are things she can chew for HOURS on end without them falling apart.

The vet told me about 2 months ago that she will not grow any more. She's pretty small in my opinion for any sort of Shepherd/Border Collie mix, but I'm definitely not an expert. She's only about 13-15kg.

Let me know what you think!

These are photos of the parents, but neither look like a yorkie to me. Maybe a yorkie mix, but not pure bred, right?

We all think a German Shepherd mix because of her coloring. Maybe with some lab or heeler. But to me, her face looks like a Shiba♡

He’s about 8 years old, very protective and loves to sniff! His tail isn’t cropped as far as we know he was born with a stubby tail.

Possibly Solved Rescued this beautiful girl a month ago. Shelter said Beagle Collie Mix

The rescue shelter had her listed as a beagle/collie mix. She loves to use her nose and is very clever (already opening doors).

She’s 21 pounds at 16 weeks and seems like she’s already on track to exceed female collie weight, which makes me think beagle is less likely — thoughts?

This boy came from an accidental litter with a campers dog, and my Dad thought he would wash from hunting and was going to give him away. I just had to take him.

We've had the mothers line since his great-grandmother as hunting dogs. So I have some idea of the breeds he has (if what they were sold as was right) but what do you guys think?

I'm excited to do an embark because I think we must have been sold something with something extra because he looks kinda Sus to me.

(He's different ages in the pics but currently 13 weeks, 10.3kgs, and still has floppy ears)

this is my dog, we recently adopted him from the humane society where they labeled him as a mixed shepherd. eyes and forehead indicate part pitbull to us, but otherwise we assume super mutt, so any ideas would be cool! he is fairly long but not broad if that makes sense. he does have a medical condition, orthostatic tremors, that is primarily present in great danes, but he does not resemble one at all lol

We found her in a container at a gas station along with 2 other pups. Homes were found for the other 2 and we decided to keep this one for ourselves. Thinking lab?, but not sure what she's mixed with. She's doing much better at the moment, lives a very pampered life now.
