Owyhee camping recommendations in April?
Hey everyone. Was looking into doing some camping out in the Owyhee’s in a couple weeks. Was hoping to do some scouting this weekend. I have only camped off Triangle rd kind of near Silver City about 90 minutes from Boise. Running into an issue that roads are closed out there despite things being pretty dry. Really am wanting to get out and get a bit of solitude. Not asking for any honeypots, but curious if someone could give me any ideas for some great Owyhee camping this time of year that isn’t incredibly far from the Boise area? I got a 4x4 with decent ground clearance, but also am not looking to tear up a bunch of terrain. Pic is where I normally go. Thanks!

No. Just go explore and find it for yourself

Why not? It's the best part about the owyhees. Not trying to be rude but I've had some fantastic weekends picking a spot and just going for it. Download Avenza and some BLM maps. Have fun!

I am heading out there this weekend to explore. Was just hoping for some recommendation so I’m not running into a bunch of closed roads out there. I have fairly limited time for exploring unfortunately.

It's spring, lots of roads will be muddy whether they are closed or not. Highly recommend you check out Steve Stuebner's book about the owyhees: https://stevestuebner.com/

For sure. I’m a firm believer in the tread lightly manner. I’ll have to check that book out. Saw a couple on their id be interested in. Thanks!

I wasn't recommending driving on muddy roads, just that you're going to run into them and likely have to turn around no matter where you go this time of year.
Stuebner also has a blog with loads of recs.

I camped at a dispersed site in Succor Creek in April many years ago and had a great time. The mornings were chilly until the sun came over the canyon wall, but after that the temps were comfortable. Lots of cool rock formations to check out, maybe some wildflowers, and no rattlesnakes yet. Also, Little Jack’s Creek and Big Jack’s Creek are nice.

Thanks! I’ll keep those locations in mind. I am expecting some chilly nights but am excited to get out!

Succor Creek is sex. Plenty of great pull outs and right after you get out of the canyon you’ve got some great open areas as well. Or, drive to Leslie Gulch, and either boat in either direction, or hike, several miles, and you’ll find some amazing spots. If you go South from Leslie Gulch about 3 miles there’s a lovely hot springs.

Get OnX off road so you know if you’re on public land or not. Helps you map out routes and find a place to camp.

Still a useful tool, I'm giving Gaia GPS a shot as well to see which one is a better tool
i still use usfs maps when I'm unsure of a location though

Gaia was good until Outdoors bought them. It’s all crap now. Paper rules.
Let’s do a trip together!

I was wondering why the user experience got worse lately with Gaia

Boise. Weather is too unpredictable that time of year and the roads are grease.
