Found this bag at the thrift store today and wanted to try patching up the small areas that had scraped off the top layer. Not perfect, but I think I blended it pretty well.

This took about 10 minutes to do with 4 different shades of brown acrylic paint. I’m giving it a few days to cure and then I’ll add a clear sealer over it.

Thank you so much! I was actually out to buy the all brown paint I used on it today for entirely different bag I’m in the middle of repairing; the other one is a lot more involved as I’m filling in and smoothing out large, flaky areas.

Anyway, I decided to stop at the thrift store on the way, which gave me this new bag to repair! It all worked out nicely, lol.

I love this! What will you use for a sealant? I've done this to my wallet, but it didnt last since I had no idea what to seal it with.

I typically use fabric paint medium. It’s clear and flexible, and normally used to mix with any acrylic paint to make it fabric-friendly. I’ve also used it to slowly fill in cracked and peeled PU leather (applying several layers).

I also just ordered “Angelus Satin 4-Coat Scratch-Resistant Leather Sealer” off Amazon to experiment with; I’ve heard it’s good to use in the same way but I’ve yet to try it. We’ll see how it goes when it arrives!

No problem, and good luck! Here’s a work in progress I’m doing on a bag that’s peeled really badly.

I’m not expecting to get it perfect, but I want to get rid of all the bald spots and prevent it from continuing to peel more; so far all I’ve used is the fabric medium, I’ve also done some wet sanding on it. Once I layer a bit more to hopefully get it smoother, I’ll mix up a matching paint to even out the color.
