Is this a black owned company?

Why u getting dv, this is a legit question.
7
u/fhgku Mar 31 '24
They said admitting you want to see black people doing better is “promoting division”
4
u/Babybabybabyq Mar 31 '24
Isn’t it division when they “mysteriously” are not doing well with a country where the majority by a long shot. People are so fucking stupid.

Most complete ready made wet rub on the market, has been consistent for over 30 years. Same recipe using locally sourced ingredients from local farmers. There are farms that have started with them and have grown with them over the years.
Seasoning jerk pork for 400? This is my go to, in a 2 lb tub of course

Walkerswood is my go-to. Maybe it's not the best, but it's good enough, and I can reliably get it at my grocery store in the US.
Put a jar of the hot on a whole pork shoulder (or two chickens worth of quarters is also excellent, if you don't do pork). Add whatever citrus fruit+ juice you've got, oranges, lemons, limes, about a cup or two worth. Throw it in a slow cooker for 6-8 hours. Then shred the meat and throw it back in the slow cooker. I usually make either a mango or pineapple salsa, and then either eat as-is, or they make excellent tacos. Either way, it goes well with rice and peas.

Way to salty

You gotta know how to use it.

5
u/icuscaredofme Mar 31 '24
Dont use a lot. Rub it into your meat with love.
5
u/ihatepower45 Mar 31 '24
Are you talking about sex or food
2
u/icuscaredofme Mar 31 '24
Food. Massage the seasoning in to the meat like you really want it to be delicious.
2
Mar 31 '24
Thoughts is Amazon gonna rape you for one small jar of jerk seasoning. My problem with walkerswood is it's over salted, meaning they don't expect you to use much of it. It's essentially made for people who don't like pepper and seasoning.

It's good to rub down and let marinate. But u still need your dry seasonings to get it proppa

When I feel lazy and don’t want to make jerk sawing from scratch I use this or the grace one as a base and add some seasoning.

This is my mom's go to for jerk, she learned how to make it from my dad's mom when they got married, it's how we remember my grandmother 💜
1
u/prospect617 Mar 31 '24
Yeah this one is good!! It works really well with the Portland's jerk seasoning (dry rub)!
1
u/GoddessIs Mar 31 '24
I think it's a kitchen stable only because it's been around for decades, not because the product is actually good. It's extremely salty and hot (pepper) for no reason. Save you're some money and make your own. Homemade jerk seasoning is as easy to make a store as green seasoning. IMO
1
u/ShireDude802 Apr 21 '24
Whenever I make my own it always comes out a little too watery. I'd like something closer thickness of the walkerswood (where I can control the saltiness and spice source), any suggestions?

One of the best jerk seasonings in a bottle unless you have your grandma special recipe.

Saw some people talking about the ingredients not listing ‘scotch bonnets’ by name anymore. Im guessing that enough Americans were thinking there was scotch whiskey in there that they just went with ‘peppers’

Black people are the overwhelming majority, yet simultaneously are overwhelmingly disadvantaged. "Out of many, one people" is great when it actually means everyone is given an equal chance.

Don’t promote division. Out of many one people.
8
u/CollegeZebra181 Mar 30 '24
I mean technically out of 92% African descent, one people. Asking if a company is black owned and operated in a nation where the distribution of wealth and a number of other social and economic metrics often places black people at the bottom of the pile is a justified question.
6
u/fhgku Mar 30 '24
Yeah I didn’t mean to offend anyone, am I seriously wrong for asking this ? (In a non offensive way just want to see more equality like you said)
1
u/fhgku Mar 30 '24
I guess I need to work on how I say things? But you typed exactly what I’m feeling / thinking (with no malice!)
5
u/CollegeZebra181 Mar 30 '24
Nah I think you’ve got nothing to apologise or explain further. I think it’s a point of tension across the Caribbean and Latin America. It’s not to say that the very real diversity of the Caribbean shouldn’t be celebrated, but I find that too often people use mottos as a way to brush over the significant black population of a lot of places and the ways in which these can continue colonial era power hierarchies.
-3
u/fhgku Mar 30 '24
So when I speak of black people doing better you see that as division. Interesting

u/Troyrizzle Mar 30 '24
Not sure why that matters, it's a jamaican owned company that supports jamaican farmers
3
u/killerzees Mar 31 '24
So off the racism conversation, this is jamacan owned but do Jamaicans use it? And what dry rub should I use?
2
u/Troyrizzle Apr 02 '24
Jamaicans use it but we tend to prefer Grace because it's more affordable as this brand is marketed more towards the international market and as for dry rub I can't really say cuz we do more wet seasoning than dry
-3
u/fhgku Mar 30 '24
You’re not sure why that matters ? In 2024 the state our people are in your not sure why that matters ?
2
u/Troyrizzle Apr 02 '24
Is poverty and hard life in jamaica exclusive to black Jamaicans?
1
u/fhgku Apr 02 '24
Where did I say that ?
2
u/Troyrizzle Apr 02 '24
Never said you did, I asked you a question
2
u/fhgku Apr 02 '24
Well you know it’s not brother, what’s with the questions you already know the answer to ? Makes me question if your sincere As one of our intelligent sistahs said
“I mean technically out of 92% African descent, one people. Asking if a company is black owned and operated in a nation where the distribution of wealth and a number of other social and economic metrics often places black people at the bottom of the pile is a justified question.”
2
u/Troyrizzle Apr 02 '24
It's not a justified question if you understand what's happening on the ground in jamaica, as you said 92% of Jamaica is black so logically majority of the people who are at the bottom being black makes sense just like there are blacks among the elites . As someone who has lived and seen their family go from abject poverty "my grandfather never went to school beyond grade 9" to being somewhat upper middle class I can't hang my hat on race because I know race isn't the problem, the problem is corruption . A better question would have been "Is this company jamaican owned"
2
u/fhgku Apr 02 '24
You don’t think we could be doing better ?
1
u/Troyrizzle Apr 03 '24
Yes Jamaicans could be doing better but to somehow make it about race is ridiculous and absolves the actual culprits , was it racism that created finsac, who made pj Patterson and his cronies steal billions of dollars? Who made Phillip paulwell steal money in the netserv scandal, who made Kern spencer steal money from the Cuban lightbulb project? All the major scandals that happened During my youth in jamaica was under black administrations so spare me the nonsense, Jamaica is in the predicament it is in not because of racism but because of corrupt politicians of all racial backgrounds

u/fhgku Apr 02 '24
So what’s the problem in me trying to galvanise my people ?
2
u/Troyrizzle Apr 03 '24
Galvanize "your people" against the real enemies, the motherfuckers who only pay them attention when they want votes and ignore them when they are struggling, Jamaica has 2 political parties that are equally corrupt and are mainly responsible for the ills jamaica is facing but you want to shift blame and complain about race while the politicians of all races are filling their pockets and selling off everything the country owns

u/fhgku Apr 02 '24
lol I’m not copping out but this is what one of our intelligent sistahs had in response to me
“Nah I think you've got nothing to apologise or explain further. I think it's a point of tension across the Caribbean and Latin America. It's not to say that the very real diversity of the Caribbean shouldn't be celebrated, but I find that too often people use mottos as a way to brush over the significant black population of a lot of places and the ways in which these can continue colonia v power hierarchies.”
2
u/Troyrizzle Apr 02 '24
I understand that point but I can't speak to the other islands, I can only speak for my island and Jamaica has more of a class problem than it has a race problem

This is good. But it’s not the only seasoning you use to make jerk chicken or jerk pork.
This will be your wet rub. You need your dry rub with natural herbs too.
