Question/Advice Needed Stray but we feed her, she’s giving birth rn. Shes been at it for 3 hours and got 4 kittens out. Her tummy feels like it’s definitely 4 more in there…she tried to get in my brothers car to give birth.

She’s been around for the last few months and we knew she was pregnant, the shelters are completely full here where I am and I have a own cat of mine that does like her too much what should I do?? I live in an apartment building and she’s at my door but I put my cat up to bring her in but she’s not comfortable so she got up and left. I completely understand that tho because when she would usually run in our house we would tell her to leave and she would but I just know the shelters will get rid of her and her babies if yk what I mean because they have been doing it. Should I keep her for 6 weeks and then give the kittens away? Need answers it’s 3am while typing this forgive me hahaha all babies look healthy but it’s definitely more in there, she stop pushing for a while tho.

AITA for finding it funny that you felt compelled to censor the kittynips?

Yes I had to read the rules and it’s a rule on there about that

Only male presenting cat nipples allowed 🤣🤣🤣

Also no, the rules mean you can’t post the genitals I can’t see anything that says no cat nipples allowed lol

They mean they don’t allow sexing of kittens by posting their genitals trust me they won’t care over cat nipples hahaha don’t worry

It’s currently 5:30 and I think she’s on her last one, it can take a while for her to push all of them out. She’s very young and I’m quite sure it’s her first time.

Not bad but what's of concern I would suggest is waiting till it's all out before taking decisions on steps to take.

You said it seems more four could be in there which is actually an insinuations, I suggest that care should be given to her so as to push through and get all delivered because in doing so, there will be no complications.

If they become much, the time interval you suggested to giving some out is actually proper to help the mother wean the rest comfortably.

My thoughts though.

She had 7 kittens but I’m scared it might be one in there still so I think I’m going to take her to a vet just to be sure

Glad to hear you're taking her to the vet

Thank you so much for looking after this baby during one of her most vulnerable moments. You are racking up the good karma with this gesture!

So mama needs to stay with her babies until 8-12 weeks old. Shelters and rescues will spay/neuter at 8 weeks (must be 2 pounds for anesthesia) and adopt out then, but it's beneficial to stay with mama longer if possible. 8 weeks is considered the bare minimum time before separation and adoption.

Can you foster them if a shelter provides vetting/medical care? The rescues around me also provide food, litter, toys if possible. That might help you find them a shelter placement where you foster them and the shelter handles the spay/neuter and adoptions. then you don't have to worry about finding them good homes, getting them medical care, etc. It would also prevent unfixed kittens being given away, which is often how this sort of problem starts.

Call around to rescues and shelters in the area and see if you can work with them.

Now that she's had the kittens, she should be able to care for them if you care for her. She needs all the kitten food she can eat, fresh water, clean litter. Please use pine or paper litter; if kittens eat clay litter, it can kill them due to clumping in their digestive track. (They're babies and put everything in their mouths!)

Thank you so much, they will be staying with me for 2 months. Along with the mama I have a space for them to be in. The shelters where I am is all full, she was someone’s pet until my neighborhood decided to change pet rules and it’s lots of stray cats living outside because they were thrown out by their owners. I’m deciding to keep them, get them them vaccinated, spay/neuter and giving them away to a loving home in 2-2 1/2 months because the shelters are charging and it’s completely full. Once the shelters are completely full, they start to throw them out or either k*** them and I don’t want that. We currently have a home for 3 of them already :)

once, those 2 months are up they will be with their new families😇every baby is healthy, I have a scale coming in the mail soon so I can get all their weights to be sure each one is being properly cared for :)mama is definitely healthy too, she’s walking jumping and eating/drinking a lot so that’s a plus😇

Ty for your compassion & care. Please Make sure she gives birth to all, sometimes there can be one left still birth or it doesn't come out. My mom's cat had a still born & saw she wasn't feeling well 2 days later & brought her to the vet just in time before she died. They operated to remove the dead kitten. We nursed her kittens until she could again.

**The mother needs a very quite place inside because they get stressed. Use thick towels for her to lay on with her new borns so you can wash them (perfume free detergent, cats dont like perfumes). & put clean ones after she's done. She'll need canned food always fresh water & litter close by so she doesn't have to go far.

Gently patting her head & taking softly to her makes her feel less stressed. She needs a quite place like a den or bedroom area or a room where its quite.
