American Politics Public control of public needs seems like a good starting point.

Public VS government. Propaganda war rages on. Meantime, when I saw the top of the page, at first I thought it said "Food E. Environment" like that was someone's name. Like Wile E. Coyote or Charles Entertainment Cheese.

Totally agree that a better solution would be to establish co-ops with a strong focus on mutual aid. That being said, the way I see it this would be creating something like a USPS for food. Something that would hopefully be more responsive to public needs and probably less likely to thwart unionization attempts.

I feel that allowing mutual aid groups to operate more freely within ther communities would be a better option. Provide them funding and protection rather than criminalization and court fees. The last thing we need is another half assed, under funded government program.

Yeah, in fairness the federal government probably doesn’t have the stamina for this, state governments wouldn’t care, and local governments are barely scrounging up the money for their school systems. I think this is a solution that could work in some places, though, like places where transporting the food is the main reason a grocer wasn’t serving the area.

I mean all the government would need to do is stop dedicating resources to people trying to distribute food by chasing them with cops, arrests, court cases, etc... there are people out there with the desire to make this happen. They just also like not being in jail.
A huge step in the right direction that the government could also do is make SNAP benefits available for ready to eat food.

Yes, this would be a godsend to so many people. I happen to be a union grocery clerk at a high end grocer and it's the only store in the area. Lots of folks can't afford to shop there.

It would likely offer a reliable option for many people, but it's not a complete failsafe as we've seen with the US government recently. Rich people would complain and try to tear it down because they could get blueberries or something.

something needs to be done and you don't always need it to be the perfect option for everything. I'll always promote the idea of diversity of tactics. If this is an option that helps people it's worth trying but it shouldn't mean we can't or don't try other things to improve the situation.
