If your first thought wasn’t “Okay, but did they have to film it?” then you’re not as cynical as you think you are.

I might be more cynical than I thought I was

Then consider this, kindness is contagious and maybe they just felt moved to share this moment to encourage others to be more open and kind as well.

True altruism may not exist, but that doesn’t erase the good that was spread from them sharing this. Maybe they just wanted clout, but they did do something wonderful for this man that clearly meant a lot to him. And now his Airbnb business is booming and he probably continues to meet good and kind people that want to have a similar experience and connect with him. Kindness tourism if you will. How beautiful is it that so many humans saw this and felt so moved, they now too want to do the same for someone else. Doing kind things for people feels wonderful.

Kindness tourism

What a timeline we live in ...

Consider this: they're clout goblins.

Consider this: If we can trick people into being considerate and doing wholesome things for each other for clout, that's a victimless crime, if there ever was one!

You know what I don’t hear this point said enough. Who cares if it’s for clout, it made that man’s day, and seeing him light up like that made mine

That was basically my point, thank you for saying it better!

You can be happy for the old man while still recognizing the fact that the women are clout goblins. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

I literally said they may just want clout. I don’t think you actually read my comment.

That was my first thought but you know what? We've been filming things for as long as it's been commercially available.

I watched some old videos with my grandparents last year. I watched my aunt's cheer competition, a walk through of a great aunt and uncle's house, birthdays, and more.

These memories would have been lost without recording them. There were videos of the most mundane things. But I never thought watching it "But did they have to record it?" We get old, and we forget. This gentleman will have people that will remember him and this moment, for the rest of their lives. We are lucky to share this experience.

There's recording something, and then there's recording something with the goal of putting it on social media because you want everyone to see you being nice to an old person.

Absolutely disgusting. Not a lot of people see through that facade, it's like people are discovering TV advertisement all over.

Yeah, I suppose you have a point. I stand by this seemed genuine, but you're right we do have to be critical of the media we consume.

It’s only fair, he’s been filming them in the shower for their entire stay.

Right, but had to make sure every moment was captured on video.

I don't have the courage to point this out often. Because you easily side with the haters. But I also have the same feeling when seeing these kind videos. A good deed is a good deed. Obviously.

But when you record every second of it, it does seem like you only do this to show other people how good of a person you are. If you would genuinely do this by heart, you most likely won't even bother to record it. It's just who you are.
