Good News Today is my final day at the shelter and final day being homeless and at the shelter 🤯
Hello,
Okay so as I hope this is an okay place to do just express this out. I also don’t really have an image to load so I just placed this nice picture me out in nature very peaceful to better days and times .. My mind is still in utter shock that I’m leaving homelessness I’ve been homeless for a few years after escaping DV household. I had to live in shelters and move around a lot during my time . I was able to finally get some housing assistance and it was not at all easy .
However my brain is still in shock and disbelief that it’s actually happening this day March 31st , 2025 is my final day being homeless .
It’s been such a long journey like unbelievable however thankful to God that I’m still alive here through it and can type that I’m moving out of this place . My heart just continues to go out to all those who are homeless and struggling I’ll never forget this experience ever and would like to once I heal and get some much needed rest and peace and quiet to breathe properly to go back and help others .
Somebody asked me if I was moving while I stood near my packed up bed and I just said no I’m just packing . . I kinda didn’t give the real answer as yes I’m moving because it is a sensitive topic and I don’t want to cause any issues if that makes sense like kinda want to just leave out in peace so I can move on . Cause it’s hard to leave behind people you’ve been around for many months and just feeling bad that they still are in need of housing . I remeber when I used to see people leave and I felt so happy for them but then I would feel sad cause I was still stuck here.
Definitely though if I can make it out of homelessness and have a proper safe very own first place then anybody can
In this shelter there is not much help and it’s so much going on . Only thing that helped me even get out of here was doing a ton of research and just praying and more but it did also mirror back to me my triggers and how I kinda act in certain situations which I know I truley need to work on and get over. ♥️🙏🏾

Congratulations!
I was homeless for about 6 months about 25 years ago. Virtually no one that knows me today would ever suspect that I was ever in that situation.
Getting my first studio apartment was such an amazing feeling.
Best of luck!

Your ability to overcome that situation and create a life where no one would suspect your past truly demonstrates your resilience and strength. It must have felt incredible to have your first apartment, finally having a space that was entirely yours after everything you've been through.

I've been there. I sold my watch for a bus ticket for a job interview. That was 20 some years ago. I got sober, got married (still happily), and raised a couple of kids. I was in a mission program for a while. I'm in sales. They love people who have struggled. We never want to go back. I'm proud of you. Go have a great life.

I got a sigh of relief.
I don't know why.
Hope you have a great future.
3
u/Poeticallymade 3d ago
Aww Yes it is a huge sigh of relief. I’m finally safe and that was my biggest concern during my time of being homeless. I never felt safe and I was always afraid that I wouldn’t make it . I never thought it would’ve been me to have my keys and own place I’m so thankful ♥️🙏🏾

I am so happy for you and extremely proud of you as well. I can understand and relate in so many ways. The fact that you kept your head up, stayed in prayer, held on to faith and hope and put in the foot work, but most of all you never gave up on yourself...... That means everything. With that being said, you know that it didn't come easy so remain grateful always, don't ever take it for granted. Last but not least, please do not let ANYBODY take advantage of you and your new space, your peaceful HOME and your peaceful state of mind. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders. Thank you for sharing your story along with your great news. I'll be keeping you in my prayers 🙏 ❤️

So very happy for you. We take for granted the comforts of knowing we have a home to go to every day and a bed to flop on at night. Would love for you to update us with a huge smile holding your keys in your new home. But either way tomorrow I hope your cheeks hurt from smiling so much!!
4
u/Poeticallymade 4d ago
It’s true and sometimes it be the small things that we don’t realize that we have that others may not have that’s why now I’m so grateful for everything even the tiniest things . I will definitely update the keys and progress!

u/Late-Jicama5012 4d ago
Im proud of you! As a former homeless person, in my experience it has been a tough journey.
My advice. Keep your apartment clean, develop good relationship with management and with apartment maintenance technicians or maintenance staff. Always be nice to them, any time you see them, say hi, ask them about their day. Build a rapport!
A rapport goes a long way!
I’m happy for you that you got your own apartment.
3
u/Poeticallymade 3d ago
Yes thank you so much for this wonderful advice!!! Management here is really nice they did a lot for me so I’m always thanking them . Yes keeping a clean apartment is so super important. ♥️🙏🏾

If your budget is tight, get an air mattress from a Walmart.
Intex brand, queen size, 24”, dura beam deluxe. I paid around $60 for it. It’s one of the best air beds/mattresses I ever slept on.
If you have any questions, ask away.

I am happy for you! I spent my young years in foster care and group homes. I fell homeless once in my adult life. I didn’t have much help. I was able to better myself, I made better decisions and it paid off and I got my own home. I don’t know all of your struggles, but you deserve a big, hell yeah! Pat yourself on the back. 😊
3
u/Poeticallymade 3d ago
That is so awesome . Better decision can turn an entire situation around . To hear that you got your own home is absolutely incredible and a wonderful testament I love this !!!

Wow, I’m so happy for you and proud of your strength! 🙌 Your journey is truly inspiring, and I’m sure your story will give others the hope they need. It’s not easy to overcome what you’ve been through, but you’ve done it, and that speaks volumes about your resilience. 💪 I’m sure you’re going to do amazing things in your new chapter, and I’m rooting for you all the way. Take the time you need to heal and find peace, and when you’re ready, I know you’ll help so many others. You've made it, and that's something to celebrate! 🎉✨

I needed some good news today. Thank you and congratulations! Enjoy it and all the best to you.
5
u/Willing_Professor129 4d ago
Congratulations! Here’s to a lifetime of secure housing. Best wishes. My bc all time rules: no one besides me ever has a key. If you pay to live here you have a key otherwise, if I’m not there, you don’t need to be ther. No guests for more than three nights without some prior arrangements and payment. It solves an amazing number of problems.

u/MuddyRooster707 4d ago
I love when people at my work complain about what we do, how we live, and so on. It gives me the opportunity to remind them that there is someone wishing that they were in their position. I remind myself every day to be greatful for the littlest things in life. And it is stories like yours that make things that much better. I am so happy for you and can't wait for you to settle into your new life. Take care of yourself and CONGRATULATIONS 🎊 👏

u/Poeticallymade 3d ago
So true yes being homeless makes you realize a lot of things . So I’m grateful for the experience cause it’s eye opening tbh . Yeah if you have a job that is an amazing thing because you can pay your bills and keep food on table it’s rough out here

Congratulations! If you need linens/bedding/towels, charity/thrift shops are good. Same for furniture, some places will sell good quality furniture for reasonable price. Not oxfam, I hear they price gouge to hell.

Congrats my dude. There aren't many things I find scarier than being homeless. The uncertainty, the fear, having to constantly fend off people who would steal from you or take advantage of you... It's very hard to break out of homelessness, and though I am just an internet stranger, I am so proud of you. I hope you enjoy today! I hope having your own space brings you peace and happiness
3
u/Poeticallymade 4d ago
Yes thank you so much ☺️ I truley do appreciate it . Being homeless is super scarier and uncomfortable.
I’ve made many posts regarding my experiences however it’s just awesome that I’m still alive and also I can help others now . Cause if I can make it and all of my mistakes then anybody can . 💪🏾 🏁🏁

I was wondering if this would be a post from a pet finally being adopted, typing away with their little paws. I’m kidding, of course. Good for you OP. Glad that things are looking up. I’m happy for you. Things can be pretty rough out there. Look after yourself.
2
u/Poeticallymade 3d ago
It kind of felt like it though 😭 cause being in a shelter I felt like an animal waiting for a house to adopt me 😂 the shelter I was at also had dogs in there so it legit felt like some kind of animal shelter tbh
