I got a sprain like that after falling on black ice. It fucked up the joint so badly that I sprained it 3 more times and then broke it. It's still fragile 7 years later.
Same, maybe the foot was unstable to begin with. But I’ve sprained my ankle twice and torn a ligament once now, every few years while doing sports. No issues with the other foot, but that one hasn’t felt right since and that was something like 5 years ago as well.
Did mine two months ago and they totally did, it was so weird! Also the way the bruising was missing where the tendon presses against the skin on the inside of my ankle really tripped me out.
From a sprain? I’m sure glad they didn’t, no. But it was insanely painful. I had to wear a brace over my swollen ankle, which then wouldn’t even fit any shoe I had, and then sit in school for 8 hours. On the contrary, I would take the torn ligament over many other injuries I’ve had lol. Aside from a little swelling and discomfort, that was pretty chill as far as injuries go.
I ate shit in Moab 10 years or so ago. Took a large amount of PT, then Brostrom surgery, then a large amount of PT, and I’m now back to normal. I do now have the ability to predict weather changes tho.
The problem is, once you've sprained it badly once, your ligaments get longer. Because of that, your foot isn't as stable as before, making it easier to sprain again. Especially on uneven surfaces.
They can operate and tighten them up but it's a long recovery... Unless someone knows something better
I got it walking down some shallow stairs in college. I had to hike all the way out to east Jesus to get to my car and then I couldn’t drive it because it was a stick and I yonked my left side. I called my mom and she asked if I was walking and chewing gum (a metaphor for being clumsy) and I realized that yes I was in fact chewing gum. I had to call my only friend that knew how to drive stick to come get me and drive me and my car home and then take me to urgent care. This was like 15 years ago and some days I still get a little wobbly.
I broke my ankle back in 2019 right after loosing insurance so never got anything done with it until about 8 months later. Spent the whole time walking on it and trying to pretend nothing was wrong. It still randomly twists out from under me and STG it sprains itself in my sleep.
It'll never be the same and tbh I'm dreading being old and arthritis really kicks in.
Have you done PT with it? I sprained my ankle 3 times in 3 months because of instability but after getting a bunch of exercises from my PT to strengthen it and doing that for a few months it feels like normal again.
