Oh man Goldeneye was amazing. My entire 5th grade afternoons were spent pretending I was Pierce Brosnan.

It's both amazing and horrible.

You go back and play it and suddenly you can't tell what something is in the distance and you remember how much it sucks to aim AND move with a single stick (don't get me started on C buttons for aim down sights)

I didn't grow up on it. It was indexed (effectively banned if you didn't order it as an import or if you lived right next to the border as we did, you could've just gotten it there, it's what everyone did pre-DRM) in Germany (maybe it still is, i don't know, they did take lots of games off the index in the last 10 years, including Doom). Besides, we were too young. I only recently started playing it. I tried it out before using an original N64 controller and that was terrible. Playing it with the Brawler64 is actually pretty fun and i feel it hasn't aged too badly.

It wasn't perfect, but when we were kids it was.

That’s why you get two controllers for two-stick gameplay. Goldeneye was above its time, man. Two stick controls and widescreen compatibility on the N64. I don’t think any other N64 games had this.

Goldeneye is a special game for multiple reasons, this being one of them.

Wait so I can use two controllers for movement and look? ... Is it in setting you turn it on or something?

Do any other games do this?

Dude same. Finding the perfect stick that resembled the Walther PPK was essential

Goldeneye was my first ever purchase from my allowance money. I was only about 10 years old but I’m pretty sure that shit cost $70 new back then. Worth every penny though!

On the snow level I figured out you could set off the alarm and hide out up by the tower and waves of the soldier would come up. Id spend wayyy too long just hanging out up there killing wave after wave of Russian soliders
