A 15 y/o named Thomas held a funeral for his Lego set when it was recently broken in his group home. One Simple Wish shared it on social media, and it was granted in 5 mins. This is such a beautiful community.

Thomas is 15 and lives in a group home in Ohio. He's a sweet, empathic kid who loves animals, especially cats. Since he lives in a group home and can't have a pet, he enjoys visiting the local shelter whenever he can to play with the animals.

Recently, Thomas was asked about his favorite possession and what brings him joy. He shared that it was his R2-D2 Lego set and expressed how much effort went into completing it, as well as the pride he felt in finishing it. Unfortunately, the Lego set was accidentally broken by another kid in the group home.

This other child was having a difficult time and became very emotional, which led to an incident where he accidentally knocked the R2-D2 Lego set off the shelf. Despite the circumstances, Thomas feels empathy for what the other young man was going through. He said he knows the incident was unintentional, but Thomas was absolutely devastated when his Lego set broke.

The situation was made even more difficult because he never managed to recover all the pieces, nor did he have the instructions to reassemble it. Thomas spent weeks trying to find the missing pieces and put it back together, to no avail. His caregivers noted how challenging this experience was for him, so they even held a small funeral for the broken Lego set to help him cope. It would be incredibly therapeutic and healing for Thomas to build another one, as this event has really stuck with him.

We posted this story to the One Simple Wish social media pages and it was granted in minutes. We wanted to share it here because Reddit is a big reason why One Simple Wish continues to grow and be able to grant so many wishes to kids and young adults impacted by foster care and crisis.

If you want to see all the other wishes waiting, please visit us at onesimplewish.org

We also have an AMA at I’m the founder of One Simple Wish, a charity to spread love & joy to kids in foster care & those who aged out. AMA : r/AMA that has lots of great info and probably answers most questions you might have about us. :-)

Helping Others Surprised by the Kindness of Strangers

Post image

I’ve started going to the gym regularly and just lost my first 20lbs. Yesterday, I decided to go shopping for some active wear as a little reward for myself after officially leaving the Obese BMI category. Up until then, I’d just been wearing whatever sweatpants and t-shirt that I could fit into.

I went to several stores and quickly found myself feeling discouraged by the abysmal selection of active wear for larger women. I’m not even considered “plus size”! It seemed like every store I went to had everything you could want in XS-M, but as soon as you cross the threshold into Large, there was almost nothing, and what they did have was hideous or made of a material that no one would wear. And don’t even get me started on finding a Sports Bra as a 40 DD.

Onto the highlight of this story. I was in TJ Maxx and I seemed to keep crossing paths with the same woman in the active wear section. She was lovely and clearly no stranger to the gym. I normally would never start up a conversation with a stranger but I was feeling so discouraged that I said something to the tune of, “I’m having no luck finding anything in my size that is even somewhat flattering. It’s hard enough working up the confidence to go to the gym when you’re bigger than a lot of people. After this shopping experience, I’m starting to feel like no one actually wants us to work out.”

I felt ridiculous as soon as I said it. I know this lady probably just wanted to shop in peace and I just word-vomited on her in a TJ Maxx. But this awesome woman immediately called over her friend who was shopping with her. They asked me what size I needed, what kind of workouts I did at the gym, and what colors/styles/materials I liked, and then they both started scouring the aisles. They managed to find a couple great pieces of clothing in my size that had been put in the wrong sections. They were both so kind and encouraging even though I was a stranger to them.

I left the experience with a new outfit, and a brighter outlook, especially when it comes to other people. It can be easy to feel like you’re alone when you’re struggling, or like others probably don’t care about problems that they can’t directly relate to, especially when it comes to physical health and fitness. Sure, there are always going to be SOME people who look at an overweight person and pass judgement without a second thought. You may feel the stares or even hear the occasional nasty comment, but don’t let those moments trick you into thinking that the world is against you.

In the fitness community in particular, people WANT to help each other. Everyone went through their own journey to get to where they are. That “scary looking” guy who could probably rip a tree out of the ground may have been morbidly obese at some point. The woman who looks like she was born to do yoga may not have been able to even been able to touch her own toes a year ago.

Anyway, I’m sorry for rambling. I just wanted to share and hopefully bring a smile to someone else. I have to include an attachment with this post, so here is my weight loss progress since November.

Hi all,

I cleaned this place up back in January. Despite what people have said, it has remained clean for 3 months now. At times I will have failures, but I will also have successes like this. This is why I never give up.

My chair became her chair. There's a heat pad under the blanket. The blanket is covered in cat hair and food after a short week. She gets dinner served to her on HER chair because its next to the heat pad I bought for me but now is hers because the winter months makes her hate wood floors.

(OC) Spotify recommended my boyfriend’s band to me directly for the very first time in the decade+ I’ve known him. And they used his cover art for the playlist.

This playlist is really really good, want a link? I think it’s expires tomorrow.
