Always in the middle of the damn day

u/j_xcal Feb 11 '25
I know, I’m in the same boat. 😣
But there are things you can do without going to protest that day: Give $5/month to ACLU, https://www.impeachtrumpagain.org, Freedom From Religion, https://5calls.org, local advocacy groups, LGBTQ or women’s shelters.
Go dark that day - no social media, no streaming shows, no internet, no buying anything.
Contact the White House, your U.S. Senator, and your U.S. Congressperson. Go to www.5calls.org. It gives you a script and looks up the information for you.
White House Comments line – (202) 456-1111 White House Switchboard – (202) 456-1414 (I’ll be honest, haven’t gotten through yet because they’re open at weird times and today weren’t in office due to inclement weather.
Also you could take the time to read How to sabotage fascism. https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/26184
Let’s stand together because we’re all we have right now.

u/Spartan_hustle Feb 11 '25
Great info. I want protests at the personal residences of these god damn republicans congressional reps

u/j_xcal Feb 11 '25
If you’re around Jackson, there’s this going on: https://action.americansforprosperity.org/Events/an-evening-w-congressman-walberg-to-protect-prosperity

I call often using the congress switchboard. I did reach Dingles office and a polite young man did answer and take my message. No luck with Slotkin or Peters. I leave Peters a message basically begging him to do something anything, as he is not running for re-election.
18
u/alexazilla92 Feb 11 '25
It’s while they’re in session at the capitol. There is a reason for it. If you can’t come that’s fine! But spread the word and maybe others can ✨ and maybe you can make it to the next one ☺️
26
u/StrikingRelief Feb 11 '25
They aren't in session on Mondays, and certainly not on a state holiday. They also do not pay much attention to the protests going on. I support these efforts, but I hope a weekend event is organized soon to allow for more participants. How big the crowd is matters most for encouraging others.
4
u/Spartan_hustle Feb 11 '25
The news networks are not covering it. Why?
→ More replies (1)1
u/StrikingRelief Feb 13 '25
I don't know whether local news covered it on TV, the papers did, but I mean the national media as a whole is more than willing to ignore things. The way they phrase things so vaguely is atrocious. That's why we need big numbers, so it becomes obvious they are deliberately ignoring it.
46
u/The80sDimension Feb 11 '25
It’s for the people who don’t work apparently
39
u/sambuhlamba Feb 11 '25
It's on President's Day.

u/MLouieGaming Feb 11 '25
How have Conservatives never heard of PTO or Holidays? LMAO
11
u/cseyferth Grand Blanc Feb 11 '25
Or the fact that people also have jobs where they work on the weekend, thus getting days off during the week.
6
u/uberares Up North. age>10yrs Feb 11 '25
Its a holiday
11
u/cseyferth Grand Blanc Feb 11 '25
No shit, really? It's also not a guaranteed day off for everyone.

I think they plan them so that the representatives will be in the building, but I still think some weekend protests should be help to try and get some bigger turnout

I love that their response everytime is "oh it's during the day, you MUST be unemployed lulz".
They always say the quiet part out loud..... This time revealing that most conservatives don't actually have "big boy jobs" and have crappy jobs which is one of the reasons they get so pissy when Liberals can take time off AND get paid for it.
2
u/sambuhlamba Feb 11 '25
Yeah I have the day off because I found a job where I'm not a wage slave and they can't stand it. Would rather be mad at us then at their boss lol.

Removed. See rule #10 in the r/Michigan subreddit rules. This is on a federal holiday

I looked it up and this event is scheduled at the capitol building events office. If anybody cares.

Which mostly means permits have been pulled, meaning unlikely to see arrests unless anyone gets violent. Wast weeks' was peaceful, and even the police I saw didn't seem remotely worried that the crowd was going to try to Jan 6 or anything.
17
u/MaMaCas Age: > 10 Years Feb 11 '25
Correct. We went last time. I was only saying that because some do care if it is on the events schedule or not. It is just nice to know.
8
u/EvilPowerMaster Feb 11 '25
Oh yeah! I didn't mean it as an argument, but just additional context.

24
u/WickedWarlock333 Feb 11 '25
Can we please do some protests on the weekend? I can’t just take a day off of work. It’s so weird
17
u/starsfellonal Feb 11 '25
I used to say the same thing, but then legislators wouldn't be working at the capital on the weekend, so the weekdays have a bigger impact. Time for me to take some PTO or organize one on the weekend.
16
u/lifeisabowlofbs Feb 11 '25
Presidents’ Day is a federal holiday, so are they even working on the 17th?

Get to organizing
4
u/WickedWarlock333 Feb 11 '25
Can you recommend me some resources for getting started? It’s something I want to try. I’m so tired of taking a back seat to these things.
7
u/ahhh_ennui Feb 11 '25
So, definitely start looking for organizations whose activism and mission mesh with yours. A really good start would be to join this Zoom meeting on Saturday, which is a coalition of organizations organizing on several fronts. They're offering action plans and ways to volunteer
5
u/allbsallthetime Feb 11 '25
I went to the website, there is no information about a protest in Lansing.
Is there information about a Michigan protest somewhere.

3
u/Ryan3740 Feb 13 '25
The local Congressman has an office just NW and across the street from the Capitol Building.
My family missed out on the last one, we are going this time!

I never understood the slogan not my president whether you like it or not he’s your president unless you denounce your citizenship why don’t you protest grocery prices like what the fuck?

I don't live in Lansing, but I'd like to make it to future protests. Is there a specific building that people gathered at last time?

6
u/Icy_Tangerine3544 Feb 12 '25
But he is your President.
1
u/IRiseWithMyRedHair Feb 12 '25
The movement is trying to move away from that phrasing to "No Tyrants, No Kings". I'd post the updated flyer here but I can't in the comments
16
u/selim_challie Feb 11 '25
To me it’s even more impactful to take the day off in protest. I’m taking the day off even though I don’t get paid for it and could use the hours and money from going in. And I understand some people quite literally can’t.
But I’m not a high income earner and I don’t have kids, and if anyone who’s fed up and wants to be seen or heard or just to show face in allegiance with those who are standing up for us, the working class, if you can afford to miss one day..spending that day in protest is a good reason to.

"Not my president" ok but he his
12
u/JMSpartan23 Feb 11 '25
Exactly. Such a stupid phrase to use.
12
u/allbsallthetime Feb 11 '25
Maybe they got the idea from all the Not My Governor signs.
That's been a stupid phrase for years.
2
u/JMSpartan23 Feb 11 '25
Nah. They brought it out from 2017. It was just as stupid then.

u/sambuhlamba Feb 11 '25
All the boot suckers in this thread should show up to the protest. I'll be the guy in the Tom & Jerry shirt. We can have a discussion.
6
u/Gullible_Toe9099 Feb 11 '25
I'll be the guy in the fursuit if you wanna have a friendly discussion.
6

Absolutely. Costumes are great for protest - it draws more media attention.

2

Explain? You know, what it is I might be sucking, and why you think that is such a 'gotcha'? If you do not explain, I'll just assume you are a weak coward.
2
u/estist Feb 12 '25
So on a holiday that was initially made for Washington's bday and was turned into a celebration of all the presidents in the history of USA, you're going to protest the current president. This says a lot! Wow...
9
u/JMSpartan23 Feb 11 '25
News flash: he’s your president.
7
u/allbsallthetime Feb 11 '25
And she's your Governor.
9
u/Belisarius9818 Feb 11 '25
Good job…you figured out the elected roles of two people lol
4
u/allbsallthetime Feb 11 '25
The points go right over a lot of heads around here.
3
u/Belisarius9818 Feb 11 '25
I get it you guys are no where near as clever as you think you are but it’s just kind of sad that instead of just…winning the election when you had ample opportunity. You guys have been reduced to parody of conservative protests which were cringe when they happened. What’s next you gonna try to kidnap a governor? I mean we’re already in the edge of election denial with you pretending that Trump isn’t in fact your president
2
u/allbsallthetime Feb 11 '25
He's the president, I get it and no one is denying that he got more votes but not a landslide or mandate or even 50%.
It's even sadder that when you're guy lost you denied it for four years.
Do you want to keep going back and forth or will you admit the right was bonkers for four years so now it's the left's turn to protest?

He was voted in by the majority...so, he is your president. Just like Biden and Obama was the president when he won. Deal with it. Next election you get another chance.

All people rise, to defend democracy and back judges blocking their coup attempt.
3
u/Nolabean19 Feb 12 '25
If you Care about democracy. How could you have supported Kamala Harris? There was no Democratic process to put her in place to run for president. That was the most undemocratic thing that could have happened in any election anytime in our country's history. You people are in a cult and lost in life. You need mental hospitals. We need to open up insane asylums again

It kinda hilarious how all the Trumper are poo pooing protests when they were protesting all over hell's half acre. I remember gangs of crazy MAGAs carrying guns all over the Capitol. Yes? And others marching around, carrying torches like were hunting for Frankenstein. Typical hypocrisy. Typical irrational Trumpers being dedicated to whatever occurs to them today. Tomorrow it will be the opposite. The philosophy of being self serving no matter what. Hey! Maybe there is a consistent position "What BS works for us today."

I wish people would stop having these protests. I don’t think it’s having any effect on anything and it’s disruptive to people who are trying to go about their lives.

How badly does Trump have to fuck things up before rebellion is full-scale?
1
u/Asinus_Sum Feb 14 '25
This administration has no values or ethos beyond contrarian cruelty and spite; acting upset only signals to them that they're doing something right. It's going to take bolder action to make them listen.

Michigan is a Red State and President Trump is the President of the United States. Two facts there!

u/mshock227 Feb 11 '25
Funny thing is, he will still be your president before, during, and after your protest. You will never thank him, but he is working to save our country. We are 34 trillion in debt and no one seems to care. They want to b*tch and moan about how it's unfair, or illegal to stop waste, fraud, and corruption when it's not. Dems are like the wealthy kids who get cut off from Mom and Dad. They don't understand that credit cards have limits. They don't realize sticking to a budget is hard. Cutting spending is painful, but necessary
1
u/khismyass Feb 27 '25
You are a complete and utter moron, a large chunk of that 34 trillion is from the 2017 tax cuts then the pandemic that followed, another large part of that is the Bush Tax cuts, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the Great Recession that followed. The other main part of it was Reagan trickle down economic, Deficit spending in the 80s the savings and loan scandals as well as bank failures of the late 80s. All these cuts are so they can redo the tax cuts again that will add triions more to the National Debt. Any cuts the lower and middle class get are more than swallowed up by the tariffs and inflation that's coming.

Can’t protest a president that was chosen by the people Ik it’s sad not to win. But the majority spoke and you just have to ride it out like people had to deal with Biden. :)))))))

u/Potential-Pain-4549 Feb 11 '25
Let's all show up early in the morning anyways for those of us that can't do the later time. All day protest
