I know some might look down upon mopeds but hey weāre all on two wheels and just as vulnerable on the road. Roughly 3 weeks ago I was going through a three way intersection and a car pulled out their driveway which for some horrible reason was placed right on the intersection on the unused fourth side. Once they were in front of me they stopped in the middle of my lane (presumably because they finally saw me and froze). With literally no where to go I slammed into the front left fender of their car and my helmet smashed their windshield. I didnāt go fully over the car and rather landed back down on my bike. I was wearing a helmet, riding gloves, and shorts and a t shirt š
. Guess I also hit hard enough that one of my shoes came flying off. Also regarding the damage on the bike Iām pretty sure my tire went into their wheel well which would explain why the headlight got destroyed but the front forks were only bent partially. Bike is definitely going to be totaled out though unfortunately.
In the accident I got a second degree burn on my leg from landing on my exhaust and I fractured my scaphoid, my capitate, and dislocated my wrist really bad. For those interested it was a perilunate dislocation. I stayed overnight at the hospital and had surgery the next day for my wrist. They put one large screw in my scaphoid bone, two small screws in my capitate, and 5 pins to secure everything. I will be in a cast for 12 weeks post op with lots of physical therapy after that for my wrist.
While breaking my wrist sucks I feel like I was lucky to walk away from this crash with only a busted wrist. I hit the car at roughly 25mph since I barely had any time to react because where the car pulled out from was obscured by a stone wall so I literally couldnāt see them until they were right in front of me. My AGV helmet absolutely saved my noggin though and if I ever get back on a bike Iāll be buying another one of their helmets.
In general what Iāve learned from this is always keep your head on a swivel and NEVER assume it canāt / wonāt happen to you.
