They'll be used as plot devices to illustrate how evil RDJ's Dr. Doom is when he kills them all early-on.

u/Dchama86 9d ago
Hope so. I really don’t want that version of Gambit
-2
u/Skeebleman 8d ago
Channing gambit was wack
3
u/entrancedlion 8d ago
Outside of him being a bit too muscular, it’s the best version of gambit we got, you know anyone better suited for the role?
3
u/Skeebleman 8d ago
Somebody not so distinctly recognizable. I cant not see him as channing tatum, and his accent was just not good coming from him
1
u/entrancedlion 8d ago
That’s fair, I hope the same for Wolverine. I really want a lesser known actor playing the MCU Wolverine and lesser known folks for the entire x men roster preferably. But I actually thought Tatum’s accent was great! To each their own.

Rdj is gonna wear the doom mask for a total of 5% of his screen time.
93
u/deja_geek 10d ago
Marvel/Disney isn’t paying the RDJ tax to hide his face. He will absolutely be unmasked and it will be a major plot point when it happens
57
u/deathhead_68 9d ago
Man I wonder if they should have announced him but not revealed he'd be doom and then everyone would be shocked whilst waiting for Iron man.
38
u/Plantar-Aspect-Sage 10d ago
He will be masked for the first part of the first act, and be unmasked as the act 1 reveal. He will then proceed to take off his mask when talking for acts 2 and 3.

Don’t wanna hate too hard on the DeadpoolxWolverine movie, I enjoyed it. But I hope Doomsday looks better than DxW from a visual standpoint. I really miss the look of Infinity War and Endgame. the one thing Eternals had going was that it looked really nice.

That look and feel of DW is very much a combo of the director Shawn Levy, and the cinematographer George Richmond, but leaning more toward Richmond. He’s been the DP on another Levy film, Free Guy, but he’s also done Argylle, both Kingsman films, the last Fantastic Beasts entry, and he’s currently working on Now You See Me 3. In short, dude has a “look” to the movies he shoots, lol.
That said, no cinematographer has been listed for Doomsday, and Richmond hasn’t shot for the Russo Bros before, so he’s unlikely to be hired to work with them on it.
In short, no need to worry. Yet.

u/Interwebzking 10d ago
The Kingsman movies aren’t so bad visually but yeah, the rest are fairly un-cinematic.
I just hope Doomsday doesn’t look like a tv movie.

u/luckyfucker13 9d ago
I actually quite enjoyed the first Kingsman movie, and the aesthetic served it just fine. But yes, it’s that hyper-polished unrealistic camera movement coupled with a lot of set extensions/replacements that give it a wholly artificial look that just doesn’t work for a lot of other films. And while Marvel films in general are heavy-handed with their use of VFX, the Russos at least are able to make their entries feel as grounded and believable as they can be.
I’m honestly not too worried about the movies themselves, though admittedly I’m far more checked out mentally about them than I was going into Infinity War/Endgame.
I think my main thought is, “we’re here already?”
It just doesn’t feel like this next round of Avengers movies are earned by the movies preceding them, like we experienced before.

u/JamesLikesIt 9d ago
Yeah like there were a few janky things in IW and Endgame but for the most part, it really had some of the best cinematography and CGI of the infinity saga. Even with it being so CGI baked, it didn’t really feel like it. Like the sets and backgrounds felt interactive and had depth (didn’t feel like they were just on a green screen stage).
1
u/NakedGoose 10d ago
It won't. They only have a year to film and post production it. Shits going to be rushed poor VFX artist

u/Mooseguncle1 10d ago
Can Tatum do a serious Gambit with a realistic head sock ?
1
u/SomethingStrangeBand 9d ago
did you SEEE Deadpool/Wolverine
9
u/headlesshuntah 9d ago
You mean the movie that made Gambit a joke with the character depth of a peanut? Sure it worked, as comedic relief.
6
u/Zincktank 9d ago
In the big fight, I felt that he used his kinetic energy powers in a badass way.
More Legolas than Gimli in my opinion in that scene.
31
u/hoplias 10d ago
RDJ doesn’t look that into making this casting announcement.
9
u/ChunkyLaFunga 9d ago
I guess probably ten million dollars plus for a few weeks work is hard to turn down even if you're already absurdly wealthy and it dilutes your iconic role. There's no way he's back for any other reason.

Maybe it’s just me, but after the 20431825023$518140417%39-20:7th marvel movie I really stopped being capable of giving a shit
19
u/nicktheman2 10d ago
The only saving grace here is that X-Men will be in it
19
10d ago
Yeah except they’re gonna get Disnified and the only thing they’ll do for the entire film is make shit ass jokes while someone else says “Awkwardddd! or “that just happened!”
Oh and then in the last 15 minutes there’ll be some bright lights coming out of someone’s hands or something
2
u/nicktheman2 10d ago
I'll take your word for it, I literally haven't watched a single Marvel movie since Dark Phoenix (that shit sucked)
23
u/Pseudoneum 10d ago
Let's just make sure to clarify MCU and the Marvel you're referring to are different entities. Or at least were at the time of filming.
Marvel is def using old X-men to get the nostalgia boost tho.
5
u/luckyfucker13 10d ago
To be fair, Dark Phoenix was the last of the Fox-owned X-Men films, and was really just burning off the last of that series. And it was always doomed, given it was the same story as X3, written and directed by the same guy who wrote X3.
It’s honestly really shocking when you think about it. Fox saw X3 tank the franchise in 2005, then said “Hey, Simon Kinberg, your script and story were a big part of why that film sucked, so how about you write and direct that same story this time around, okay? What could possibly go wrong?!”

I stopped long before that but I promise you neither of us has missed a thing. They’re all the same movie and have been for over a decade
7
u/Land_Squid_1234 10d ago
Nah, they were good up through Endgame. The MCU took a dive right after that
-6

You’re right, that movie didn’t have absolute shit writing, mediocre acting, and plotholes the size of the portals they walked through during the dumbass final battle, that was all just in my head.
18
13
u/Land_Squid_1234 10d ago
Oh, ok, so you didn't stop at Dark Phoenix then? And given that you presumably watched the prerequisite material required to actually understand Endgame, you not only didn't stop at Dark Phoenix, but you actually stayed up to date on all three MCU phases prior to Endgame? Which are comprised of 21 movies before the last entry?
Sounds like you're either lying or you're shitting on a movie you didn't watch. Either is massive loser energy

u/bubbasaurusREX 8d ago
Big time unpopular opinion but I was over all of it a couple movies before endgame. I refuse to tolerate those one-liners

I really dislike this casting and hope he doesn’t get a standalone. Gambit was cool, not this knockoff jambalaya

If Tatum is in it for more than a gag, I’m going to be disappointed. He’s not a good gambit. It was a fun laugh in Deadpool but that’s it. Based on looks and acting chops Taylor Kitsch is a much better choice. Tatum’s Gambit is also a variant that doesn’t come from the same fox-verse as the rest of the X-Cast.

Unpopular opinion nothing against Channing but he doesn’t match as gambit to me

u/golftroll 8d ago
This whole thing is so stupid. Why would you do this massive press event to spoil the whole movie. I’ve tried so hard to avoid posts like this and it’s just impossible.

I'm excited for the day they give up on marvel after it stops being profitable
This also ain't movies in the making imo

u/iiZyrux 10d ago
u sound like Squidward
-17
u/jsalfi1 10d ago
We need more squidwards. I fucking hate Marvel.
4
u/cannedrex2406 10d ago
Lemme guess, you hate superhero movies that have a big budget and aren't dark and brooding?
-13
u/jsalfi1 10d ago edited 10d ago
No i hate the brooding ones more. Believe it or not I like good writing. I admittedly like non fiction, through fiction is awesome when done in a fun, spirited way. Marvel feels so devoid of spirit for me, given how they are made it just seems manufactured when compared to other “aiming to be positive” movies like idk, an indie film or something from a director that has a cool track record.
Tell me why the movies are so great for you? Tell me why they give you so much joy? I don’t want to take away your experiences and enjoyment. I love hating Marvel, thank god there are unexamined nerds who think saying the same cheesy line deliveries with ridiculous CGI is worth spending time on. Life would be boring without disparate taste, it’s good to like good movies.
I am allowed to not like something, especially when it is shoved down my throat. In fact, it’s fun to not like something so garishly empty. So comedically lacking any substance.
Don’t get me wrong, I turn my brain off and enjoy action films/marvel movies like anyone else. Don’t pretend they are anything but money making machines for people who long forgot to put care into their writing. The dialogue is for children or adults I never want to have a conversation with. Will happily veg out to mindless action then rate it an accurate 3/10, end game was fun while stoned in an empty theatre - too bad about the movie though
People are sick of marvel and it shows - yea my first comment was inflammatory. I created it out of emotion as I am eager for the zeitgeist to shift away from capeshit as it finally seems to be 😩

So no point watching Thunderbolts really, everyone lives. Another filler movie.
10
u/yawinsomeyachewgum 10d ago
people have to die for it to be a good movie?
-3
u/mrEnigma86 10d ago
Not necessarily. But if there is no jeopardy or danger, what's the point. Thunderbolts is a filler movie.
3
u/nananananana_FARTMAN 10d ago
Well as other pointed out in other posts, ghost and taskmaster aren’t in the list. That could mean that they die in the movie. And why wouldn’t you want to watch it? It does look good. And I say this as a jaded MCU fan.

Noone cares about Marvel anymore.
They've shat out their last golden egg and the goose disappeared years ago.

u/GenghisTron17 9d ago
Deadpool and Wolverine grossed $1.3 billion.
-1
u/allaboutthewheels 9d ago
I will be Doomsday doesn't come anywhere close to that amount
2
u/GenghisTron17 9d ago
Disagree. Having RDJ and Spiderman all but guarantees it'll pass $1 billion. You underestimate their draw. Deadpool and Wolverine prove the golden goose isn't dead.
