Hello fellow short king (163cm here, but heavier at 68kg). As the others have commented above, 16oz is the standard for sparring, although 14oz is the lightest for an all rounder from sparring to bagwork in most gyms. But please note that gloves used for bagwork will have it's foam compressed over time so it's not recommended for sparring after a while due to the harder foam. But this will depend on the glove brands themselves. I myself have only one pair of 14oz for sparring and I make an effort to pull my punches for sparring, especially to the head.

as a beginner, get 14oz, you don't have the control yet to run smaller gloves, and that might piss some ppl off.
16oz is too big for u imo, 14oz would be perfect

Dont think you will get good answers here. We only talk about our thighs here. Have you tried posting this in r/MuayGlove?

First time training, get 10 oz gloves. You need to work on getting your technique down before moving on to sparring. Heavier gloves will cause you to tire out quicker. Once you start sparring, you can get a second set of 16oz for that.

With your size 12oz for gloves or light spar or 14 all round, 16oz will be too heavy for you, unless your gym is very strict I personally advise against 16oz for now with your size.

Thank you! If I could buy 2 gloves what size is the other? The size chart recommend me 10oz should I go 10oz and 14oz or 12oz should be good enough for all rounder

I have never used 10oz, I started with 12 oz as all rounder long time ago, you will have to decide that for yourself, I have trained in Dutch styled KB gyms where we all use 1 glove tbh.

You can probably get away with 14 oz gloves but why tempt fate. 16oz will always be acceptable in every situation. Later on you can get more precise gloves.
Just make sure you've got sufficient hand box size inside the glove. Try them on and make sure they're snug but not tight before you buy

Bro, you’re advocating a 54kg guy wear the same gloves as a 100kg heavyweight.

Literally everyone else is too. But thanks for picking me out.
Also I said 14 oz is fine

Really read reviews of hand box size and try to measure your hands when they are fully wrapped. If it's too small it can be incredibly painful. If it's too big you can still hurt yourself. I'm only stressing this because you're a stranger and I've never seen your hands. You may have average size hands and not have to worry about this at all. But remember, 16 oz gloves are usually designed for people bigger than you

I think if you spar…only 16oz are acceptable.
I typically wear either 16 or 14oz gloves.

Seems an earlier comment of mine is relevant:
« Squaaawk 16oz, 16oz, 16oz, I don’t care if you’re a malnourished small teenaged girl with small hands kkkkaaaawkkk 16oz »
Aka lovely birdies of this sub.
No OP, you shouldn’t wear gloves also prescribed to people damn near twice your weight (and actually 18oz are a rarity, so there will be people twice your weight wearing 16ozs).
People over 70kg should wear 16oz, people between 60-70kg 14oz, and people below 60 should wear 12oz. Roughly. At least, what’s sure, is that somebody weighing 54kg should wear 12oz, not heavier.

The gyms I have trained at recommend 16 oz for all adults for sparring - or higher for 90 kg and up. For bag work and pads lighter is generally fine. You have mentioned the reasoning which it is easier to train with 16 and go lower than train lighter and go up in weight. If you can only get one pair now, get 16 oz.
For example, I have Fairtex 16 oz for MT sparring, Fairtex bag gloves for pads, and Cleto Reyes 18 oz just for boxing.
