“Over the centuries, mankind has tried many ways of combating the forces of evil... prayer, fasting, good works and so on. Up until Doom, no one seemed to have thought about the double-barrel shotgun. Eat leaden death, demon...”
GNU Terry Pratchett.
Despite his popularity, I never understood why he wasn't more popular.
Also because you should never pass on a chance to quote him:
"A number of religions in Ankh-Morpork still practiced human sacrifice, except that they didn’t really need to practice any more because they had got so good at it. City law said that only condemned criminals should be used, but that was all right because in most of the religions refusing to volunteer for sacrifice was an offence punishable by death."
GNU Terry Pratchett. Sadly i cant quote much of him since I didn't have to chance to read his books in english yet but rather in german... And a lot of stuff gets lost in translation. But no less i love his works and its the best fantasy romans I've EVER read, so to end this with something from the only book i read in english and i was super happy when i got it for birthday a few years back: "Every day, Commander Sam Vimes of the City Watch would be home at six o'clock sharp to read to Young Sam, who was one year old. Six o'clock, no matter what... or who... or why... Because some things are important."
My favourite is:
‘Glamour. Elves are beautiful. They’ve got,’ she spat the word, ‘style. Beauty. Grace. That’s what matters. If cats looked like frogs we’d realize what nasty cruel little bastards they are.’
