Godā€™s not real

1

u/The_Corrupt_Mod 3d ago

God is at least not love, but a entity with very specific rules.

Yeah, the Hindu down the road is telling me the same thing about their gods, with the same conviction. Unless either one of you have some sort of proof that one is undeniably real, and the others undeniably false, thereā€™s no reason to take any of you seriously.

The sheer number of people totally convinced in their religionā€™s truth and every other religionā€™s falsity can be easily explained by psychology and cultural geography.

It always comes down to ā€œpray/meditate and youā€™ll find the truth if you want it,ā€ which boils down to ā€œtalk to yourself in your own head enough, and eventually youā€™ll convince yourself youā€™re speaking to God/Vishnu/Xenu/your god of choice.ā€ Knowing how the Bible was written, knowing the archaeology and history of proto-Judaism cults, thereā€™s quite literally no way I can become a Christian. I mean, we have the records of Yahweh before the Jews appropriated him, he was a storm god in the ancient northern Arabic pantheon. We can show how the Old Testament gets numerous facts, about the creation and nature of the world, as well as basic history like the Exodus, completely wrong. Thereā€™s no objective reason to trust it, and hundreds to thousands of reasons not to. Only when you abandon reason and tell yourself over and over that itā€™s actually true and real, can you come to believe it. If people behaved that way about any thing else in their life, weā€™d call it mental illness

Air/breath is very real. The Most High reigns, Christ is the Word of God. Seek understanding

1

u/MKJUPB 3d ago edited 3d ago

Iā€™ve sought plenty of understanding. The authors of the Gospels never even met Jesus, and were written decades after his purported death. Compare the stories of the birth of Jesus in Matthew and Luke. Write down the events as they happen chronologically. Youā€™ll find they tell entirely different stories, with historical inaccuracies (because they were written decades later), and the characters have different motivations for why they make their decisions. There are no contemporary sources for Jesus, only sources that sprang up many years later. The entire myth was made up. Ironically, only through abandoning understanding and critical thinking can one come to be a Christian. Read some Bart Ehrman

When I realized that people from literally any religion say the things with the same certainty as Christians, and truly believe that they are correct the same as Christians do, I began to apply the same criticisms towards Christianity that I did towards other religions. For example, Mormonism is obviously fake, right? I mean, itā€™s full of historical and archaeological fallacies. It can be proven to be false, yet they are some of the most devout believers out there. Thinking everyone else can be wrong but yourself is incredibly arrogant and selfish. I applied the same critical lens towards Christianity and it lost all credibility

Christ disciples have verified Epistles that make up nearly a 3rd of the Bible. Christ and His bloodline is documented in history. Every King mentioned in the Book is documented in history. Every prophecy that was written that has come to past is documented in history (ie Babylon, Egypt, Ethiopia {Cush}, Christ existence); I follow the Word of God(Christ) because of these things. Seek the Word my friend. This understanding only comes by the spirit of God, through obedience to the Word of God.

u/MKJUPB 3d ago

> Christ and his bloodline is documented in history.

Where? You do realize that Matthew and Luke give contradicting genealogies of Jesus?

> Every king mentioned in the book is documented in history.

Virtually every holy book, from Dianetics to the Vedas to the Quran, have references to real historical figures. In no way does that fact directly correlate or contribute to the validity of any supernatural claims the books give.

> Every prophecy that was written that has come to past is documented in history

The writers of the gospels, who wrote the books decades after the supposed death of Jesus, wrote his narrative to retroactively fit into apparent Old Testament prophecy. I mentioned how Matthew and Luke give contradicting stories of the birth of Jesus, which isn't an opinion, read it yourself. The two stories cannot both be true, it's impossible. The authors wrote two different stories, because they were intended for different audiences to *appease the prophecies that those audiences cared about.*

>Seek the word my friend

I know more about the Bible than you.

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out. A scorner seeks wisdom, and finds it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understands.

Lmao. The irony is palpable, ignorance is truly bliss

Why boast thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.

The tongue devise mischiefs; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness.

Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living.

The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him:

Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength...

Religious people are actually delusional. This shit is just sad to see

Weird how someone posting their workspace turns into an all-out attack on someoneā€™s right to religious freedom as stated in the first amendment of the constitution šŸ¤”

1

u/MKJUPB 4d ago

Damn, heā€™s right guys. We canā€™t criticize any religion anymore

2

u/_meltchya__ 5d ago

We aint the government, we can give him as much shit as we want for the archaic beliefs that continue to ruin the world

u/VMPRocks 6d ago

why would a loving god create pain and suffering?

0

u/_Not4Fame_ 3d ago

Pain and suffering is temporary, just as this life is. The Word of God is eternal.

1

u/VMPRocks 3d ago

doesn't answer my question

Thus says the Word of God,

James 3:18 the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that MAKE PEACE.

Deuteronomy 32:39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I KILL, and I MAKE ALIVE; I WOUND, and I HEAL: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.

Psalm 9:10 And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast NOT FORSAKEN THEM THAT SEEK THEE.

Psalm 107:17 Fools because of their transgression, and BECAUSE OF THEIR INIQUITIES, are afflicted.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: HE IS A SHIELD unto them that put their TRUST IN HIM.

2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect... live in peace; and the GOD OF LOVE AND PEACE shall be with youā¤ļø

Very cool room you have. Good mood and all. And I like your sign. :)

The PS5 costs more than the usb interface.

If one looks close, you can see the money went into the soundproofing, lighting (and branding?!?).

12

u/CrytycalMontreal 6d ago

Lose the cultist sign though šŸ˜‚

7

u/InhailedYeti 6d ago

That's an incredible setup! I'd love to have a studio like that to myself. Love the rug, too!

8

u/Hermannmitu 6d ago

That couch looks like a church bench that went to pimp my ride.

9

u/Amazing_Pie_4888 7d ago

Me talking to myself as I looked at the sign: If you have nothing nice to say keep your mouth shut. Just donā€™t say anything. Think it? Sure, but just keep your mouth shut.

-9

u/zackarhino 7d ago

Amen!

16

That couch looks really uncomfortable.

You really owned his generic sign.

13

u/Disco_Dreamz 7d ago

Edgy.

I despise Christianity too bro, but this just reeks of ā€œ14 year old who discovered atheism last week and needs everyone to know itā€

-28

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

You could just share passages that don't suck.

That's what you decide to share, and that's on you.

3

u/rianwithaneye 7d ago

What righteous person would ever care what the ā€œgoodā€ passages say when the bad ones are this bad šŸ¤¢

-7

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

Because nothing is perfect. Life is an exercise in selecting what we need from what we don't.

Anybody could make that same argument for any part of society police, the education system, human beings in general. It's silly. It never ends.

Nobody is righteous everybody's just looking for information or in some cases just a fight.

To compare reading an old book that was sitting on a table somewhere to actually going out and hurting people is completely stupid.

The Bible has all sorts of interesting, useful and frightful things inside of it but it's just a book.

Literally nothing can be perfect. So, all the people like you who won't put any skin in the game and do something with the world until someone else convinces you your actions would be perfect from the beginning are just sad consumers waiting for their next fix.

Every story humans tell is used "to preach, proselytize, and manipulate." The Bible isn't special, it's just old.

Nobody said the Bible is some all holy source of wisdom, just that there's some amount of useful wisdom in there. I don't know why that fact gets people's feathers up so badly.

Do you really think people are made of good instincts and bad ones? What about training? People need strong communities and involved people, and with people comes bad shit. It's not a religion thing, there are people who are awful no matter what endeavor we're talking about. Teachers molest way more kids than priests but we're not talking seriously about ending education.

You're making the shallow argument that religion somehow makes people worse than other power structures, and it doesn't.

What would you have replaced the church with throughout history? With nothing?

People need stories, and most people aren't interested in taking a literature degree to hear them. There's a reason pop art both sucks and is popular and the same goes for our oldest stories.

"major religions impart a righteousness"

Fam, none of them are more righteous than you are. Religion isn't special, people act the same way wherever you put them.

There's nothing more silly than saying the past should've been better. Nothing works that way and we did the things we did. We would probably have done them again given the chance. What matters is each individual in their life rising up to be the best they decide to be. For some people that means taking easy stories and some people need to pick everything apart. Neither path inherently produces a better person.

Religion just ends up a scapegoat for people who don't like that community but haven't formed a replacement on their own. Well adjusted happy people don't waste time on the frivolities of old holy books or new social ideas.

Lots of people don't like to think, and you can't make them. It's not fair to say to those people "religion isn't good enough for you, you need to work until you have something better."

Are they wrong? No, they're just people. The modern idea that religion and science are separate or that any human affairs are essentially separate is just gobbledygook marketers sold you so you'd buy more soap. Religion, science, math, progress, horror, and people are literally all the same quantity. We need stories and we did in fact invent these ones.

12

u/DanqueLeChay 7d ago

I could cherry pick random nazi shit that sounds ā€œniceā€ too if i wanted. I donā€™t want to

-11

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

Messed up bible quotes aren't any more representative of the whole of the book than any other cherry picked passage.

It's just a book. If you have a problem with a book, or a with people who put posters on their walls proclaiming the universe's love for us well that shit's on you man.

10

u/DanqueLeChay 7d ago

Ahh, the old no-true-Scotman-fallacy. Of course

-7

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

No, it's just plain as day that if you have a problem with that poster or with people finding nice things in the bible then you're obviously an asshat.

4

u/DanqueLeChay 7d ago

Did i have a problem with the poster?

1

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

I don't know what specifically you have a problem with.

Just that you seem to have one and billions of other people seem to be able to navigate the same information without one.

4

u/DanqueLeChay 7d ago

What you call ā€œnavigating informationā€ i call ā€œcherry pickingā€ and I perceive it as hypocritical.

2

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

The average American grocery store carries 15-60 thousand different products, but the vegetables only take up half of one aisle.

You need to navigate the same situation everywhere you go and choose things that are good for you. Call it whatever you want.

u/WeirdURL 7d ago

Whatā€™s the matter, do you not enjoy the bible?

-5

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

Those are quotes. It's just as easy to share good ones. Nothing's perfect.

There are so many unoriginal children complaining about religion. Too bad none of them seem to understand that anything they think they can figure out when they're nine is probably even more flawed than what they're trying to outsmart.

5

u/rianwithaneye 7d ago

I love that I was able to make you defensive just by quoting your book. Why that doesnā€™t make you skeptical of said book is genuinely beyond me.

1

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

What's defensive? Attacking organized religion is like first semester at college level deep.

It's shallow and boring. I'm not even religious, I just hate bad arguments.

5

u/WeirdURL 7d ago

Holy run on sentence batman. There are so many valid reasons to be critical of organized religion.

-2

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

There are reasons to be critical of anything, and looking for them is the definition of a crappy outlook.

7

u/WeirdURL 7d ago

Haha whatever. Most christians are hypocrites. Yā€™all preach this and that but then vote in a fascist demagogue who wonā€™t even put his hand on the bible to be sworn in to office. Love thy neighbor? Nah, letā€™s ship em to a country theyā€™re not even from.

-1

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

Where did the poster touch you?

And you have a massive ego to believe you're qualified to judge 30% of the planet all at once.

What even makes you think most Christians are American? They're not.

6

u/WeirdURL 7d ago

Pretty interesting you would joke about sexual molestation by a priest while defending religion so hard. I would reflect on why you said that.

-1

u/premeditated_mimes 7d ago

To me that's a south park meme. You need to chill on whatever has you so on edge.
