Who is considered a Kafir?

I have a lot of confusion about this. So it was my understanding that if a person has never come across islam(eg: isolated communities such as the Amazonians) then that would exclude him from being labelled a kafir and Allah will test him on the day of judgement. Same thing for those who were given false picture of islam(Western Media, etc.) and those who tried their best to explore but for someone couldn't fully understand/comprehend/grasp islam. Could someone with knowledge please shed some light into this?

They are kafirs, but they will be tested Kafir is a non-muslim no matter if he deserves hell or not, but not all kafirs are the same (what I previously said is only about isolated communities) False image is not an excuse, he could have searched, mushriks in mekka always gave bad images about islam for everyone they saw and it wasn’t an excuse for them

Here, it will save you many headaches if you take this hadith.

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رضي الله عنه عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال:«وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَا يَسْمَعُ بِي أَحَدٌ مِنْ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ يَهُودِيٌّ وَلَا نَصْرَانِيٌّ، ثُمَّ يَمُوتُ وَلَمْ يُؤْمِنْ بِالَّذِي أُرْسِلْتُ بِهِ إِلَّا كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّارِ».

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said:"By the One in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, there is nobody of this Ummah (community), whether they be Jewish or Christian, who hears of me and then dies without believing in what I was sent with except that he will be among the people of Hellfire."

Anyone who dies as a known disbeliever is called kafir, as for whether they will go to hell or heaven that depends on allah

the people who have never even heard of islam like those amazonian communities ( and allah knows best if they have ), or people who have recieved a distorted version of it, are technically in a state of kufr out of ignorance, but they arent labeled as kafirs in the sense of people who have actively heard and disbelieved in the message, until the proof is established for them and they reject it; since it has not reached, you should withhold from takfir. If they die on this state of kufr in ignorance, Allah will test them later.
