Why has the 48 had so many loose wheels this season so far?

1

u/dneville80 Feb 28 '25

I have a question. I’m a newer fan, got into nascar when it came back from the pandemic. Tossed some numbers in a hat and drew out Chase Elliott, lucky me. But he has been driving for a while and while I’ll still root for him I’m also looking for a younger driver, preferably one without any wins or maybe like 1 win, who you would think is a lot like Chase Elliott. Racing style, demeanor and all.

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Mar 01 '25

One that pops to mind is Ty Gibbs, both are really quiet drivers yet are aggressive out on track.

1

u/dneville80 Mar 02 '25

What’s your take on Eckes? I’ve kind of loosely followed him since he drove for KBM.

Another point to your Gibbs comment; it’s funny because before 2020 I followed NASCAR casually and would often root for Tony Stewart & Kyle Busch(18 was my hockey number & who doesn’t love M&Ms). Another JGR driver was bound to catch my rooting interest. Bell already had anyways(Stewart’s old car & my wife’s favorite number is 20)

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Mar 02 '25

Yeah you could throw him in there as well, although he is not a active Cup driver so wasn't considering him.

1

u/dneville80 Mar 01 '25

Not a bad pick. I followed him his last season in ARCA and Xfinity Series. I feel like he is either gonna be legit or burn out very fast, but I could see myself rooting for him.

Can anyone share their experience on going to a CARS Tour race? Was thinking of going to the one at Ace Speedway this year.

What is the vibe like? Will the grandstands be full? Do they sell pit passes?

1

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert Feb 28 '25

I don't necessarily think this warrants it's own thread but if someone wants to answer/discuss, feel free. Three part question:

A: Has there ever been another true "prospect" (not an established veteran in another series) who was even in the conversation of threats to win their debut race? Whether or not you think CZ actually can.

B: Is Zilisch the best prospect ever?

C: Is he the most hyped?

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Mar 01 '25

A: Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch were about the same. Having decent success in lower series before joining Cup and were a contender instantly.

B. No We've had a few but he is probably the first in over a decade.

C. I don't think so, Joey Logano probably took that mantle. It took him years to finally live the "sliced bread" name down, even still there are some that think he is overrated for how hyped he was getting into Cup.

Can anyone name a website for watching NASCAR for free online in mobile

6

u/nascarworker Feb 27 '25

Looks like we’re going to get a Wendell Scott pace car at cota.

0

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 27 '25

Why?

1

u/nascarworker Feb 27 '25

To celebrate him being the first black to win.

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 27 '25

He won his first race at COTA?

3

u/Hawkfan15 Feb 27 '25

Going to cota for the first time this weekend. I've read all the FAQ on the site, but for people who have been, how much success did you have bringing in water/food/alcohol from outside? I've heard that they're relatively lax but that was mostly from F1 people.

3

u/sudo_journalist Johnson Feb 27 '25

Very successful lol. I always bring my camera bag inside my "cooler lined" backpack. Last year I even brought in my glass coke bottles and hard cider underneath my inside bag. Although that's easier since you only had to go through securityonce. With the construction going on now if you want to go from the Main Plaza to the front stretch or T1 I think you have to be re-screened.

1

u/Hawkfan15 Feb 27 '25

Hell yeah. Thank you!

2

u/bomber991 Kyle Busch Feb 27 '25

I'll be going as well. Last race I went to they had banned the aerosol spray sun-screen. Bring ear plugs or some kind of hearing protection.

I think they're mainly looking for guns and knives, but it is a pretty thorough security screening you have to go through.

u/HOSSTHEBOSS25 Feb 27 '25

Do we have to pay for the autograph sessions at the merch trailers ? What is proper etiquette for interactions ?

2

u/ChevyFan5892448 Feb 28 '25

It depends on the driver/trailer. Some drivers will be free, some will require purchase of certain items (hat/shirt/diecast/etc), and some will require a certain money amount to be spent (the Hendrick drivers are usually around $100 to get a wristband).

The E2 Apparel page on Twitter usually posts the signings and if there is a requirement.

2

u/HOSSTHEBOSS25 Feb 28 '25

Looks like trackhouse isn’t affiliated with them

1

u/ChevyFan5892448 Feb 28 '25

Interesting, I think some Chevy teams were/are under Crusin Sports (they have a chrome/red/blue logo). From experience they don’t usually have a prerequisite for autographs but that may be different for the Trackhouse haulers.

1

u/Bobo3472 Ryan Blaney Feb 26 '25

Has anyone used electronic earmuffs at the tracks? When I take my family to short tracks and ARCA races, we use either Howard Leight or Walker Razor earmuffs. I was thinking of buying the "walkie-talkie" attachment for them so we could chat without shouting, but I'm wondering if it would even work. They work fine as is when the cars are on the far side of the track, but I figured the attachment would help a bit. Has anyone else used these? With the walkie talkie attachment?

2

u/Ghost_Gawd55 Feb 26 '25

Won 2 tix to Pennzoil400, it’s my first Nascar race, and had a couple Qs. Attire, time to arrive, who to root for, etc.? Any and all info/tips is appreciated even if it’s not a question I asked

1

u/nascargirl11 Hamlin Feb 26 '25

welcome to nascar! honestly there is a lot to know about the actual sport and race lol, but basic info is that there’s 3 stages, they “stop” racing after each stage, go to pit, start again, and then whoever is leading at the end of the final stage is the winner. i think watching the race is simple enough because you have the scoring pylon to look at and see what lap it is, what stage, who is winning, etc etc.

now as someone who has been to las vegas motor speedway, i’d recommend wearing a shirt/tank and shorts. obviously it’s whatever you’re comfortable with, but odds are it will be sunny, and even if it’s not “hot,” you can still get burned so make sure to either cover up or put sunscreen on. wearing a hat is a plus too because it blocks the sun from your eyes.

who to root for usually comes from if you have a favorite number, you like a certain sponsor, you like a certain car, etc etc. i personally recommend choosing denny hamlin, he’s in the 11 car, and he’s kind of the “villain” of the sport but he’s a really great driver. he also runs a race team with michael jordan, and the cars on that team are the 23, 35, and 45. so imo, you can’t go wrong with any of those options.

as for showing up to the track, i arrived at LVMS around 8 AM when the race started at 11:30 AM. that gave me enough time to check out some driver appearances, look at the merch trailers, maybe get some food, things like that. you can get a garage pass to go in the infield and be up close to pit road and have chances to meet some drivers, so that’s a really cool thing if you want to do that. prices on that depend on if you buy a weekend one or sunday only. i did the weekend pass so i could watch practice and qualifying on saturday in the infield. this might sound a little overwhelming, but i promise it’s a great time! i’ll link the pass below.

i think i covered all your questions, but if you have more, ask away! here’s a link to the fan faq on lvms’ website if you’re wondering about bag policy and things like that: https://www.lvms.com/fans/faq/ . and here’s the link for upgrades like the garage pass: https://www.lvms.com/events/pennzoil-400/upgrades/ . i hope you guys have a great time!!

u/HOSSTHEBOSS25 Feb 26 '25

Headed to COTA this weekend for my first ever race weekend. Looking at renting a headset maybe ? But I want to know your best suggestions for anyone going to their first nascar race weekend??

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 26 '25

If you are looking to rent a scanner just a heads up that they do online orders only, and they must get in by I think tomorrow or Friday.

2

u/HOSSTHEBOSS25 Feb 26 '25

Wow ! Perfect. Thanks !

Would you recommend this ?

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 26 '25

I would, on the road courses you don't really need hearing protection that much but they are helpful for listening to the driver scanners and MRN broadcast. But can also do this by using the NASCAR app and your own headphones/ear buds.

1

u/HOSSTHEBOSS25 Feb 26 '25

Thanks!! I was wondering about hearing protection

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 26 '25

I can't speak for COTA specifically though just other road courses I've been to the noise was borderline not being overly loud. But depends also on where you are, I'm sure it will be louder in the frontstretch grandstands vs say on the hill in turn 1.

1

u/HOSSTHEBOSS25 Feb 26 '25

Also being there all weekend , I couldn’t tell if my rental was only 1 day or for all three 🤔

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 26 '25

The Racing Electronics rentals are for the whole weekend, I'm not sure how soon they get there but you just show them your online order and pick it up and you're good to go.

1

u/nocluewhatIdoin Feb 25 '25

Does anyone know if the JRM guys are signing at COTA this Saturday? Usually they sign every time before an xfinity race, but none of the driver appearances lists show them.

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 26 '25

Check the track website or app closer to the weekend, especially for the Xfinity drivers they don't give much headsup for appearances.

2

u/flashyfast3 Feb 25 '25

[Slightly OT]

Has anyone redeemed their NASCAR fan rewards points for race tickets? If so, how long before the race did you receive them? I redeemed tickets last year for Spring Vegas this season but still haven’t received them.

2

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert Feb 25 '25

For COTA this year I got Cup on the 13th and Xfinity on the 19th, so I’d say a week or two.

1

u/flashyfast3 Feb 25 '25

Thank you!

1

u/dillthethriill Feb 25 '25

Hi y’all, I know there are diecast flea markets in Daytona and Charlotte during the race weekends does anyone know if Las Vegas and/or Kansas has the same thing?

1

u/SonofJersey Bubba Wallace Feb 25 '25

Any Recommendations on where to sit at COTA, especially with the shorter course?

1

u/badabadoem van Gisbergen Feb 25 '25

Hey guys i will be camping at north wilkesboro this may for the all star race, can i check in after 6PM on friday?

1

u/badabadoem van Gisbergen Feb 26 '25

Called the track and you can check in from 9 am till 9 pm

3

u/EconomicsRelevant993 Berry Feb 23 '25

What are the flaps that pop up on the hoods of cars? On the roof too?

6

u/ChevyFan5892448 Feb 23 '25

They help change the air flow & pressure around the car to reduce the chance of a flip while spinning. There’s also one on the bottom of the car to seal off air flow from the diffuser while the car is sliding backwards.

The hood flaps will occasionally pop up while in an intense draft because of the change in air pressure .

5

u/EconomicsRelevant993 Berry Feb 23 '25

Helpful, thanks!!

2

u/Cunningham_Media1 Ryan Blaney Feb 23 '25

I believe its to stop the cars when they spin out of control

1

u/agent_1214 Feb 23 '25

is there any other way to access Xfinity races legally? CW is a US only service and I can't find any VPN service that can access it

1

u/brebs21 Feb 24 '25

If you don’t care about watching live NASCAR posts all races to their YouTube channel usually the Tuesday after the race

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 23 '25

Full-race Replays? The replays are only on the CW app and website.

1

u/Cunningham_Media1 Ryan Blaney Feb 23 '25

I cannot private link bc I don’t wanna get banned but pm me and I will.

4

u/Brilliant_Chatterbox Feb 23 '25

Hi, french guy here !

I watched my 1st race this monday and I have several questions !

Why change sometimes 2 tires and other 4 ? What the hell is stage ? Who's drivers is a great guy and who's the opposite ?

2

u/HarryNurpplez Feb 24 '25

Because with oval racing left side tires don't ware as fast as the rights. It all depends on when the cautions fall and pit strategy.

Stages are to reward points during the race for the front runners. It replaced the old system with 1 point for leading a lap and 5 for leading the most. Also to give the networks more commercials. lol

As for what driver to follow. Just watch. Let them come to you naturally.

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 23 '25

Changing 2 tires is almost always faster than 4, so if you are fine keeping the leftside tires on the car it is a good way to pick up spots in the pits.

1

u/joseg4602 Feb 23 '25

I'm going to Martinsville weekend for the 1st time. My question is if there are fan tents outside the track that sell merch like shirts, flags and diecast and if there's any off track parking that I can pay for like at Darlington where it's just more convenient to park. Thanks in advance.

1

u/BaconFootball Bowman Feb 23 '25

There's definitely off track parking, but the martinsville parking lot is massive and if  you get there early you will have no problem leaving

1

u/Electronic_Exit6428 Feb 23 '25

Tent camping Dover in July - how bad of an idea is that with the heat?

1

u/ksul Park Feb 23 '25

I am giving away two tickets to the race today. It looks like I was given an extra pair from my NASCAR Fan Rewards purchase.

Section 141 Row 17 Seats 3 and 4.

Please comment if you want them and then we can DM details to transfer.

1

u/nwpa97 Logano Feb 23 '25

Any advice on where to park at Atlanta for the cup race today?! First time going to this track!

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 23 '25

Do you have any parking passes? If not, just get as close as you can but I'm not sure if you just selfpark like other tracks do or they have flaggers. The way I always do it is park as far away from the track as possible, and near the main road that way you don't spend 30-60 minutes sitting in traffic just trying to leave the lot.

1

u/Bored_Dad_Scrolling Feb 23 '25

Got free tickets to the practice in Austin on Friday. Was gonna take my 2 year old son for an hour or 2 since he likes cars. Anything cool to see during the practice, or is it even worth checking out?

2

u/brebs21 Feb 24 '25

They should have the merch haulers out and the fanzone should have stuff for you to do. Ford and Chevy usually bring cars to display

1

u/BriGuy0924 Feb 22 '25

What package is the Cup Series bringing tomorrow? Is there a way to look this up ahead of time? I just tried a quick google search and didn’t get far, closest I got was a thread here from 2 years ago

2

u/ChevyFan5892448 Feb 22 '25

I can’t find the statistics for each package, but the Cup Series will run:

Superspeedway package (roughly 550 HP, taller spoiler) at Atlanta, Daytona, and Talladega.

Intermediate Package (roughly 670 HP, small spoiler) at Las Vegas, Homestead, Darlington, Bristol, Texas, Kansas, Charlotte (Oval), Nashville, Michigan, Pocono, Dover, Indy, & Gateway

Short Track/Road Course Package (roughly 670 HP, smaller spoiler and modified diffuser) at COTA, Phoenix, Martinsville, North Wilkesboro, Mexico City, Chicago, Sonoma, Watkins Glen, Richmond, New Hampshire, & Charlotte Roval.

1

u/BriGuy0924 Feb 22 '25

Wow, much better answer than I was expecting. Thank you! I wish Cup series went back to the intermediate package at Atlanta I always thought that was the best racing there

0

u/HarryNurpplez Feb 23 '25

Well you'd have to somehow convince them that doing so would create better ratings.

3

u/EconomicsRelevant993 Berry Feb 22 '25

Why is Blaney ahead of Byron if he only won one stage compared for Byron’s race win?

5

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert Feb 22 '25

Blaney got 3 points in his duel, 8 points in stage 1, 10 points in stage 2, and 30 for his finish.

Byron got 9 points in his duel, 1 point in stage 1, none in stage 2, and 40 for his finish.

1

u/ToxicMotive Feb 22 '25

Hey nascar peeps I’m thinking about going to my first race in March at Homestead Miami Speedway i live in Ft. Lauderdale i was wondering if i could get some tips from people who have been, like what time i should get down there, whats the best place to park, wheres the best spots to sit, etc… any advice is appreciated

u/15SecondBreak Feb 22 '25

Pennzoil 400 or Kubota High Limit ? Bit of background: I have been attending both vegas races each year with my son. This year, he can't get us in, I will be going on a very limited budget.

I have tickets courtesy of fan rewards for trucks and xfinity. A cup ticket will cost me just under 10% of my monthly income. I have never had grandstand seats at this track.

Now, i'm debating spending the money to attend both Kubota high limit events instead of the cup race. I have never been to a KHL race, not the biggest winged car fan, but that is possibly just from lack of exposure. But I I can't imagine missing a Vegas race just because I don't get to do what I am used to.

Any recommendations for choosing high limit over cup? Suggestions for best cheap seats if I choose cup? Any experience with mobility scooter rentals or use at the track? I am not sure if i will be going alone or if my son will take any time off work to join me if that matters. I will be recovering from a minor surgery, and can't be on my feet all day.

I will be in town Thursday-Monday, so whatever I choose, it won't affect any travel plans.

Any help/ guidance /opinions appreciated.

u/rileyripa Byron Feb 22 '25

Hey everyone-this will by my first race weekend at Atlanta and I’m just curious on where the third party vendors selling old merch are usually located at? I’ve been to almost every track in the southeast but am not familiar here at AMS and don’t want to waste much time on Sunday driving around looking for their tents before parking. Thanks for the help!

1

u/GSap3159 Feb 22 '25

What is the best section to sit in at homestead miami?

1

u/nocluewhatIdoin Feb 21 '25

Going to COTA next week. What should I bring to get autographed? Usually I get a hat or shirt of the track to have signed by everyone

1

u/EWall100 Feb 22 '25

A diecast if you have it and piece of merch. They typically cap it to two items

2

u/smartguy96 Chastain Feb 21 '25

Is there a complete weekend schedule for Phoenix somewhere? I'm planning to drive in from Vegas on Saturday morning and want to know how early I should try to arrive.

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 21 '25

Yep on their website: https://www.phoenixraceway.com/fanguide/

Also is one on the tracks app.

2

u/smartguy96 Chastain Feb 21 '25

I don't know why I was having so much trouble finding that page. Thanks!

I need to pick a driver to follow. I used to be a big Tony Stewart fan back in the day, but I haven't really followed NASCAR at all in 15 years or so. I watched Daytona last week and realized I have no connection to any of these guys. I'd prefer someone who is earlier in their career, someone who is expected to be competitive and has a serious shot at winning races and championships, but not absolutely dominant. I'd prefer someone who is aggressive on the track but not an asshole about it, has some entertaining personality in interviews, and has a main sponsor whose brand identity I won't be embarrassed to rep in public. Bonus points if Siemens is a minority sponsor. Any suggestions?

0

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert Feb 22 '25

Carson Hocevar. 2nd year full time in Cup, has some of the most raw talent I’ve ever seen and impresses in not-top tier equipment. Extremely quick learner, had one of the worst teams running in the top 5 at one point in just his 4th ever Cup race as a sub driver. 6 top 10s and 1 top 5 last year in his rookie year and should improve that this year with the possibility he goes to a powerhouse team like Hendrick or Gibbs down the line in a few years. He’s a very aggressive driver, maybe even a little too aggressive, but he’s still young and should reign it in as he matures. I wouldn’t say he’s an asshole, if anything he’s hard on himself when he messes up. He’s very entertaining and funny, one of the only drivers with a personality they let shine. Here’s some footage of him messing around during a rain delay. His main sponsors are pretty mundane, usually a car dealership (Zeigler) or insurance (Delaware Life)

3

u/EWall100 Feb 22 '25

If you wanna pull for the big Tony guy, pull for Briscoe. He really loves and respects Tony

3

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 21 '25

That is a lot of demands but I'd say probably Carson Hocevar, still a new driver but shows promise and is pretty entertaining offtrack.

Hi everyone, me and my family are traveling the US from the Netherlands for our holiday and they were able to move around some of our travel plans so I can attend my first ever Nascar race! I’m really excited. My brother will be joining me and we have seats close to the start/finish line and we have pre-race track tickets. I’ve been to a few F1 races, but all in Europe and don’t know what to expect. Any advice or tips? Would love to hear from you all 😌

Edit: going to Nashville, not this week.

2

u/badabadoem van Gisbergen Feb 25 '25

Fellow dutchie here, bring hearing protection especially if you're sitting in a lower row, the loudest cars during a european f1 weekend will be the porshe supercup cars which are loud but nascars are much louder. If you want to listen to team radio live you can rent a scanner and headphones at the track from RE. If you want to drink some beer you can save money by bringing a soft cooler (hard ones are not allowed inside) with cheap beer and a bag of ice. Finally if you are going to memphis i recommend visiting the bass pro shop pyramid. Im also going to the race in Nashville so maybe i will see you there.

2

u/Beautiful_Subject_15 Mar 02 '25

3

u/EWall100 Feb 22 '25

Been to Nashville, it's a good setup. Keep in mind the track is roughly 45 min east of downtown and there's no public transport. Be prepared to Uber, Taxi, or rent a car. If your family is doing this specifically for the race look for lodging in Lebanon, TN (10 min north) or Murfreesboro, TN (15 min south). Both a fairly large suburbs with plenty to do.

There's a decent sized fan area with all the merch haulers and activations just to the right of the main gates, explore that for a couple of hours.

Otherwise, given it's proximity to a relatively large metro, there's a lot of first timers just feeling out the sport so you won't feel alone in that regard.

Lastly, be prepared for heat. The race moved up a month from June this year, and May in Tennessee isn't the hottest but I've been to Europe and experienced May there. Expect at least a 10°C difference higher than what you're used to. Hat, glasses, Sun screen, water bottles are a must.

2

u/Beautiful_Subject_15 Feb 23 '25

We are staying overnight in Memphis so when the race is done we still have a ways to go but my brother will drive from Nashville to Memphis and fully stay sober. My dad and mom will go into Nashville and enjoy it so they drop us off near the speedway, me and my brother will go in when we are nearly done we give em a call with the deadline around midnight to 1am as schedule is a bit tight.

Good to hear we aren’t gonna be the only ones! I understood it is a evening race this year. Do we expect 30 celcius aka around 85 to 90 fahrenheit or more?

Thanks for the response, you rock 🤘😎

2

u/EWall100 Feb 23 '25

I would expect 25-30C/75-85F prior to sunset. If it is a night race, the temps will be fine, just hydrate while you pregame.

Sounds like you're going to have a full day of TN so I hope you my home and in my opinion, the better of the two Cup tracks in our state.

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 21 '25

For Atlanta this week I'm guessing? Hopefully they aren't too low, up high is usually better since you can see the whole track. Don't be afraid to get to the track early, there is usually plenty to see before the races and the track website usually has a schedule of driver appearances as well if you are interested.

1

u/Beautiful_Subject_15 Feb 21 '25

No sorry going to Nashville. Yes I’m quite low row 4.. but I will definitely try to go early, we have to travel from Atlanta that morning. Thank you so much!

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 21 '25

Ah ok, yeah it just depends on what you want to see. Cars flying by and a better view of pit stops, but most of the time you will at that level you will be watching the race through the catchfence which can be annoying. I use this website to get a idea of what each row or section can see, pretty helpful when picking out tickets. https://aviewfrommyseat.com/venue/Nashville+Superspeedway/sections/

1

u/Beautiful_Subject_15 Feb 23 '25

Thank you for the information! Yes it is always a bit hard to say as we wanted to be close to the action. We are having a look to maybe move a little back. Gonna be using the website as a bit of guidance. If you have any more tips or guidance please let me know, but thanks a lot for this, really appreciate it!

1

u/Fbeezy Feb 21 '25

I have pit passes for Atlanta this weekend. I’m with one of the car sponsors, is there anything I should prepare for? I’m not sure how it works or how the bathroom or food or anything works down there.

1

u/HarryNurpplez Feb 22 '25

Well that means you'll probably be on the pit box itself. Otherwise you'll be well behind or off to the side if possible. Either way have eyes on the back of your head. You'll probably be in someones way at some point that's just how it is around the pit boxes. As for concessions and restrooms I don't know specifically where they are for Atlanta but those wont be too hard to scope out once you're inside the track. Of course there will be people there to ask that too.

1

u/Fbeezy Feb 22 '25

Thank you very much.

2

u/TerranFirma Feb 21 '25

Coming from F1 and Supercross as my motorsports of choice, can anyone recommend me a good YouTube primer on race strategy/etc for ovals?

Not necessarily the super speedway, but the shorter tracks where it's probably less obvious what the deal is.

Or just general mechanical/setup/racecraft stuff so I can better have an idea of why they're doing what they're doing outside the draft trains. I did really enjoy Daytona so I wanna pick up more races this year.

1

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert Feb 21 '25

If you only had the money for one, would you rather have a track pass or a scanner? I’ve had a scanner before and it’s cool but not a track pass, is the experience worth it? This is for COTA if that matters.

2

u/DarthLordyTheWise Feb 21 '25

Whatever happened to the Driver’s Council?

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 21 '25

It still exists, and meets with NASCAR regularly although it did get pretty testy during the charter negotiations. But it works more behind the scenes so you don't hear about it much in the media.

Going to Michigan for the first time this summer. Any recommendations on seating and things to do/see?

1

u/shpadoingle Suárez Feb 20 '25

First time going to a race at an actual track this weekend at Atlanta, have only been to last year's Clash at the Coliseum (RIP) before. What time should I show for the cup race and what should I know about the track?

3

u/Mr_Zombie022 2024 NCS Champion Joey Logano Feb 21 '25

When I went I got there at 10:30 am when gates opened for a 3 pm race since it was my first time at the track and I was only going to the cup race. It was fun and I had stuff to do for a majority of the time

3

u/ChevyFan5892448 Feb 20 '25

I’ve been to the Spring race the past 2 years, I try to get there at least 2+ hours before the race. It may be a bit overkill but it lets you get a good parking space (especially in the Shell Rotella lot outside of the front stretch) and have plenty of time for fan zone/merch haulers/“unofficial” merch tents.

The “amenities” at the track are pretty outdated and leaving after the race can take quite a while but I’ve throughly enjoyed the experience for the past couple of years.

1

u/twisted_scom71 Feb 20 '25

So in 1995 I was in a devastating car wreck. I was taken by life flight from caldwell county Kentucky to what was then Wishard Memorial Hospital. The hospital is now the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi hospital in Indianapolis Indiana. I was flown there because back then Wishard was a learning/teaching hospital specializing in car wrecks as they worked closely with the Indy 500. I have my legs because of them. More than anything I'd love to make it to the Indy 500 this year. May 19th this year is my 30 anniversary. I've been walking again for 28. I am disabled and can't afford a trip like that even though I'm only about 4 hours away. Any ideas?? Plz help!!

1

u/ShinsukeNakamoto Feb 20 '25

Any advice on where to sit at Rockingham with two adults and a 12 year old? We might make a trip for the Saturday race.

Also, the ARCA time says tbd. Xfinity race is at 4. When would you guess this would start?

3

u/HarryNurpplez Feb 20 '25

Anywhere in the grandstand is fine as long as it's the middle third. Bottom third rows wont give you the best view all the way around. As high as you're comfortable really.

2

u/ShinsukeNakamoto Feb 20 '25

Ten four. Thank you

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 20 '25

Looks like they will have ARCA and Xfinity practice prior so I'd say early afternoon maybe around 12-1pm.

1

u/ShinsukeNakamoto Feb 20 '25

i thought about it after posting and that might too long a day for my friend’s son. We will probably just do the xfinity race

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 20 '25

I mean a ticket gets you in all day so you can show up and leave as you wish. I went to a race at Iowa many years ago with a buddy of mine and his 4yr old son and after a while he'd get bored, and he'd take him down and walk the fan zone or go back to the car and cool off for a bit. But yes a Xfinity ticket gets you in all day so you can just show up whenever you like.

1

u/Gamer-Filbert Feb 20 '25

Hey everybody, we plan on camping at the poconos race this June for the first time with a truck and trailer and just wanted some pointers. 1: do I need to stay the full five days they advertise or can I stay say Friday afternoon to Sunday night 2: what kind of facilities should I expect? Showers, bathrooms ect. 3: what’s the best place in the infield yall would recommend to camp 4: do they have typical power and water hookups 5: anything else to expect, and any must bring items

2

u/BlankJungle Feb 19 '25

Question: Me and a couple of my friends (they're not necessarily big Nascar fans but would go to a race) are visiting an MLB stadium or two every year. We're looking at 4th of July weekend and the Chicago Cubs are home that week. Is the Chicago Street race a good spectator experience for newbies (I believe it will be the first in person race for 3 of the 5 of them)? Or is it more of an experience catered to true fans being that you can't see the whole track?

3

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 19 '25

I went last year so any questions feel free to ask, I felt the Chicago Street Race to be more of a experience for the casual fan and not so much for purist racing fans. I sat in turn 11 and could only see maybe 2-3 turns, spent the rest of each lap listening to MRN and looking at the video board. It is pretty cool how they have concerts and other activities to go to as well, but is much different than say a race at Chicagoland was.

1

u/BlankJungle Feb 19 '25

I've only ever gone to Pocono with a since it's the closest track to me. Tickets for that are pretty plain and simple (Sunday ticket in the Grandstand) and not much of a production.

I see Chicago has all kinds of packages for tickets. Which package did you get when you went? And in order to get access to all entertainment and the Saturday concert, do I have to get a the reserved seats or frontstretch packages?

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 19 '25

I had a reserved ticket on Michigan ave, although they've changed a bunch of their options and prices this year (the area I sat in isn't reserved anymore just where the new "grounds pass" can access). And no all the entertainment is accessible with even just a Grounds Pass ticket which is only like $100. If all you care about is the concerts, seeing the cars whiz by, and have a good time that is probably fine unless you want to spring for some of the "club" areas which cost a hell of a lot more.

2

u/MolassesOrnery3423 Feb 19 '25

Question: I want to go to my first NASCAR race this season. I am based in San Antonio so naturally my 2 choices are Texas moter speedway or COTA. Which race would yall recommend for the fan experience. And if there is any general tips for attending 1st race.

1

u/Far-Cycle6879 Feb 20 '25

As a fan experience is really dependent on what you value. I’ve never been to either track, but having been to oval racing and road course racing, the experiences will be different. Watching the race itself will be better at TMS and it will be more like the classic NASCAR event where the race is the focal point and the rest of the event is just alright. COTA facilities will likely be much nicer and a better place to spend a day walking around before/after the race. It will be harder to keep up with the race and your favorite drivers as a first time fan. If it were me I would go to Texas.

1

u/MolassesOrnery3423 Feb 20 '25

At tracks like the TMS, is there typically some sort of scoreboard or Jumbotron to see the positions and other info.

1

u/Far-Cycle6879 Feb 20 '25

Largest Jumbotron in the world is at TMS. Screen should help you see positions and replays. Plus they have smaller screens in the infield around pit road that you can see from the stands. I always take binoculars to see things on the track/pit road and they are handy for watching the screens during cautions.

3

u/HarryNurpplez Feb 19 '25

Well TMS as a facility is rather dated at this point. While COTA was made as world class racing venue so naturally the amenities will be better and more modern.

BUT.

With TMS you'll see more of the track if you sit at least halfway up and the action will be much more constant. A track that actually has been somewhat race-y recently. Then you have them using about a mile shorter layout at COTA this year so the wait for cars to go by each lap will be much improved. Will probably help with seeing the cars more in the distance too depending on where you sit. Will be a lower quality of racing compared to TMS though.

What type of racing would you rather see?

1

u/Broodjevoorhuid Feb 18 '25

Does anyone know the best seats/stands for the brickyard 400? I want to go this year but I dont know which stand to choose

2

u/PolarizedGhost Ryan Blaney Feb 21 '25

The brickyard has been my life long race. I always love being anywhere near pit lane.

Indy is such a massive track it's unlikely to be able to easily see the whole track no matter how high up you sit.

If you want the easiest access to the main concession area and all the merch trucks, any seats on tower terrace will do.

If you want to see lots of action going down on the straight front or back stretch, turn 1 or turn 3 seating. Those are typically the most expensive though.

Last year I got the Flex tickets and sat in the area just before turn 1 and it was pretty great. Saw the collision with the pit road exit wall. Flex tickets were a pretty great deal last year.

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 19 '25

Turn 1 is always the best, can see the pitlane and all the way from turn 4 through turn 2. Plus is shaded for nearly the entire race.

1

u/CherkTen Feb 18 '25

Hi all there was an unofficial youtube channel that I've been watching cup series on for the last 5 years, its disappeared. Where can I watch replays now? I am happy to pay, but I don't wanna miss laps, so side by side ads is fine. I don't want to the official Nascar youtube channel as its full of spoilers. I am in Australia, Fox Sports has the license and I can stream it online via Kayosports website, but they have adds in there that are no side by side, so you only get 85% of the race.

1

u/1tankyt Feb 18 '25 edited Feb 18 '25

Nascar Classics has a ton of races

Edit- just noticed that it skips laps

1

u/SBMVPJustinHerbert Feb 18 '25

Anyone have any reviews/expectations for turn 12 at COTA? first time sitting there instead of turn 16

1

u/nascarworker Feb 20 '25

I did the first year and it was ok. For xfinity I sit in turn 15 and can see about 60% of the track. For cup I sit in the paddock club.

1

u/GamingErr0r_503 Feb 18 '25

Hi, I’m sitting at turn 12 as well for the first time, I’ve did some research and it shouldn’t be to bad of a view, depending on where you’re sitting if you’re higher up you can see a decent amount of the track from I’ve looked up. I looked on google maps as well and compared it to the new layout and it should be an interesting corner since it’s somewhat of a straight away before the turn.

1

u/GamingErr0r_503 Feb 18 '25

Going to COTA for the first time for my first ever Motorsport race, is there any suggestions on how to make the experience better? Only going on race day, have track pass already, but wanting to meet some drivers (if able to) just not sure how it works. I know some are at the merch haulers but not sure if you have to get a wrist band or not for meet and greets.

1

u/Andrew_Waples Feb 17 '25

Has anyone done the Nascar race experience at Daytona? Context: https://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/event-calendar/

1

u/Hillojo Feb 17 '25 edited 23d ago

So here in canada we get the cup series on tsn and the xfinity series on cw so I was wondering if there is anyway to watch the truck series? We don't get fs1 in canada and to my knowledge there isn't a way to get it on cable/streaming. EDIT: You can watch trucks on the ctv speed channel

1

u/brebs21 Feb 24 '25

Do you have cable, if you do you can call your provider and ask to add fox sports racing to your package and be able to get every truck race live

1

u/Hillojo Feb 24 '25

Sadly, after some research, my tv provider dropped that channel a while back, so that's not an option

1

u/Dry-Membership3867 Feb 18 '25

Get a vpn and buy Sling tv is an option.

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

This has been a issue for many years, about the only thing you can do is wait for the races to come out on YouTube later in the week. For some reason TSN does not cover FS1/2 races.

1

u/Hillojo Feb 17 '25

Ok thats what I thought just wanted to make sure.

2

u/hybthry Feb 17 '25

New fan, new to following racing- tell me about Carson Hocevar. Probably going to follow him for a few reasons. Went to Daytona last night for the first time and it was a blast. I know he had some car troubles, fuel pump or something, but is it a roll of the dice for things like that or do the bigger names seem to have less of those troubles? I know the team you’re on matters a lot in F1 (that’s about all I know about F1 haha) so just not sure what to entirely expect for following Hocevar this season. I enjoyed watching him even trying to get from 31 to 29th at times and stuff like that. I’m sure there are a lot of rules nuances I won’t understand until I watch a few on TV and pick up on some things.

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

They for sure have less troubles, but nobody is immune for sure. Teams like Hendrick, JGR, Penske almost never have mechanical issues.

4

u/SuzukiCap96 Feb 17 '25

Im a big Cleetus McFarland fan, and i saw a tiktok where he was racing ARCA at Daytona today. Decided to watch the 500 because of that. What series do people recommend to watch for a noob, does it matter? Is the entertainment value different across Cup Series, Xfinity, Craftsman? Thanks

1

u/Far-Cycle6879 Feb 20 '25

I recommend the cup series to start just because the quality of the broadcast and highlights are typically better. Plus the drivers are more consistent. There is more rotating of drivers in and out of cars in the trucks/xfinity.

3

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

I guess it depends on what you like, no series is a "noob" series (ie easier to get into over another) but just depends on if you latch onto a particular driver/team or just enjoy racing. All 3 series are really good and entertaining to watch, a lot more yellows usually in the Truck series vs say the Cup series. Just depends on what you like, hard racing wrecks strategy etc...

3

u/Handsome_Grizzly Bubba Wallace Feb 17 '25

I know NASCAR isn't happy with Ryan Preece flipping at Daytona yet again. Seems that when Bell popped him up and he landed on Jones' hood, there was nothing preventing the air from getting under the car and flipping it over like a pancake.

The underbelly needs to be assessed, it's like a goddamn airplane wing.

6

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

1 constant in the flips last year (at Daytona and Michigan) and the one last night, was another car being alongside the one that flipped. IMO that changes the air around the car and prevents the car from sitting back down once it gets airborne. A lot of people are freaking out about flips but we've had them since the very early days of superspeedways, sometimes they are unavoidable.

2

u/mailman936 Feb 17 '25

which driver’s have multiple cars working with them in a race? Do they strategize to let one driver win every race?

3

u/HarryNurpplez Feb 18 '25

That only applies to a drafting track but...

1)Basically anyone driving the same badge.

2)Kind of illegal.

2

u/reezyreddits Feb 17 '25

This is my first time watching this and I'm so lost. When they crash, what is happening during this quote/unquote "cleanup" and re-establishing positions to make sure that everyone's positions before the crash is maintained?

For example, if a crash happens how do they know who is the #1 car and how is his positioned maintained? because it's not his fucking fault that people crashed

2

u/ChevyFan5892448 Feb 17 '25

First of all, welcome to the sport!

The officials go back to a “timing loop” (8 to 10 + points around a track where positions are taken after every crossing) to determine the spots of cars at the time of caution.

Usually the cars involved that stopped/spun/etc will join the back of the queue as they recover from the crash (occasionally a driver that was slowed but not stopped will get his original spot back, but they usually have to maintain some sort of speed). The officials will read a lineup to each car’s spotters and the field will line up in that order.

After that is taken care of, the pits will open and all of the lead lap cars can pit, then the lapped cars will usually pit on the lap after.

The lineup will be redetermined based on cars that stayed out, lead lap cars that pitted, cars that are laps down, the “wave around” cars, and any cars that incurred a penalty at some point during the caution will be scored at the back of the queue.

Finally they will choose either the inside or outside lane for the restart and take the green flag for the restart on the next lap.

u/FWard24 NASCAR Feb 17 '25

Any chance we could break this sub into 2 separate subs? I completely understand the need for track attendance questions, but I’m trying to find NASCAR 101 Q&A’s and they are hard to find within this sub. I’m lost most of the time when I’m watching the race in regards to strategy, parts of the car, and that kind of stuff, so I’d love to be able to use this to help me.

I’m attending my first race, the Quaker State 400, at Atlanta Motor Speedway later this summer and am looking for any tips to make the experience awesome.

A few pieces of info, I have tickets in section 266, front row (hopefully no poles obstruct the view - any info or feedback would be appreciated). I rented the track provided radio w/easy chat. I’ll be taking a ride share from Alpharetta area.

What times should I show up for the night race? (I wouldn’t mind drinking some beers and hanging out). Is the pre-race pit pass worth it? Do my seats suck? Any other recommendations for a first time fan?

Im super stoked to be going and seeing NASCAR in person. Thanks in advance from this new racing fan!

3

u/ATL4Life95 Feb 19 '25

Hydrate like you've never hydrated before the day before the race. Hydrate again the day of the race. Hydrate at the race. That post race headache because you didnt do so sucks ass.

2

u/Amkski Ty Dillon Feb 17 '25

I cant really add much that the other guy didn't add, but one thing I would definitely reccomend is to bring some sort of first aid kit/bandage package to the track. It might seem silly, but I've seen shit fly into the stands at a few different tracks and it's just a generally a good idea to be safe. Not a needed thing at all, but I would definitely reccomend it

6

u/ThrowAndHit Reddick Feb 18 '25

the first row of sec 266 is actually like row 30+. He'll be far enough away from the fence he *shouldn't* have to worry about anything - plus there's like medical/ems stationed all around the track, wouldn't burden myself with carrying a first aid kit

2

u/Amkski Ty Dillon Feb 18 '25

Oh lol. I didn't know atlanta seating

1

u/dicarlojr Feb 17 '25

Interesting - definitely will consider this. Appreciate the response!

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

You shouldn't have anything except maybe a railing in front of you I see they have those in the very front row of the top sections. But standing up you should be fine and see the track plenty well. Should see the track plenty well enough anywhere in the top sections is high enough from my experience.

I'd keep a eye on the track website in the weeks leading up to the race, they usually put out a driver appearance and raceday schedule, show up as early as you want there is plenty to see and do.

I have not done the pre-race pass at Atlanta, but it is probably the same as the sister track Texas. It allows you to get down on the track before the race, see pre-race shows, concerts, and even a chance to see the drivers walk past on their way to/from driver intros. I'd maybe wait and see what the forecast will be, it is pretty cool but standing in the hot Atlanta sun for 2-3 hours is not ideal.

1

u/dicarlojr Feb 17 '25

Thank you for this! Appreciate the insight. I’m looking forward to seeing the race!

1

u/vtTownie Feb 16 '25

Why does the AMR truck drive around the track constantly during rain delay?

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

Usually checking the track for how wet it is and reporting back to the tower.

2

u/Difficult-Oil8850 Feb 16 '25

Taking my son to the double header next Saturday at Atlanta. It's his first race and my first trucks/xfinity. Is there any type of prerace pit pass that can be bought for it, i haven't seen any for sale like the cup series ones.

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

I don't think they do prerace passes for Trucks/Xfinity just Cup. The reason I was given is that because of all the on-track activity Saturday they don't have as much time to setup the crossover gates and staff security in those areas.

1

u/ATL4Life95 Feb 16 '25

I'm wondering this too. I'd love to meet Frankie Muniz lol.

1

u/Difficult-Oil8850 Feb 16 '25

Lol for real the 90s kid in me would be so happy

1

u/BYEBYE1 Kyle Busch Feb 16 '25

My post was removed so i guess i'll ask it here and of course no one will see it.

Max isn't available in canada and TSN is only showing the race and on-board for 2 drivers, anyway to get access to on-board in canada?

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 17 '25

My guess is use a VPN and get Max.

1

u/BYEBYE1 Kyle Busch Feb 17 '25

Can't get max without a US credit card. Even if I use a VPN they require a postal code to verify credit card info. Canadian postal codes are different then American. With fox being the only network, it's not even worth watching anymore. Just constant ads.

1

u/brebs21 Feb 24 '25

Fox isn’t the only network though

1

u/BYEBYE1 Kyle Busch Feb 24 '25

Fox is the only network feed that streams the race in canada.

2

u/Matter-Timely Feb 16 '25

Does anyone know if we are allowed to bring backpacks? The FAQ says we can, but then there is a visual of permitted items and it says CLEAR bags only. Can anyone confirm?

3

u/Philly16Peach Feb 16 '25

Yes. You’ll be fine.

1

u/Altracing34 NASCAR Feb 16 '25

So I have two questions 1. It’s likely it’s gonna rain tomorrow (I don’t think it’ll cancel the race) so while the track is getting dried is there anything that can be done besides waiting things out? 2. How bad is traffic after the end of the race when trying to leave?

1

u/danieldl Feb 16 '25
  1. There are shops and restaurants... not much else AFAIK.
  2. It was not too bad tonight after Xfinity but that's with a much smaller crowd. It's likely to be bad especially with the rain delays and everything.

0

u/ishantbeashamed Feb 16 '25

Can I just get notified when a race nears the finish? Then I can just tune in for the most exciting part. Can an app do that? (And that alone?)

1

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 16 '25

Maybe set a alarm on your phone to go off 2 hours after the scheduled green flag? I usually just DVR the races and skim through them avoiding commercials.

1

u/BanterQuestYT Feb 16 '25

Unless it's the Tona 500 that's notorious for delays it seems lol. Call it 2.5 hours.

0

u/chris782 Feb 16 '25 edited Feb 16 '25

Anyone know if ticket prices for the 500 come down a lot after the race starts? Just moved to the area and was thinking about riding my bike there tomorrow and checking it out. Spent too much on Miami grand prix and 24 hour of Daytona tickets this year already and trying to save some cash. Are there scalpers to buy from or is everything online now?

1

u/Olhapravocever Feb 16 '25

Did you get any answer? For today's race there were a few scalpers selling. For tomorrow he was asking 300, but I wonder if tomorrow after the start it gets lower

1

u/chris782 Feb 16 '25

No but I just saw 1 for less than $100 on stubhub for the 1st time. Looks like they are dropping.

2

u/willfla29 Feb 15 '25

I left when NASCAR implemented the stages a few years ago as a Harvick fan. I’m thinking about trying to get back into it again this year, but obviously need a new driver to follow.

Any younger drivers who are:

1) hard chargers 2) not a nepotism or daddy’s money hire 3) likely to be good but haven’t had a ton of success yet so as I’m not a bandwagon fan?

1

u/goldminer1024 Chase Elliott Feb 19 '25

Ross Chastain is one of the best drivers to watch.

5

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 16 '25

SVG is a obvious one, another is Chase Briscoe. Both have won a race or two before but are hard racers and still somewhat of a underdog.

1

u/Jonasthewicked2 Briscoe Feb 16 '25

Yup but I’m hoping this is Chase’s year

2

u/meh-attitude Feb 15 '25

Watching the xfinity from Aus. Used to be a big fan “back in the day”. Has it now just turned into 4-5 laps on air, then 10mins of ads. Mossing most the stage? Whats the go. I wanna watch racing!!

2

u/Potential_Plan_4533 Feb 16 '25

It hasn't changed much over the past 25 years or so, same amount of commercials. We at least have more "side-by-side" so even at commercial we can still see the race.
