2026 Throwback Weekend Idea
We have obviously seen some of the drivers unhappy with the throwback weekend, but for next year, I was thinking that they should do something similar to what the NHL did with the reverse retro jerseys, bringing back an old scheme but adding a twist to it. It would be cool to see new iterations of schemes we have loved.

They’re all already not honoring the original spirit of the schemes they’re throwing back to. Let’s not give them an excuse to do it more.

I know it won’t happen, but if Xfinity and trucks keep Rockingham as a stand alone weekend next year I’d like to see that become throwback weekend. Xfinity has the best throwbacks of the three series anyway.

I like that the teams have flexibility, so im gonna say no on forced, but yes it would be cool to see a team go with that
Honestly I think more teams in Cup should try for a fauxback, if they have a sponsor that doesn't want to commit to a true throwback. Use a simple scheme (single color or two tone) that's just reminiscent of the 50s/60/70s and crucially change their number font to something hand painted. So it appears to be an old timey car of yesteryear but without a specific reference
I think more sponsors could get on board with something like this that doesn't hide their own branding. Bonus points if they use a retro logo, but still can look good without it.

Here is an idea I thought of. NASCAR designates a year… say 1997. And each car has to pick a scheme from that season to run during the throwback race. And rotate the track maybe? This way you could have a full throwback race to a different year.

I think it would be cool if they just picked one year to throwback to each year. For example, next year it could be a 1994 throwback weekend then the following year it could be a different year like 1977 or 2006. Maybe just have the fans vote on what year the next throwback should be.
