[REQUEST] I'm out of things to watch on Netflix, help please!

I enjoy watching most comedies, provided they aren't overly mean-spirited, and I'm also a fan of well-made dramas.

Some of my favorite shows and movies include: Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Office, Superstore, Schitt's Creek, Lucifer, Psych, We're the Millers, I Love You, Man, The Shawshank Redemption, Bon Cop Bad Cop, The Ridiculous 6, the remake of Vacation, A Man Called Otto, Exploding Kittens, The Whole Nine Yards, Hudson Hawk, The Invention of Lying, Family Switch, and Meet the Parents.

I'm open to any recommendations you have!

Kim's Convenience

u/Imraith-Nimphais 4d ago

Oh yeah—super great series. Hilarious and heartfelt.

7

u/jcmib 4d ago

I would add Working Moms too, also set in Toronto. It’s about a mommy and me group of mommies that get in trouble.

Fantastic series

u/Odd_Storm_7463 3d ago

If you wanna watch, funny by accident, I started watching alien resident and couldn’t put it down and it was so out of left field of something I would watch, but it’s good

1

u/goddessbela6 1d ago

Oh my god I love this Mr. Iglesias is also super funny

The Residence

Last episode was a bit much, but loved it up till then. Great acting too.

u/Elephant984 4d ago

Grace and Frankie, give it some time but it was amazing, Happy endings, Santa clarity diet, Dead to me or Kevin can F*ck himself

3

u/Obi_Kyle_Kenobi 4d ago

All great suggestions. There hasn’t been anything like Kevin can f us ever on tv as l can remember. The switches between drama and over the top classic 4 camera sitcoms are totally original and the shifts are perfectly timed imo.

2

u/Elephant984 4d ago

That show is truly one of my favorites I’ve ever seen. And you’re right, nothing is quite like it. I didn’t like it as much the first episode but then it completely hooked me and kept twisting the plot but still kept me interested

I ♥️♥️♥️ Grace and Frankie !!

Try "The Good Place" for a comedy with heart, or "Mindhunter" for a gripping drama.

u/Movie_monster5463 4d ago

I love The Good Place! I will look into Mindhunter

This. One of the best shoes on Netflix. Might take a minute to figure out the accents, but consistently hilarious and thoughtful. Wonderful finale.

1

u/LeftCoastGator 3d ago

Also one of the best shows. 😂

1

u/Odd_Storm_7463 3d ago

That was another one. I watched by accident Derry girls it’s funny

1

u/Coolchomu 3d ago

Survival of the Thickest. Season 2 just released. Go back and watch season 1.

16

u/Imraith-Nimphais 4d ago

One of my favorite short series is After Life, with Ricky Gervais. Just typing the name makes me want to watch it all over again.

A man can’t get over his wife’s death, until he does. Hard to explain how genius and insightful this show is. And a quick, riveting watch all the way through.

3

u/No_Extension3788 3d ago

Also Derek with Ricky Gervais

1

u/zebra615 3d ago

Loved this series! Thanks for the reminder! Definitely worth watching again.

Have you seen GLOW yet? It's a pretty good mix of comedy and drama.

I haven't seen it yet, but A.P Bio is supposed to be a good series. It's got one of the actors from It's Always Sunny.

Blue Mountain State is pretty hilarious if you like jock humor.

No Hard Feelings was a pretty decent movie.

The Wrong Missy was rather charming and funny at the same time.

5

u/RedWine-n-BBQChicken 4d ago

“Ripley” 2025 Award winning show!

6

u/Imraith-Nimphais 4d ago

I have some similar tastes to you, and I loved the Never Have I Ever series, if you’ll watch a high school dramedy.

For a movie, I recommend Eurovision Song Contest. Not many people have seen it, and it’s stellar.

4

u/spoiledandmistreated 4d ago

Loudermilk… you’ll love it..

5

u/Pitiful_Flounder_879 3d ago

Can’t believe The Good Place isn’t on your list!

4

u/forestfluff 4d ago

I Think You Should Leave!

3

u/LeftCoastGator 4d ago

I’ve watched the hot dog car sketch literally 100 times.

3

u/forestfluff 3d ago

Lmao it’s the egg game one for me

YOURE LOOKING AT A NUDE EGG🥚

2

u/Davegrave 4d ago

I Think You Should Leave and Detroiters are all I need Netflix for. Endlessly rewatchable.

4

u/Jjjemmm 4d ago

White Collar

4

u/DragonAlnz 4d ago

Twenty Five Twenty One (coming of age dramedy featuring possibly the best fictional FL character ever!).

Mr Sunshine (an epic masterpiece set in the early 1900s about people fighting to maintain Korea's independence against Japanese colonisation. The first episode might be a little confusing with lots of characters introduced, and the timelines aren't clear, so you can Google a character relationship chart to help).

4

u/still-on-my-path 4d ago

I love Dark Winds

4

u/reduser876 4d ago

Firefly Lane

3

u/jpttpj 4d ago

Derry Girls

Hear me out, consider K-dramas with subtitles on. There is a big variety. The acting is awesome!

5

u/Vast-Jello-7972 4d ago

Apple Cider Vinegar hooked me.

4

u/runningoutofnames57 4d ago

Highly recommend “The Good Place” If you like Kimmy Schmidt, think you will like it!

4

u/Dijon2017 4d ago

Good Girls

If you haven’t seen it, The Queen’s Gambit is a must see well made drama series.

3

u/leolisa_444 4d ago

Lost in Space - nonstop scifi action w/family iZombie - cute - zombie M.E. eats victims brains to solve their murder The Santa Clarita Diet - Drew Barrymore comedy zombie

Have fun!

u/MichaelJAwesome 4d ago

Mo

Binged all two seasons recently. It's one of the best new shows I've seen in awhile. It's one of the few drama/comedies that does both well.

3

u/57JohnKing 4d ago

First thing that came to my mind! 😃 Kim's Convenience. Looks like that's been a popular suggestion. It's great!

3

u/parkrangercarl 3d ago edited 3d ago

Most of my recs are limited series dramas or only have 1 season…

Dramas: Black Doves (6 ep), Adolescence (4eps), Baby Reindeer (7eps), Beef (10eps), Maid (10eps)

+Better Call Saul (6 seasons) if you’ve seen/liked Breaking Bad. +Chilling Adventures of Sabrina if you like CW-type teen dramas

3

u/Wowdudeverycool 2d ago

Extra extra up vote for Beef. I usually don't like that type of show but it was really really good.

3

u/OldDog-1956 3d ago

The Tourist

2

u/BlueeyedBansheeWhyoh 4d ago

No Good Deed (darker but not mean murder comedy with a great cast you'll recognize from other stuff)

Man on the Inside (Michael Schur's post-Good Place show with Ted Danson & Stephanie Beatriz--this one is amazing)

Resident Alien (Alan Tudyk is hilarious and this show is all heart & very clever & funny)

Living with Yourself (Paul Rudd clones himself & it goes badly in a funny and sometimes sweet way)

New Girl can be a bit mean but in a Superstore type way. Community too.

Upper Middle Bogan was pretty cute. I second iZombie & The Good Place.

2

u/LeftCoastGator 4d ago

Upper Middle Bogan was a nice surprise and a really interesting look into (exaggerated, fictionalized) Australian life and culture. Kind of an Australian “Modern Family.”

2

u/ParalegalGuy 4d ago

Subteran

Rectify (AMC) if you like Shawshank Redemption, then I think Rectify is up your alley.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Derry Girls, Younger, Emily in Paris, Call the Midwife, the Diplomat

If you like disaster type films La Palma isn’t half bad. I’m not claiming greatness but it’s absolutely watchable.

How do you run out of things to watch on Netflix? I have never ever come close to running out of things to watch on Netflix. Then again, I subscribe to it for only one or two months out of the year.

My favorite shows on Netflix include:

  • Squid Game
  • Stranger Things
  • All Of Us Are Dead
  • Alice in Borderland
  • Black Mirror
  • Creeped Out
  • Back to 15
  • Red Rose
  • The Big Big Show
  • School Tales

1

u/mmIastro 4d ago

If you want to get lost in good heartedness and not too much drama... Something to keep it light and make you smile

  1. The Good Witch
  2. Doc Martin
  3. Shakespeare and Hathaway

Enjoy

5

u/Movie_monster5463 4d ago

OMG I love Doc Martin, I didn't know other people watched that. I thought that made me weird. Do you know where I can watch it?

1

I’m with you. I am considering dropping the app. It’s full of reality tv and shows with subtitles. I watch the odd show with subtitles but you can’t multitask if you have to read the screen.

1

u/westpalmB-cuban 4d ago

You can always start with Anime ;), netflix have a nice selection

1

u/LeftCoastGator 4d ago

The Brothers Sun. A fantastic blend of comedy, action and drama that’s filmed like a feature film. Immensely entertaining.

1

u/Odd_Storm_7463 3d ago

Behind her eyes, Queen‘s gambit the ranch Your honor it’s a good drama, a discovery of witches running point by far

1

u/697Galilea 3d ago

Ghosts. Gets even funnier as it goes on.

1

u/Open-Kiwi9002 3d ago

In the Dark! I am hooked. About a blind hottie who is sarcastic, funny, and maybe a little mean. She becomes friends with a young drug dealer outside her apartment while she has her cigarette. She eventually stumbles across his dead body and desperately tries to find his killer!

1

u/jdla10 3d ago

Ghosts on CBS or Paramount

Cancel Netflix, sign up for another streaming service. Watch what they have that interests you. Cancel that streaming service and pick another. What what that has to offer. Rinse, repeat.
