This debate mainly stems from people not understanding VAT. When an american says "it costs $80", they pay on average $85.

When a BC Canadian says "it costs $80", they pay $90.

When a European says "it costs 80€", they just pay 80€.

But the real difference, is that a given amount tastes very differently depending on where you live. Some 3rd world countries will never afford a switch, because they don't make $500 in a year. Also 100€ is more money for a Greek than a German, even if they share the same currency.

German minimum salary: €2,222 per month

Greece minimum salary: €830 per month

How the fuck and many products are more expensive in Greece than Germany for some reason.

In my country, the prices listed must have GST (our version of a VAT) included. You can display the price not including GST in some places but it must be in addition to the full GST inclusive prices, not instead of.

I never understood why in some countries like the US/Canada store prices don't have to show how much a product actually costs, including tax. Feels misleading and unnecessarily shifts the responsibility onto the consumer to calculate the real price they will pay prior to purchase.

I totally agree. Not including taxes has proven to have many negative effects. It gives a "I always pay more anyway" mindset when consuming, meaning people get in the habit of wasting money. It also reminds the population of taxes on every transaction, pushing many towards a more conservative thinking : "I'm sick of paying for others, the government steals my hard earned money" etc.

In the United States and Canada each state/province has their own sales tax percentage, with some having no sales tax. So if your business operates in multiple states/provinces you'd have to adjust prices for each, and on social media you'd have to list all the different prices for each individual state and province every time.

So you've explained the simple solution, why don't they do that?

In Europe, most companies sell in multiple languages, currencies and vastly different prices - they just don't put the price on the product, that's just on the shelf in the shop

Additional sales tax can be added by individual counties or cities. I guess big corporations didn't want to concern themselves like that and it stayed that way. I don't know exactly why individual stores don't do this.

People not understanding VAT is not the full story here. What's actually going on is them not understanding the Euro is way weaker compared to the US Dollar than what it was before the pandemic. Historically game and console prices were matched in the US and EU - while 60€ was worth more than $60, the included VAT meant that it was actually a fair equivalent for a game's asking price.

Since the difference between currencies is not as high amymore, the new EU price will naturally not match the US one. When games moved to $70 in the US, our prices increased to €80. Having a price discrepancy where there was none before just feels off to most people, even if they are aware of VAT.

Depends on the country. Sometimes you have plastic surcharge, recycling surcharge, deposit etc.

Neither did we this time (plus he lost the popular vote in 2016 and the Mueller report found significant evidence of Russian interference in that election).

Trump has openly mused about "Elon's voting machines" and "we don't need the votes anymore". Elon's son said, "They'll never know" on an open mic. Their whining about Dems stealing the 2020 election was projection. They spent 4 years planning how to win steal 2-3 swing states to win the 2024 election, and knew Dems would be too afraid to call out anything because they're afraid of being labeled hypocrites.

It's disturbing how many Americans have been swayed by years of Fox News and social media propaganda, but if we had a popular vote (like every other democracy), Trump would've lost in 2016 and 2020, and he wouldn't have been able to manipulate the 2024 election via the electoral college (he wouldn't have been the Republican candidate in 2024 after losing twice before).

granted, biden still got more votes than him in 2020, so you can argue that many people simply didnt bother to vote this time around, but it doesnt change the fact that 77 million people had no issue with his brazen crimes, corruption, scandals, stupid remarks, and the fact that he openly stated that tariffs would be a thing.

it seems like tons of idiots need to have these problems affect them on a personal level before they stop voting against their own interests.

The Mueller report isn't a conspiracy. The fact Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 and 2020 isn't a conspiracy. If this were any other democracy, he would've lost in 2 elections and never would've been the candidate in a 3rd election.

Trump has projected via all his accusations for years. How many Republican politicans make wild accusations about the "dangers of the LGBTQ+ community", only to commit sex crimes on their own?

Two things can be true: there were enough MAGA to legitimately re-elect Trump, and it's also not out-of-line to suggest a 34-time convicted felon that is doing dealings for a certain dictator may seek ways to benefit himself by less than legal means. Elon Musk himself said he was "screwed" if Trump lost the election. Their freedom depended on winning.

Trump and MAGA thrive on people like you that self-righteously dismiss any nefarious suggestions. "Don't stoop to their level" is music to their ears. It's actually a smart strategy to overwhelm the public with "the election was rigged" rhetoric for 4 years, so that any actual nefarious actions will be dismissed on account of fatigue and fear of being accused of being a hypocrite. One party has been ignoring the constitution, gerrymandering districts, etc while the other party still thinks the rule of law will just magically be followed.

Even the most pessimistic people thought a 10% blanket tarriff would be insane. This is just another level of incompetence that I don't think Nintendo expected.

450 euros is not bad, but in nordic european countries (finland, sweden and norway) they cost 600-700€. but thats bcs of greedy retailers, nothing to do with nintendo

In Canada, it's $630. Switch 1 was $399. PS5 with Astrobot is currently $510.

$725CAD after tax.

Keep in mind, our dollar only recently crashed because of Trump's tariffs threats. Before November, the exchange rate would have made it $580 instead of $630.

It might feel cheap to you, but to Canadians it's not. The PS5 and Xbox are both cheaper than the Switch 2.

The Series S is $380

The Switch 1 with MK is $400

The PS5 with Astrobot is $510

The Xbox Series X is $600

The Switch 2 is $630

The Tarifs haven't been applied yet. Of course it's still the same as before. After the Tarifs will be applied we will pay 470 and they something like 600 maybe

We pay more because shipping to EU is more expensive. Because of tax on Carbon emisions (ETS) and emision control (SECA) and other taxes
