As a gay man, I’ve never met gays that are mad or upset that straight people exist. I’ve never met one that wasn’t fully aware that most of us have straight parents and love them.

I saw a man and a woman holding hands at the mall today, and I have no problem with that, but do you really have to do it out in the open? Save it for the bedroom.

The only time I've ever experienced this IRL was one drunk asshole at a drag bar who got up in my face to tell me "this place isn't for you, you don't belong here" before his friends dragged him away and profusely apologised to me. I must have a noticeably not-gay aura, idk. The point is that these people do exist, and places like r/ AreTheStraightsOK are full of them.
Unfortunately it's just human nature that people will generalise based on the loud 1% of queer people who were nasty to them, because they don't remember the 99% who they didn't have any interaction with.
11
u/GoldWallpaper 9d ago
I'm a straight guy with a lot of gay/lesbian friends and family, so I frequent gay bars, often with my SO. Nobody's ever been a dick about it, but I can say one thing: A lot of gay bars aren't friendly to bachelorette parties because -- and I've witnessed this -- they can be annoying af.

To be fair, women going to a space where gay men congregate and then making it all about them really is a dick move. Especially in the era when gays couldn't marry.

English doesn't have them, maybe try German?
4
u/Yankee_Jane 9d ago
Quatsch, schlecht, verarschen, assi, bescheuert...
8
u/WiggyStark 9d ago
Those are all easily translated to generic English words. We need one of those 20 letter mothers that translate into a whole phrase, like 'my asshole clenched so hard it ate my whole being upon reading that'.
6
u/Yankee_Jane 9d ago
Yeah I am not a native speaker, but German is the best for compound words.
Once I didn't know the word for colander, so I asked for "das Nudelbleibtwaßergeht" and got laughed at but they knew what I meant.
Not sure I could accurately create one out of what you described though.
3
u/WiggyStark 9d ago
Lol I was wholly exaggerating with my example, but you got the drift. I only know a few words and phrases because of a friend, but sometimes his mom will throw me something totally random and have me guess what it means based on what I do know about the linguistics of German.

Really wonder what shirt poster and commenter would think about white people wanting a white history month. Or white version of Juneteenth but to remember the whites who died to give them their freedom. Like straight pride, white pride, and cishet pride is just about being the majority who already benefits from a society built by them.

And, these straight pride fools also forget that plenty of lesbians give birth using donor sperm.
8
u/Ameren 9d ago
And with ongoing R&D into in vitro gametogenesis (IVG) and artificial wombs, we could easily end up with a future where there are zero differences in reproductive outcomes for everyone because literally any two adults would be able to have a child together.
But even then, I'm sure the straight pride people would find some new way to feel superior to everyone else.
1
u/thebond_thecurse 7d ago
Gay people who realized/came out after already having a kid in a hetero marriage, gay sperm/egg donors to straight couples, gay best friend sperm donor to lesbian couple! (and visa versa), two queer friends who just decided to start a family together without a romantic entanglement, just ... bisexual people??? The bigots' world is a very, very small and supremely uninteresting place.
16
u/just_a_person_maybe 9d ago
My great grandfather was gay, and societal expectations and stigma made him marry my great grandmother and hide it for decades, which led to a lot of bitterness, adultery, and abuse. They were really miserable, awful people and sometimes I wonder if a little acceptance and therapy could have changed that. Instead, they got to raise some miserable, awful people who in turn either abused their own kids or disappeared to become depressed, traumatized hermits. The generational trauma caused by those two's shit affected me and how I was raised, and I never even met them.
So... yeah, forcing my ancestors to be "straight" really didn't work out that well.
7
u/HOLEDESTROYER69420 9d ago
I empathize with you. A similar thing happened with my father and mother. I no longer have any contact with my mother, and my relationship with my dad is fine now that he’s open and has been living his full truth authentically but it doesn’t absolve him from the infidelity and abuse and neglect. Fuck heteronormativity.

What’s worse is that they feel so oppressed or othered that they feel the need to wear this kind of stuff, but it goes right over their heads why the LGBTQ community has and needs Pride.
They’re feeling the tiniest crumb of what is essentially made-up oppression and they have to act out while not having even an iota of self awareness that what they’re feeling is just the smallest, most minuscule feeling that any queer person has.

I think bisexual people are most likely to think being gay is a choice, because we can choose lol. Their problem is that they're too scared to actually be themselves so they hide their fear behind a wall of anger, rage, and hate.

From what I’m hearing, as long as you don’t say point blank “I hate gay people,” you’re not spreading hatred. You can say immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country” but that’s definitely not hate!

So, I'm ace. And until I started HRT, I was, as far as I'm aware, completely fertile. And even with the HRT, my doctor made a point to offer the option to freeze my sperm, which I turned down because I hate kids.
And that's me as an ace trans person. To say nothing of bi or pan people who are still have het relationships because they're not just attracted to the same gender. They don't stop being queer just because their relationship looks straight.

The funniest part to me is that no one is actually stopping them from organising a straight pride event. They just won’t do it cuz they know it would result in a weird circlejerk for a bunch of neonazis. That whole ass event would end up with like five people showing up max.
These people will bitch and complain about it under every pride posts in june with some reactionary bs about how it should be ‘veterans month’ or ‘mental health awareness month’ instead. As if two things can’t exist at once but it’s obvious those are nothing more than cheap talking points and nothing they actually care about.
They want the all glamour and the fun parts of the queer experience like the parties and “special treatment” but none of the discrimination that actually comes with it and get all pissy when they realise they can’t have it both ways. Ofc they’ll think they’re the good guys every time and think they’re being subversive as if they don’t represent the overall status quo of it all (trying to suppress and erase queer existence and all that jazz).

Do they believe that the sexual organs of a gay person just shrivel up and are rendered unusable just cause they're gay? They truly don't realize that yes, gay people can indeed reproduce. Believe it or not, your sexuality is not a prerequisite for reproduction and there are people who owe their existence to someone who isn't straight.

The psychology behind this is anger and jealousy at the boosterism given to minority groups. They want them back being denigrated but are aware it is socially taboo to do so, so they couch it in terms like this instead.

Yes, because we queers never reproduce with other human beings. What, those two noisy rage beasts? They budded off me in the night and I was forced to nurture them so that they did not consume the world with their chaos. Gay pride exists as opposition to oppression. Pride in standing strong and being yourself in the face of people trying to deny your right to exist as you are.
Shirts like this exist because of straight people who see this and feel upset that a minority group is getting recognized and are afraid that they will lose their power to continue that oppression against them.
One exists out of protest against oppression. The other exists out of protest against protest against oppression.
-5
u/HeywoodJaBlessMe 8d ago
