Its cause Trump writes better memes through existing than anyone could do otherwise. He killed political late night comedy the same way.

40

u/NuclearStudent - Centrist 1d ago

The upside of all of this nonsense is that the left finally, finally has a chance to be funny again.

This is purely based on vibes, but sometime in March, the right started talking like the cultural establishment, and the left started talking like the counterculture. This has nothing directly to do with economics or hard power, though it is heavily related. It's just my sense that despite all the Resist rhetoric about dismantling white supremacy or whatever, the left and libs had a complacent sort of position where they shouted slogans but enjoyed a relative position of power and honestly weren't that threatened.

Now the vibes are that the left and liberals have definitely lost control of the situation. The big institutions, the corporations, the so called legacy media, largely impotent.

3

u/KanyeT - Lib-Right 23h ago

Wokeism has definitely fallen off hard, and yes, in time (not yet), assuming things continue as they are, we will find the right in power of the culture.

Those who find themselves in power typically tend to be for authoritarian measures, and those out of power are for liberty and free expression.

We shifted from the religious right of the 90s and 00s to the woke left in the 10s and 20s. Which branch of rightism dominates in the 30s and 40s will definitely be insane tyrants, and the left will have the ability to meme once again.

if democrats were capable of winning something in 2024 then rightoids wouldnt forced to make memes of morons from the view or that one lady in congress that's a black klansman. im sure we'll get better quality in 2026

204

u/HidingHard - Centrist 1d ago

There's been a noticeable lack of right and specially auth-right lately but then again, with 100% of the US government being theirs, there isn't much to talk about, aside from occasional things from EU or smth.

They won everything so no need to meme anything anymore.

139

u/Single-Highlight7966 - Lib-Right 1d ago

Eh not really this subreddit is contratian In nature whoever is in lead they are against. And trump 2.0 is seemingly more and more of a big shit show.

88

u/TimTraveler - Lib-Center 1d ago

It will be interesting to see if it shakes out that way. this sub is still heavily right dominated even if rightoids are too pussy shit to talk right now

31

u/WorstCPANA - Lib-Right 1d ago

I would be curious what the numbers in this sub actually are, I don't think it's heavily right dominated, just one of the few places on reddit where it's allowed. I would guess that the numbers are fairly even.

21

u/camosnipe1 - Lib-Right 1d ago

there's been stats about this sub posted sometime ago. like someone doing an actual study even, and some posts breaking down amount of posts by flair etc.

nothing recent but maybe you can find them again if you want some older preelection data

21

u/phoncible - Centrist 1d ago

can't remember when, within the last couple years at least, a poll or something that showed this place is actually majority left (in general), but a small majority, like 52% or something. And just the fact that it's not 90% left makes it appear like "a far right sanctuary". It's really not, it just looks that way compared to the rest of reddit. and i think there were more anti-left memes previously because it was the left in power. now, unsurprisingly, it's flipped

14

u/i5-2520M - Left 1d ago

What is actually huge in this sub is antiestablishment sentiment and sentiments againds the democrats from both sides. Actually the dem liberals are the most underrepresented group here.

5

u/RawketPropelled37 - Lib-Center 1d ago

Because we all know deep down we need more like Luigi if we wanted our government to care what its citizens think.

Because we've run our working class into the ground, the annihilation of the Dow is met with a resounding chorus of ambivalence to outright joy.

You might say things will only get worse for them, when investment and production slows, and companies cut labor to save costs.

And for some of them, that is true. 65% of the country lives paycheck to paycheck. Some will hurt. Others just won't care.

It isn't that they are stupid. It is that they are beaten down by an unsustainable hellhole of an economic system.

The accelerationists must be extatic. I'm not one to revel in human suffering, but if this is going to go pear shaped, it is at least an opportunity to ask why our system has failed so utterly that a good portion of the working class applauds as Rome burns.

18

u/Qwert23456 - Lib-Left 1d ago

This is the perspective most fail to see. The majority of americans are completely divorced from the reality of wallstreet and the stock market and have nothing to lose , at least at the moment, so seeing the beneficiaries of the status quo lose their minds isn't going to move the dial much.

If this keeps up though and starts killing 401k's and employment than the R's will have serious problems

11

u/InfiniteRaccoons - Centrist 1d ago

It is killing 401ks. You understand that 401k returns are based on stock market performance, right? I realize most of the people who think this is all fine are teenagers with zero assets but even as a teenager I understood that.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/MysteriousBoard8537 - Lib-Center 1d ago

The stock market directly impacts 401k's. Which is going to be a much bigger deal if social security gets axed.

If it were just the stock market that would be one thing, because stocks bounce back eventually. But the actual tariffs are going to make things cost way more, and price increases are kinda a pandora's box situation. Once they go up, they don't come back down even when the underlying problem is solved, and don't even think wages will catch up.

Imagine if the economic devastation from covid was intentional. This is what we're looking at.

This is how it is. The whole trans athlete thing that affects a specific dozen people is as important as the state of the whole macro economy…why? Time and attention given to some issues is beneficial to a constant divide. Which is why news media should be non profit by law 🤷🏾

21

u/knowledgeisatree - Lib-Right 1d ago

If Dems were so concerned about the economy, they would have unhitched their wagon from the wildly unpopular trans athlete issue. Trump has been talking about tariffs for 30 years. They knew what would happen if he won. All they had to say was "yeah sorry that was stupid" and they probably win.

Instead they die on the hill and let Trump run one of the most effective "fringe issue" political ads of all time.

Kamala talked over and over about how bad the tariffs would be, she never mentioned her race, gender, or trans people during her campaign. But that didn’t matter, there was nothing to do when Republicans can just rile up their media sphere to focus only on trans people.

Suddenly China, national interests, the stock market and force projection matter. They even believe in gun ownership now.

Honestly I commend Trump for giving LibLeft a newfound appreciation of America.

u/_CrazyScientist - Auth-Left 1d ago

Trump said he'd bring down prices. He just forgot to tell y'all he meant the stock prices

12

u/Tantalum71 - Centrist 1d ago

The right can't properly defend the tarrifs but they won't abondon him either so they have to distract people random bs.

Distracting people with culture war bs only works as long as normal people aren't majorly affected by the tarrifs. Maga doesn’t care but they are not needed for Democrats to win elections.

Have auth-right been kicked off of this sub? It’s been crickets from them for awhile. Maybe they’re lowering their heads in shame? Any auth-rights still lurking?

Since when did the left give a flying fuck about the economy?

7

u/Stormruler1 - Centrist 1d ago

They only do when the right wingers get to change things

Suddenly they care about the economy and the system being maintained.

I actually upvoted this because of common sense. Nobody really treats politics seriously anymore. It’s really a war of memes and snarky comebacks than real economic policy discussions

20

u/rhumel - Centrist 1d ago

The meme is cool but the “it’s just a very vocal niche of lunatics don’t cry about it” is one of the main factors for trump winning.

Instead of still belittling how a % of the population feels about an attack from a minority of lunatics, you should go the “oh I agree, these people are idiots and I don’t support them… can we please stick to this particular issue o want to debate”.

But no, people goes the “oh cry me a river they’re just a few bad apples, you fucking hating man baby loser” and get surprised that the same demographic voted against them.

u/Wumpo1 - Centrist 1d ago

This is like saying Biden won 2020 because the right wasn't condemning rightwing nazis enough.

Leftists suddenly really love billionaires stock prices and multi-national corporations.

It's so organic.

  1. Democratic voters are overwhelmingly college educated and wealthy, so, they always have;
  2. Many in the middle class do suffer from stock prices plummeting (401k's and whatnot);
  3. It's totally reasonable to use plummeting stock prices to dunk on the right when the right uses surging stock prices as an indicator that the economy is doing well; and
  4. I do agree that stock prices don't actually mean shit, the stock market can be booming and that does not mean that people are actually thriving.

Democratic voters are overwhelmingly college educated and wealthy, so, they always have

They were the wealthy elite dunking on the working class all along?

It's totally reasonable to use plummeting stock prices to dunk on the right when the right uses surging stock prices as an indicator that the economy is doing well;

Using it to dunk on the right to point out their hypocrisy? Sure, absolutely valid. But so many people have just adopted it as the truth. Practically every comment from the left wing is saying how trump is destroying the economy while pointing at the DOW chart as evidence.

Trump is probably destroying the US economy, but using the stock market to show it is just as dumb as when the right wingers do it.

Literally anybody who has a retirement savings is affected by the stock market going down, not to mention downstream impact on layoffs

→ More replies (4)

12

u/WhereAreMyChains - Left 1d ago

The stock market tanking means two things:

  1. Billionaires are losing money.
  2. People's livelihoods are going to be affected, from increased costs and layoffs to all the other various consequences of the economy slowing down.

But sure, let's pretend like point 1 is what leftists are upset about.

9

u/probablywontrespond2 - Centrist 1d ago

1 Will always lead to 2 as long as billionaires hold their wealth in stocks. All the increased taxes on billionaires (which I support btw) would lead to the stock market tanking as they're forced to liquidate shares, which leads to 2.

Until like a week ago, it didn't bother the left, or they didn't understand/pretend it's not the case.

This sudden care from the left about the stock market is completely fabricated. If it was a Democrat causing it, the left would be throwing parties about the rich losing money. You know it's true.

The political “left” would have a much better time if they didn’t have bad optics and silly culture war.

Class analysis and the power dynamic between the classes was pretty great to read. The modern odd ball culture is wars from the.. I’ll say blue hair people is just sillyness with a political gift wrapping and a nice bow of shaming ontop.

Here’s a question for my Libertarian friends, at what point when a government threatens your retirement/investments/future wellbeing of your descendants does resistance become self defense?

Never, it's future defense at that point
