He played Hotel California on guitar for me one time. Had a line of people waiting to be seated but had to finish absolutely shredding first. 10/10

I don't understand what "that I was son this place" means.

Probably means sold

Aha! "Sold on" to "son" with autocorrect. Thank you internet stranger!

He loves karaoke and if you sing well enough he'll drop everything and play back up guitar. Butterfly Belly is great!

How can I guarantee that this will be happening when I go?

To fight fascism, Portland must lean into the quirk economy.

This was one of the more surreal dining experiences I've ever had. It has all of the component parts of being weird-good but I was just a little too tired and hungry to be able to enjoy the owner's playful jokes about joining him for karaoke.

Also, the liminal space endless loop music filling time before the owner busted out the guitar was super strange. Not as bad as Hengry Dumpling House playing global sad boy breakup "dance" music off Spotify, but still offputting.

Food was aight, considering their broad catering to tricky dietary needs.

Mike and the good folks from Ship John should definitely do a fusion jam session with this owner.

Love these kinds of places. At Palm in Thai Town Los Angeles there's a superb "Thai Elvis" and the food is incredible.

Love this place. 48 hour broth!

Chef needs to either install Adblock or pay for YouTube premium tho

This place rocks. The pho is among the best and the atmosphere and experience are fantastic.

I got a to-go order and he said that I had to sing before I could get my food ;-)

That guy is so nice. If you’re alone in there he’ll still sing, and he’ll sit down and chat with you too.

We visited for my partner's birthday last year because they serve great gluten free options. Same guy serenaded him after learning it was his birthday. We adore him.

He waited all the tables AND provided all the entertainment. Had a great night when I went there!

I went there and he "forced me" to play Careless Whisper on the keyboard (I used to play in a band). My wife hates the song but it's super fun to play and I happened to mention to him that I had been practicing it. The owner is a fun guy.

Butterfly Belly, hands down the best wok fried rice in all of Portland. I could eat their fried rice forever and not get tired of it.
