He most likely gets away with it in a majority of tournaments that he's "in the zone" and ignores everything else... which is gonna get you disqualified and humiliated. Why else would he go in with that handshake movement if it was to always get his advantage.

dude deserves to get disqualified. a ref who's less on top of their shit is gonna let that guy break someone's wrist.
71
u/This_Grass4242 1d ago
Exactly this. It' not only cheating but could potentially injure the opposing wrestler.
I see IFA North American on the back wall.
Under IFA rules 2 warnings equal a foul and 2 fouls equal a loss.
Not just a DQ but a loss.
"SECTION 6. FOULS. Note: Two warnings equal to a foul and two fouls equal to a loss."

Dude committed multiple fouls under those rules and deserved way more official warnings than he got.

86
u/No-Error-5582 1d ago
Yeah, on one hand glad to see the guy lose that badly.
On the other hand, he shouldn't have been there for even half the time he was. If thats how he wants to act, dont even give him the chance to win. If he wants to go in on god knows what and cant control himself because of it, hes out. The end.
36
u/CasualKing21 1d ago
Imo he should've been DQed because of that handshake to arm wrestle position and the arm under the other guy's elbow. If the opponent or the ref wasn't paying attention, I think there could have been a broken arm. And that's way too dangerous to deal with.

u/Ok_Yogurtcloset_5816 1d ago
Wait what, idk arm wrestling stuff. I’m gonna assume by rage pull you mean like how he was trying to pull him at the beginning of the vid
56
u/Cosmicvapour 1d ago edited 1d ago
Yeah, just win on adrenaline and by putting the other guy on his heels with the bullshit aggression. The pro knew he was going to win, he just kept cool until go-time. The aggressive guy was way overmatched, and he knew it. So did the ref. A "pull" is just a match. I'm not really into it either, but a friend was a lightweight champ in Canada. Watch "Pulling John" on Netflix. It's a super-interesting look into the world of professional arm wrestling. It focuses on legend John Brzenk as he tries to compete with the young guys in 2008 or so. Dude didn't lose a pull for like 25 years, lol.

Ref had an insane amount of a patience for a dude who was blatantly trying to cheat and didn’t seem to know the most basic things (stuff I could have figured out just by looking at the table, like “grab that pole”)
3
u/BigRed92E 1d ago
He knows better. I'm sure he's seen at least one arm wrestling video. I'm sure this was all explained in a quick briefing before the comp
Guy is just belligerent and didn't intend on playing fair from the get-go. His initial tactic was to rush his opponent and restrain his fighting arm with his peg hand.
This couldnt be much different from the drunk using both hands to grab the Canadican's fighting hand to leverage him down.
I'm sure his tactics only work on other drunk hotheads, and I'm sure he gets into a fight every night he does.

49
u/race_of_heroes 1d ago
He is drunk as shit. He isn't on speed like people here seem to think, he is barely aware where he is. He has no muscle coordination left, as you can see when they start arm wrestling for real the guy folds immediately because his reaction times are demolished by alcohol. If he was on uppers he would've been yelling out all the excuses for his behaviour but when you are drunk as shit like that it takes so much effort for you to even listen to anyone. You are lagging so badly behind, it's just swinging back and forth with that intense disconnect and you just have to be on the ride like it or not because you have no control left.

These wins are so satisfying. Was at a martial arts tournament once, the kind where the chest guards had censors to count points. Before each match you test the censors by giving your opponent a light kick to see if it works. Well my opponent decided to boot me at what I presume was full power. Can tell you out of my entire martial arts career, this was my most satisfying win, including the spinning head kick I landed flush in the third round and the smile I gave him right after. Other coach walked away without shaking hands, perfect example of being influenced by the company you keep...

u/TwoDurans 1d ago
Guy on the right was trying to cheat. The two most popular moves are to do the top down grip that punches the webbing between the thumb and pointer finger of the other guy, and tweaking the nerve in the elbow. Either one of these can cause so much pain or discomfort that it can give you an edge when it’s time to actually arm wrestle.
Ref was having none of it and the guy lost in a fair fight.

Arm Wrestling is an insane sport. There’s really not a lot of variables to the performance, so a lot of people convince themselves that there’s a psychological component and being and asshole/erratic is somehow getting in their opponent’s head
