Both Trump and Musk are timebound figures.
Trump still believes he exists in the 80's when he fucked women with frosted hair and blue eye shadow under golden chandeliers while people did coke in the bathroom. The "trade deficits and tariffs" shit is anachronistic to that era and the pre-global economy. It's also why he loves "Cats" and the Village People so much.
Musk emerged from the chan space of the early aughts. If you look at the memes and discourse he uses, it's clear he still exists in that historical period.
Both are insulated enough by wealth that they're surrounded by sycophants who happily build little universes for them where they can pretend it's still the world they wish it was. It should also be noted that weaponized nostalgia is generally not an ideal leadership trait...

That's fascinating and I had never heard that! But it certainly tracks... narcissists tend to believe there's an idealized version of the world that Everyone Else is preventing them from experiencing. Nostalgia for the time when a person was "young and cool" would be consistent with this.

From (a lot of sad) experience, they often appear to have almost no... ability (?) to take on new information. Calling them rigid thinkers is a huge understatement.
I know some of them have taken to claiming that they're neurodivergent and as such, any criticism of their behavior is discrimination. But I have ADHD and I don't get to turn it on and off to my own advantage. Whereas Trump, for instance, can be told something factual and will often pretend to take it on board, briefly. But then he reverts to whatever position he was insisting on in the first place, while gaslighting and claiming that he has never said anything other than that.

As a kid that grew up with an ADD diagnosis in the early 90's ... I fucking hated that shit so much. To the point that I'd go out of my way to refuse aids I was entitled to and would happily suffer for it than admit I was different or needed help.
Then seeing objectively vile people play the neurodivergent card to justify being trash human beings ... it makes my fucking blood boil.
Edit: People with neurodivergencies ... don't be like me, take the help you're entitled to. Shits hard enough, you don't have to make it harder.

Well apparently some 2K of us at the Agency in question losing our jobs were defined by various parties as "liberals", "Criminals", and "Lunatic Extremists". The larger industry to implement our projects expands that number quite exponentially.
We lost our jobs and the industry is gone on top of millions of dead people. (not just kids.) Then there's the farmers and others that benefited from the subsidies.

Do they really know what USAID does? Or they just swallow everything Elon and Fox News told them? The agency is to provide assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty and engaging in democratic reforms. If you are saying shouldn't those money be spent in America, then why is Elon trying to dismantle FEMA? Poverty in America? I mean should it even happen since America is the richest country in the world. America is the greatest country in the world.
