Interesting that Musk mainly campaigned on the WI Supreme Court judge’s race, but his candidate was easily trounced by the Democrat. Yet those same voters approved an initiative to require voter ID, an extremely anti-Democratic platform? Without the same push Musk gave the SC candidate?

WI has had voter ID for years. So it’s very easy to vote yes on something you’ve been doing already.

This opens the door to stricter applications of voter ID, which is the bigger problem.

Wisconsin is a swing state so it makes sense that it was approved in past cycles, but not this time. This was a blue surge.

Voter ID isn’t really a red vs blue issue.

From my perspective, though I voted against the amendment, I’ve always needed to provide photo ID to vote in WI. Therefore, I don’t see any issue with it. Someone could just as easily say “that’s just how voting works”, and vote yes.

It’s actually one of the most polarized issues between the two parties. Voter ID disproportionately affects Dems because poorer and working voters have less access to IDs , particularly due to literacy, transportation, and time off of work. Voters in TX were saying that getting a license appointment in rural areas takes months, for example.

Don’t you think many of the voters came out to vote against Musk’s campaigning? Why split their votes?

You clearly don’t understand that showing an ID is an ingrained part of voting in Wisconsin. Voters simply do not care to oppose something that they are used to doing already.

Yes, voter ID in its worst application is extremely politically polarizing, but that’s not what we have here. You can show up with a variety of IDs and proof of residence and still vote.

The fear is that they restrict the approved forms of identification, making it more difficult to acquire. That is the portion that dems should be up in arms about. You should need to prove your identity to vote, that’s common sense, and the options for doing show should be wide ranging and easy to access, something that conservatives oppose.

Voter ID doesn’t do much when bad actors can easily produce fake IDs.

The wording was misleading and requirement of voter ID already exists in Wisconsin. I think this confused some people. I was a Crawford, No vote here in WI.
