Merry Christmas! Hahahaha just kidding you have been hit by the greatest April Fools day prank of all time! Sorry.
What's this post for?
The daily theme posts are great and all, but once the day is over people mostly move on to the next. This is a place that will stick around for the entire month, at the very top of the subreddit. Nice and easy to find, and good for use for the entire month!

Turned this quick sketch into a painting today - working on sketching and painting quickly.
Did the sketch in a few minutes but spend just under an hour on the painting.
Does anyone have sketch to painting works they’d be interested in sharing?

Hello. I wanted to acknowledge all the lovely artists in this sub. I started sketching here about two years ago (just began drawing as an old retired man as a fun hobby) because it was great to have motivational prompts and I felt more accountable by posting daily. I submitted about 500 sketches here.
The skills I gained by practicing with each sketch (shadowing, shapes, fabrics, still life, all of it!) really helped me grow.
This January, I decided to try portraits. I had only done self portraits before because I was bad at portraits and didn’t want to offend anyone by trying to draw them.
I found some subreddits where people actually post references of themselves or pets or whatever and ask you to draw them. They weren’t concerned with realism or likeness and it really allowed me to experiment with styles, colors, paper tones, without the anxiety of trying to create masterpieces.
Unfortunately, once I focused on portraits, my sketchdaily “drawing time” was used up quickly and I stopped posting here. I do miss the casual, no pressure, learn at my own pace environment created here.
All this is a longwinded way of saying that this sub was extremely important for me starting out and gave me tools and confidence to try other things. I’m really enjoying portraits (if interested I have posts in my profile to see my progress), but I still watch the posts here so I can jump on any that intrigue me.
I recognize the exceptional work and dedication from this community and the abundantly warm and gracious comments that engage artists to keep us rendering daily. And special thanks to the hard working moderators who keep the sub prosperous and welcoming to all skill levels.
Keep drawing and continue making the world brighter with your art!

I’m so happy to have had you and other long timers here in the sub. I’m glad you are pursuing portraits skills. Your latest portrait submissions have been amazing. This sub will never forget an artist like you. Save the best ones and post them here once in a while. I love seeing off topic art.

Yesterday I hit 90 days of sketching daily. I never thought I'd hold myself to this new tears resolution and now it's part of my daily routine. I love this subreddit so much!

I switched to traditional mediums last month for daily prompts and it was enlightening and encouraging to learn I can still sketch well enough without a computer.
I switched back to digital this month and started with Rebelle, but then I ditched it and went with Krita. It was fun getting back to digital. Not having to digitize the sketches was a welcome change after doing it for a month. I hope to alternate between digital and traditional monthly going forward.

i love going back to traditional, the tactile feeling of pencil or marker on paper just tickles my brain differently, but i always go back to digital for comfort and reliability
also i looked at some of your sketchbook and i love the little tags you do, ever since i stopped posting on instagram i miss having captions on my art

I love both, but my issue is that sometimes I forget that there are no transform tools, layers, and color corrections with a sketchbook, pen, and watercolors.
And I forget there are layers, brush sizes, and zoom when I'm on digital. although to be fair I suck at colors on both. I'm working on all of those issues.
The notes are there because I recently realized that in this age of smartphones, I had given up on physically writing something down. So I got myself a nice pen and made sure to write something down regularly.
I also need to re-learn how to write my native language because all I type and write is in English. We even have an English-ed version of our native language called "Manglish"

Guess whose apple charging cable just broke again, for the second time this year, JUST when I got back into art? I'm so upset 😩 Especially because I just started on a first of april illustration that I was really excited about for today's prompt and now it's not gonna get its time to shine.
Edit: Bless my parents who are successfully making up for years of trauma by being super kind and helpful, they fixed my bike for me recently. I just remembered, checked the time and realized I had about 15 minutes to make it to a local electronics shop. Got a charging cable and finished my art!

That was a whole story in that one post lol. I'm so happy your parents fixed your bike and you got a new charging cable. Whew! At least they're helping out now, right?

They're trying really hard. And I am too. I believe our relationship will be okay again 😊 It's already so much better than it used to be! We all apologized and had some really hard deep talks that have helped a lot. I'm still on edge around them but they've been respectful towards my boundaries and I'm at a point where my mother can try and hug me and I will hug her back rather than startle. Things are looking up 😊
