This week's character from my anthro WWII storyline is Unnamed Unteroffizier (Sergeant). He's a minor character with whom Godfrey Klemper is briefly involved before he breaks Klemper's heart (which isn't too difficult to do, but anyway). There'll be more about him later in my art Tumblr and Toyhou.se.

I asked my friend what to draw and he sent me a daylight waxing moon picture. And after that I've been playing Anno 1800 the whole day. This is the result xD

edit: The reference was the Stad Amsterdam

Haha I think I was going for clouds in the practice, but space bubbles also works

The thing about time travel is this–you're never really going back in time. Instead, you're stepping into a different version of the past. I realized this during my first trial.

  • from a story I'm working on called the thing about time travel

2

u/OldestSisterAIiMH 605 / 605 1d ago

That sort of time travel is something I can get behind. The "usual" sort where the person is in the same universe/reality often ends up cliched and inconsistent. Stepping into alternate versions works so much better!

u/Specialist_Piano7543 92 / 92 23h ago

Thank you! Yeah I thought so too. Somewhere in hill valley, Dr Brown lays dead on the ground and Marty mcfly is gone, never to be seen again.

An assignment for color class. This involved choosing a close up black and white image of a face in the public domain, posterizing it, printing it in about 6x7 inch size, using the graphite tracing method to transfer the lines to the bristol board, then filling in the posterized sections with our chosen themed color pallet of colored pencils. I chose monochromatic.

I love how it turned out!

1

u/TheAltOfAnAltToo 85 / 85 1d ago

Wow, this is absolutely stellar!! Truly in awe! Your chosen color palatte goes so well with the expression too

2

Ramp ramp! First one of these I've done in a while. Anyone else like ramps?

1

u/cyndeelouwho 0 / 109 1d ago

Wow 😍

2

u/OldestSisterAIiMH 605 / 605 1d ago

Those are gorgeous ramps! I like onions, garlic, scallions, shallots, and leeks, so I think I like ramps too.

Welcome back!

Free draw Friday with my 2 year old nephew

2

u/graphicnovel10 5 / 5 1d ago

I love it! I call that mixed media with stamps, markers and stickers (?!)

2

u/Krob52 29 / 29 1d ago

It’s definitely mixed media. You got it minus the stickers those got put on random stuff throughout the place 🤣

I really liked yesterday's alt prompt, "bed of cheese", so I decided to draw it for today. Hoping that tomorrow's alt will inspire me or I might have to go off prompt because I am not drawing hands unless I absolutely have to 😂

2

u/OldestSisterAIiMH 605 / 605 1d ago

Hahaha I totally get not wanting to do hands. I'm not judging anyone who goes off-topic - some days the prompts just don't work out, or people are working on something else.

This bed of cheese is adorable!

2

u/cyndeelouwho 0 / 109 2d ago

Right! I could choose between so I’m likely doing the cheese bed as well today! I love ❤️❤️ your drawing style, what are you using?

1

u/Faexinna 0 / 85 2d ago

I'm using procreate! I don't really have a style, every one of my drawings seems to turn out different but I am quite happy with this one. Can't wait to see, I loved your birds with arms art!

2

u/cyndeelouwho 0 / 109 1d ago

You certainly have a recognizable style in procreate, such a soft texture on everything, I saw someone mention that one of your images looked like an illustration for a children’s book. I definitely agree, they are fantastic, and I’ll bet you could pursue a children’s book illustration career. What brushes are you using? I use procreate as well and would love to play with this look.

1

u/Faexinna 0 / 85 1d ago

That means a lot actually 🥺 Writing my own book for children (explaining mental illness in a kid friendly way so they don't have to be like me and wonder their whole childhood why their mother doesn't love them the way other mothers love their kids) is my absolute dream. I actually already wrote one before but it was for my end of year project in the last year of school. It was hand illustrated. The problem I have is that I just have no consistency with my art. Every piece turns out completely different even if I use the exact same brushes. I have a faint hope that maybe once I'm getting treatment for my ADHD I'll be able to be more consistent but the hope is faint because my skill growth is horizontal rather than vertical like the people with a super distinct art style you often see.

I am using so many brushes, you have no idea how many packs I have. If you have a specific brush you're wondering about I can probably tell you where it's from but just in general I can recommend Lisa Glanz's brushes, those are responsible for the canvas texture in this one.

I was diagnosed with ADHD last year, at 50, medication has made a significant difference for me. I started art classes last summer for the first time ever, I had so much anxiety until about the end of my first class, right around the time I started meds. The next class was so much less anxiety producing. I grew up feeling different, wrong, rejected, misunderstood, and my mother has told me many times that I'm difficult over the years. If only she had realized I was having a hard time as a child and not giving her a hard time 😢. Had I been diagnosed as a kid, life would have been far less traumatic. My father who I don't speak to anymore, has undiagnosed ADHD himself I've come to realize. He is, for lack of a better term for me, an issue, and refuses to do anything to improve his interactions with people. I can't have that in my life, he is the reason I have PTSD. The man I married years ago who is not unlike him, is the reason I have C-PTSD. I'm healing and have been happily married for 15 years now to a wonderful person now.

I'm telling you this only to illustrate that I understand some of what you are feeling. ((Hugs)) It's a lot... to understand, to mourn the loss of what life could have been (and no one who isn't there or hasn't been can really understand how this feels, and you can't explain it, not really), to process, to keep explaining for the rest of your life to people who will never fully understand, to love yourself even though you have been made to feel inferior by those who should love you the most, to cope with a world built for normal people every single day while no one realizes you sometimes can't cope, even with something you have been looking forward to forever- like a fun vacation, and that just showering is nearly impossible sometimes because you have zero spoons that day. Plus 500 million other things that you are thinking about all at the same time.

Be kind to yourself 🫂 you matter and you are enough

Oh and thanks for the name of the brush maker :)

Are you in the ADHD Sub? I find it helpful.

1

u/Faexinna 0 / 85 1d ago

I am not, I have tried posting there but have found the subreddit somewhat unwelcoming.

For me it's my mother, who also has undiagnosed ADHD, also calls me a difficult child and also caused CPTSD. Like, same history minus the husband, I avoided that part on account of being aroace. I'm definitely... Struggling and not coping very well. All I want is to be normal, I know that's not possible but I'm hoping medication will at least get me to the point where I don't forget to eat, drink water, pee or literally do anything for myself for a full day. Maybe even to the point where I don't miss as many appointments and maybe am able to take better care of my home. Maybe make it so that I'm not constantly trapped in either extreme focus or the opposite. Something like that. I have hope.

My next appointment is monday but ADHD meds are a controlled substance and the process to get them is long. I've been in the process for a year and there's a chance it's gonna take longer.

When I moved I uprooted a sapling Spring Snow Crabapple tree and brought it with me. I have no idea if the transplant worked or if it'll grow this spring. Very soon, I'll be inspecting it for new buds. If there are none, the tree has died. I almost don't want to look. Anyway:

1

u/OldestSisterAIiMH 605 / 605 2d ago

Awww it's you! I hope the tree is ok and has a few new buds.

2

u/AughtNaughtCreator 604 / 604 2d ago

Yep, me :) I hope it's got buds too. I'd like to see it live, it's such a pretty tree
