When he was walking forwards, it was a spacewalk. When he was walking backwards, it was a...

Moonwalk.

Breathtaking

My fear of heights just can’t handle these types of videos. Like I love learning about space stuff and think it’s really cool, but I could never handle be up there.

u/Goregue 4d ago

I don't get having fear of heights from space videos. You are floating! It's not like you would fall to Earth if you stepped aside.

6

u/maximus0118 4d ago

I know it’s not a reasonable fear. The lizard par of my brain still says holy crap that’s terrifying.

everyone's got that little fear voice unless they're broken, the fact that you can ignore it for any amount of time pegs you higher on the board than many.

You should give some of the ISS VR experiences a go.

Usually vertigo only truly kicks in when you have a referential between you and the ground, which is why when you're in a plane you don't really feel it.

Although space does probably have an equivalent, but I would guess pretty different feeling.

Same here. I get a bit scared when looking over the side of a cliff but on an aircraft it's fine.

u/Educational-Monk-298 4d ago

Because of the smelly space feet.

Where’s the wall?

14

u/Lathari 4d ago

I was told there would be ice wall separating mortal lands from the low heavens!

u/CatgoesM00 4d ago

Can’t wait to see their reasoning for his one.

It’s all CGI !! WHERE ARE ALL THE STARS AT !? ROFL.

Flatties always make me giggle.

u/Herf77 4d ago

LMAO, get a load of this guy. He believes there are actually people in space and this isn't all a big misinformation campaign by the shadow government. /s

Where is the hole to the underworld?

Agartha awaits!

What a view!

14

u/Refamonkey 4d ago

It’s a lot more cloudy than I expected!

u/MLSurfcasting 4d ago

Especially for the driest place on earth.

Ice in the sky.

Ice on the ground.

Ice in the sea.

Looks habitable to me.

u/peterabbit456 4d ago

Such a rare treat, to see something (even second hand) that people have never seen before. To have it be so beautiful is an added bonus.

We still live in a time of wonders, despite all of the horror and uncertainty in the world.

Few things can top this. Maybe seeing the view from in orbit around Pluto? But that is for a future generation to see.

Awe-inspiring

Got an instant reminiscence of the following:

“Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!”

“I could not help feeling that they were evil things — Mountains of Madness whose farther slopes looked out over some accursed ultimate abyss.”

Where are the alien pyramids?

4

u/TimAA2017 4d ago

I was wondering about the savage lands.

u/Upshotknothole 4d ago

Under the clouds.

5

u/Basil-Faw1ty 4d ago

Pretty sure that is Hoth actually.

5

u/cheeseHorder 4d ago

Is that ice beneath the ocean near the end?

5

u/sebaska 4d ago

Likely ocean and ice beneath a thin semi-transparent cloud

7

u/protomyth 4d ago

Its amazing how tense I got when they are opening that hatch in shirt sleeves, never mind the socks walking part. This is just amazing.

3

u/photoengineer 4d ago

Wow this view is stunning. I want to go to space so badly.

5

u/Ok_Excitement725 4d ago

Stunning!

Cue the flat earthers about to tell us it computer graphics/movie set/fake

5

u/Perfect-Recover-9523 4d ago

Thats one heck of a movie set! 🤣

u/OpenInverseImage 4d ago

I’m surprised they aren’t full on skeptics shouting we’re all plugged in the Matrix.

u/Piscator629 4d ago

My nerdy brain is worming The Thing soundtrack and then BAM watermelon socks.

u/Danygoku 4d ago

Am I the only one bothered by the finger smudges on the glass??

u/FutilePenguins 4d ago

Man, it's all just so cool. Humanity really is amazing sometimes.

1

u/jay__random 4d ago

Why does the cupola even need opening?

Why not keep it open from the very start? Too breathtaking? :)

1

u/Sad-Requirement-4066 3d ago

Can they set the exposure , so we can see all the stars on video, i wonder how its looks for the naked eyes.

1

u/TheMusicalHobbit 2d ago

Did anyone see all the pyramids?

u/tirutz 4d ago

I am just wondering if this was just alot of money or if it has any research/valueable purpose. If someone could explain.

26

u/_Hexagon__ 4d ago edited 4d ago

They do a little bit of science, like observing auroras and x-ray experiments, but since it's only 3 days there won't be groundbreaking stuff. This mission is more about the novelty factor of a polar orbit. Since all crew members have a background in polar exploration, the mission has probably a high personal significance to them. In comparison to the last Polaris dawn mission, which was more of a private tech demonstration mission, this seems more like a private sightseeing mission.

22

u/ceo_of_banana 4d ago

Well they are doing science experiments, and 2 of them are researchers, but primarily this mission is meant to inspire people for space and science. And surely this is also Mr Wang fulfilling himself a wish...

9

u/maximus0118 4d ago

Any one else think that Mr Wang wanted to join the ultimate mile high club?

I am just wondering if this was just a lot of money

and

u/devo00: “Crew” meaning rich oligarchs

At a time people complain about inconsiderate expenditure, there's a paradox. With commercial spaceflight, its about a tenth of the cost compared with Shuttle times and the superhuman astronautical elite is fast being replaced by around 50% of ordinary people.

or if it has any research/valuable purpose. If someone could explain

IMO, the valuable purpose is environmental outreach. Even if not intended, it will be the most dramatic overview effect for global warming.

Magnificent.

Elon=awesome things happen in space.
No Elon=nothing happens for 50 years.

Just saying, lots of people have money. Buffet uses his money to prop up a communist party operation for example, others solve for large barges. I can get on the ferry for under 3 dollars and its a magnificent ride especially in the summer, no need to exert myself to get the entire boat. Imagine that all people who had money and talent used them to do awesome stuff.

3

u/limeflavoured 4d ago

others solve for large barges

What?

2

u/IWantaSilverMachine 4d ago

I took that as a reference to Jeff Bezos’s expensive luxury yacht.
