Why is 10 called ten?
2
u/Live_Bike4897 17 23h ago
From Middle English ten, tene, from Old English tīen, from Proto-West Germanic *tehun, from Proto-Germanic *tehun, from Proto-Indo-European *déḱm̥. Cognate with Scots ten, tene (“ten”), West Frisian tsien (“ten”), Saterland Frisian tjoon (“ten”), North Frisian tiin (“ten”). See also teen.
ten - The number occurring after nine and before eleven, represented in Arabic numerals (base ten) as 10 and in Roman numerals as X.

Given the increasing polarization in modern politics, the rise of misinformation on social media, and the growing influence of unelected billionaires and corporations on policy-making, is it still accurate to call most Western democracies truly democratic — or have they evolved into oligarchies disguised as democracies where voting becomes more symbolic than effective, especially when large segments of the population feel that regardless of who’s in office, systemic issues like wealth inequality, racial injustice, environmental destruction, and foreign military intervention remain largely unchanged due to deeply entrenched institutional interests that operate beyond the reach of everyday citizens?
