I hate it here

Today I learned that over 90% of Chinese citizens own their house. And many pay as little as 0.5% in property taxes. This country is ass.

But they'd tell you that property taxes pay education. And when redlining decides how much education you would get based on tax paid, you live in fascist state.

The state of the working class when it comes to housing was so much better pre-1990, when capitalists had a real fear of communism. We were receiving concessions like free housing or rent controls even in capitalist countries, in an effort to make us faithful to the capitalist system.

Make the Capitalists Afraid Again.

Not to mention if you go back to like the 50’s the ultra wealthy were getting taxed like a motherfucker.

14

u/seattle11 Marxist-Leninist-Hakimist 14h ago

They were getting taxed like a motherfucker all the way up until the infamous Ronald Wilson Reagan (Rest in Piss) took office.

Just have a little faith, trickle down takes time but it will reach the workers eventually,  I promise.

Absolutely true.

another reason why we have to push back even at supposedly small things, its a shame that so many people do the elites bidding even if its just by way of writing pro-establishment comments.

Yeah, I will never understand the pseudonymous bootlicking comments from people that get fucked up the ass by the system.

It's like they think their pro-capitalist boss is over their heads 24 hours a day, tracking their reddit activity.

u/TaRRaLX 14h ago

Nah I just think they actually believe they'd be worse off under communism or socialism. Decades of red scare propaganda were so effective that it's become an integral part of society.

If they're American labor aristocrats then they're correct. Their quality of life will be negatively affected by the ending of American imperialism and they won't be able to be overpaid for unproductive work to buy cheap things made by slaves in countries far away.

My friend regularly shows me videos of his sick ass apartment that cost something stupid like 200k. It’s just not fair

2

u/roughandreadyrecarea 15h ago

You can buy a beautiful single family home in parts of the US for 200k. I hate it here too but I don’t feel like thats a flex?

Isn't that also true in China though? I don't know, genuinely asking

If you use the 7:1 nominal conversion rate it's definitely better dollar for dollar in chinese cities especially.

If you use PPP it's mostly the same.

That's not true. We don't pay any property taxes to the gov in terms of years except some ultra-high-end commercial housing. Only in some urban areas you will need to pay a little to the property management office, which will be used for some services like garbage removal, facility repairs, and utility maintenance.

17

u/M00NWizerd 20h ago edited 20h ago

That’s even better lol. How difficult would it be for a foreigner to own property in China?

21

u/TheBigLoop 没有共产党 就没有新中国 19h ago

It's not legal, you need a permanent residence permit which is very difficult to obtain. The most consistent way I've seen people do it is marrying a Chinese partner then waiting like 10 years to get it approved.

5

u/M00NWizerd 19h ago

Damn. So if I came there to teach English or something I would just have to rent?

10

u/TheBigLoop 没有共产党 就没有新中国 17h ago

Or pull up with that rizz

8

u/M00NWizerd 17h ago

Ah renting it is then as I have negative rizz

For most commercial housing in the urban areas, it's a commodity, nothing to do with nationality, you can buy whatever you want. Only those rural houses and government-owned low-cost housing are not open to foreigners.

1

u/Sahaelcorner 14h ago

Depends where, shouldn’t have a problem in the less populated areas.

I have no hope of buying a home in my lifetime unless I straight up move to a different country. Like things can always change and I’d love to stay but looking at how things are going prob not

5

u/Cavanus 20h ago

Ironically, property prices are one of the few redeeming qualities of being here. There are still tons of lcol areas with cheap houses and land. I'd also love to stay, but it's looking increasingly unlikely. Even if I had all the money in the world, it would still be unsafe unless maybe if I kept my mouth shut entirely. I feel we would be better off in Canada with someone like Carney. I now wish I could just have the neoliberal status quo without the quickly materializing fascism.

3

u/SecretMuffin6289 🐍Snake eating own ass🍑 20h ago

More than anything I just don’t wanna leave family and friends unless I have to

2

u/Sudden_Low9120 16h ago

Canada has become increasingly depressing. I gotta force myself to talk somewhat positively about Mark Carney because the NDP is absolutely void of any ideology right now. All platitudes and vibes.

So, even though I won't vote for the Liberals and will still begrudgingly vote for the NDP, I still got root for the outcome that will allow us to spin our wheels in the mud so the NDP can, maybe?, regroup.

Im fortunate to be able to have civil conversations with my dad about politics despite opposing ideologies (he's a Conservative), but even he recognizes the lack of options I have for potential representation. I can even tell he feels bad because these talks have lately just been ending with awkward silences.

With that said; a lot of the conservative/boomer rhetoric and arguments I used to hear from him are gone, and he seems to be leaning toward Carney. So...win? I guess?

1

u/Cavanus 8h ago

At least your government isn't posting the disgusting shit the white house has been. Or sending its own citizens to El Salvador with no due process. As far as neoliberalism goes, Carney seems well ahead of his American peers.

1

u/Sudden_Low9120 4h ago

You're absolutely right that our politics haven't devolved into the sideshow that American politics has turned into.

With that said, though, it doesn't change the fact that this upcoming election is overshadowed by a sense of hopelessness.

Carney seems well ahead of his American Peers because he full believes in Neoliberalism. He has a PhD in Neoliberal Economics. Much of the problems Canadians face today, particularly with housing, are because of Mark Carney

Exactly. Checkmate commie.

It's ridiculous. I only outright own my home because we used the rest of my father's life insurance to pay off the mortgage. Property taxes are too much for what we get. My paid off car was totaled last month, so now I have a car payment again.

No one should have to worry about the basic necessities.

3

u/M00NWizerd 18h ago

That’s gross. I’m sorry. We’re all getting fucked at every opportunity.

2

u/Delicious-Ad5856 18h ago

That's alright, thank you, though. It's disgusting.

6

u/Prestigious-Tank-714 17h ago

99.99% of chinese property owners dont need to pay property taxes.

1

u/M00NWizerd 17h ago

Yeah from what I understand it’s based on the value of the property? I am not the most knowledgeable about this honestly.

3

u/Prestigious-Tank-714 17h ago

based on city. Only tiny percent of home owners in Shanghai and Chongqing pay property tax

2

u/Brother_Lancel 17h ago

Yeah but at least we have some vague notion of freedom in this country!

u/A_Lizard_Named_Yo-Yo Chinese Century Enjoyer 16h ago

I have this problem where when I try to tell my lib friends about stuff like this, they have a catch all defense: the Chinese government is lying about the statistics.

One of my buddies said that yesterday when I was telling him we have more prisoners in dungeons here, like not even per capita but in total. He just says he doesn’t believe the Chinese government tells the truth about how many people are in prison. It’s like a brick wall. How are you supposed to argue against that

1

u/M00NWizerd 53m ago

Idk I deal with the same thing. You’re not allowed to talk about China unless you’re saying something extremely negative. This red scare shit runs deep.

2

u/Substantial_Fan_8921 29m ago

I want to move to China so bad

-9

u/jabuegresaw 17h ago

Don't you think it is a bit weird to make a post complaining about a country without at least saying which one it is?

15

u/M00NWizerd 17h ago

Sorry. The US. The US is garbage.

-19

u/jabuegresaw 17h ago

Lmao I imagined it would be a bitch ass first world country like that. Sorry friend, but the rest of the world is far worst off than you and your people and culture are to blame for it.

Don't like it there? Just cross the border to Mexico, it's right there.

14

u/M00NWizerd 17h ago

Absolutely. I’m not sure there’s a country that exists that the US hasn’t fucked over in some way. Housing should be a basic human right in every country is my point.

American imperialism has ruined the global south and left them in poverty

Americans are also being exploited by the same American imperial government, even if they are relatively better off thanks to the spoils of imperialism (cheap goods)

Both of those can be true.

4

u/Neither-Net2138 12h ago

you have a broken leg? well don't complain because someone had their legs blown off half way across the globe! someone suffers 100 times worse than you, therefore your problems don't matter! you have problems in your life? well someone out there has a it worse, so shut the fuck up. ur suffering doesn't matter because someone else's life is much worse. sound logic, very useful. keep up the good work
