Maintenance Man

Post image

Does 90% of my work at an 80 room capacity hotel. Coming from a retirement community that served 130 residents, and work consisted of work orders and renovations. Now I do mostly preventative maintenance.

My first thought also. Bet he still ain’t

A hot glue stick and a lighter is worth its weight in gold. Some stainless tie wire too.

4

u/207Fixit 1d ago

Noted, thank you

6

u/Ichthius 1d ago

Another good one is baking soda and super glue. It’s a great filler, forms acrylic.

u/Lackingfinalityornot 1d ago

Hot glue and lighter for what?

u/Large_Tool 22h ago

Where's your bong?

1

u/BoSknight 18h ago

Lmao why this?

Maintenance

1

u/BoSknight 12h ago

I barely hear weed jokes at my work, only a couple good ones over the years. No only really references it at all

2

u/Large_Tool 12h ago

The last maintenance job I had was so bad. Management was a joke. The tenants ran the show. So the maintenance team would just hide and get drunk or stoned .

1

u/BoSknight 12h ago

Crazy, I've never worked residential. I guess if you're just painting all day it could be harmless, but in both the big places I've worked there was occasional jokes about it. I'd seen a full 4 loko in some ones truck

2

u/Large_Tool 11h ago

It was a multi billion dollar office building. So, the tenants that spent the most had management doing what they said. And the same tenants would give us tequila. Really miss that job.

2

u/BoSknight 11h ago

That's pretty cool, best I got was tamales but that was good too

u/No-Amphibian-248 1d ago

Where’s your hammer 🔨?

12

u/b0bthedisassembler 1d ago

It’s that blue-handled thing underneath the drill driver.

4

u/No-Amphibian-248 1d ago

Ahhh the channelhammer

6

u/going_mad 19h ago

Chammer

3

u/BoSknight 18h ago

That's the hammer I keep in my tool bag

2

u/207Fixit 1d ago

In the shop. If I need to close up a paint can, I use the buttplate of the Purdy multi tool. Even works when hanging a picture.

9

u/Main_Section_1641 1d ago

And so goes the old “anything’s a hammer if you swing it hard enough”

1

u/Exc8316 13h ago

😂. That made me chuckle.

2

u/nocapslaphomie 21h ago

I use my socket wrench as a hammer. It saves weight in my bag and it's very rare I need anything more than it.

Shocked you don’t have an adjustable wrench or pliers wrench

0

u/207Fixit 1d ago

The adjustable wrench is the bane of my existence. I have tried Knipex in the past. If you use your Channellocks correctly, they will do it all.

7

u/Tongue-Punch 1d ago

Try some smooth jaw channels for things that you don’t want marred like supply line hex nuts.

2

u/207Fixit 1d ago

Fair enough. Again, use them correctly, and you should leave a minimum footprint

6

u/pate_moore 1d ago

Yeah, but if you use the correct tool you leave no footprint. That's my only critique. Other than that it looks like you pulled half of my bag out LOL

1

u/kjyfqr 1d ago

I agree but you may need a second

1

u/207Fixit 1d ago

One is none, and two is one

2

u/kjyfqr 1d ago

That’s bout the only thing you need two of I think. Good kit otherwise

0

u/kjyfqr 1d ago

I like that saying btw

1

u/MASSIVE_Johnson6969 21h ago

They'll mar the shit out of a nice finish.

1

u/207Fixit 11h ago

And we can't have that

5

u/Bone_Dice_in_Aspic 1d ago

Ah, circuit tester, circuit tester, pinchy circuit tester, squeezey circuit tester, skinny pinchy circuit tester, unnecessarily sharp circuit tester, extra squeezey live wire grabber, and liggadigga wire spinner.

5

u/ganon2234 20h ago

Throw away the commercial electric non contact voltage testing pen and buy a Fluke brand. If you are poking around potentially energized circuits without a meter, at least use a reputable tool instead of the cheapest one in existence. It's your life on the line, and you're worth it!

2

u/207Fixit 11h ago edited 11h ago

A fair point. I have had the Fluke pen and hated it. Not to mention they keep having recalls. The most I will ever be working on is 120. Basic electrical only for this guy. The pen is just confirming what I already know.

Be safe out there and enjoy the work

I love how the tool bags cost more than the tools. I want a veta pro badly but just can't bring myself to do it. I'm off to buy my 8th $60 bag I won't like.

Edit. Where did you get the AA battery holder? That's cool.

3

u/207Fixit 1d ago

Story on the bag: HVAC guy gave me a heavily used one when I was just starting out. I ended up gifting it to my brother in law who is working to become an electrician. I missed it so much, I ended up buying the exact same bag a year later. They are pricey, but they are overbuilt like iron.

The battery holder can be found searching Storacell on Amazon. I use them for throwing in my backpack if I do any camping. Very convenient 👌

2

u/Banmeagaindumbadmin 1d ago

Nice bag! Love my Veto

2

u/207Fixit 1d ago

I've been happy with it. Everything I need, nothing that I don't. Backpacks are too bulky, open face bags lose tools.

2

u/Shoddy_Office_1872 1d ago

Basically the perfect EDC for someone who wears more than one hat. Maybe throw in an M12 oscillating tool or a sawzall, depending on what kind of stuff you lean towards.

1

u/207Fixit 1d ago

The oscillating tool was a must at my last maintenance job doing renovations. Now, working at a hotel, I really neaver run into the need for it. I'm new to the Milwakee tools. Was team yellow when I started.

2

u/nocapslaphomie 21h ago

You can carry a few sockets with a 1/4 attachment and it will be lighter than that Klein nut driver. That thing is super heavy. Your multi has 2 of the sizes on it. You can also get needle nose wire strippers and save a space.

2

u/207Fixit 11h ago

Good point. That pass through nut driver is so nice for toilet bolts and faucet hardware. Space is key, and weight isn't a huge concern for me.

1

u/berogg 5h ago

I love that pass through driver. Use one at work. Great for all thread.

1

u/207Fixit 5h ago

Yes indeed

2

u/amiibohunter2015 20h ago

What's the grey pipe one above the box cutter?

1

u/207Fixit 11h ago

Tub drain wrench

1

u/blbd 1d ago

You need a GPS so that ET's bag can phone home.

2

u/207Fixit 1d ago

I'll...be...right...here...

1

u/hooray4tools 1d ago

Nice kit! Thanks for sharing!

I’m trying to figure out the silver “fork” thing - bottom right-ish. Whazzat?

2

u/207Fixit 1d ago

It's a wrench for the shower heads we use. Not essential, but very efficient.

1

u/Gazza1158 1d ago

What is the Blue a nd red Screwdriver under the Kleins?

Nice set up. The only thing missing is a small or folding saw

1

u/207Fixit 1d ago

That's my Lenox multi bit screwdriver. It is easily my most used tool along with the Channellocks. Good retention, and really sturdy tips. I also have a lenox hand saw kicking around in the shop.

1

u/Nairblol 1d ago

Where’s your container of nuts, bolts and screws that will never fit anything you need them too

3

u/207Fixit 1d ago

On the work cart of course...and then when you know one of them will work, you can't find em'

1

u/Flat-Parfait-4703 1d ago

It looks very similar to my work bag. I work Maintenance at school district. The work is virtually the same.

1

u/BogotaLineman 1d ago

No multimeter?

1

u/207Fixit 1d ago

Nahhh

1

u/Responsible-Mail-661 1d ago

Where's the hammer for fixing stuff?

1

u/207Fixit 1d ago

In the shop if the need comes up. Rarely need it for PM's or work orders.

1

u/Toriavac 21h ago

Beautiful set up, bro.

Cheers.

Thank you for sharing.

You can take that tub drain wrench, cut it in half, and use a 1" socket + breaker bar (or ratchet) on the cut end to give you extra leverage when removing tub drains.

(The one I made has a the tub wrench on the end of a 12" extension + ratchet 1/2" drive)

I had to replace several in one go, and making one of those saved me so much time when compared to trying to turn the wrench using some channel locks or a screwdriver stuck in to the hole with my body half way in the tub...

Just take care when installing the tub drains not to overtorque the drain as with the new setup.

I also carry the same Lennox screwdriver (great screwdriver IMHO, I had it when I was a electrician and kept it even though most of my kit is milwuakee, the lennox one fits in pockets better). Oh, carrying a set of small channellocks. (Like the 6" ones) + a penlight on my persons.

Also work pants that have kneepads is always good (CAT, or DeWalt, or Carhart) makes some good work pants with lots of extra pockets and pockets for kneepads.

1

u/207Fixit 11h ago

Noted. I will have to try that at some point

1

u/oldsilver007 18h ago

Basin wrench industrial style that extends and I use an adjustable wrench in combination with channels. I know you said somewhere you hate adjustables but sometimes the Milwaukee I have works better.

1

u/artsmartiens 13h ago

Maintenance woman, but I have the same bag, impact driver, and sockets. But in the manufacturing sector.

1

u/207Fixit 11h ago

Very cool. Yeah, I am new to the driver, but it is a gamechanger foe size, weight, and battery shape.

1

u/dickwildgoose 12h ago

Elliot. Elliot. Elliott

1

u/Watchanddiscover 11h ago

Tape measure?!

1

u/207Fixit 10h ago

In the shop. Not really constructing anything in the hotel

1

u/mrpopenfresh 9h ago

You're a maintenance man

1

u/207Fixit 9h ago

For a hotel

1

u/mrpopenfresh 9h ago

Of 80 rooms

1

u/FlipGordon 9h ago

Which one of these is your favorite "hammer" to use?

2

u/207Fixit 8h ago

Buttplate on the Purdy multi tool

1

u/im_no_doctor_lol 8h ago

You need a good pair of linesman

1

u/207Fixit 8h ago

For what?

1

u/im_no_doctor_lol 8h ago

To twist wires. Strippers are for stripping, diagonal cutters are for cutting and linesman are for twisting wires 🤙🏻

1

u/arushus Ryobi Radical 6h ago

No duct tape!?!?

1

u/207Fixit 6h ago

Always

1

u/Silver_Question_2419 2h ago

You need a vibrating dildo in there... just in case.

Not a single one of those tools look like its been used

7

u/207Fixit 1d ago

I take care of my tools. Love your name btw

1

u/worst_mathematician 3h ago

That is not even true, it's easy to see wear on most of them even. What is it with people fetishizing dirty/rusty/unmaintained tools?

1

u/fartonmycheerios 2h ago

Im guessing your tools have about the same "wear" on them...lol
