Hey OP I saw that you said your vet said nothing was wrong, and I know I’m just some lady on the internet but I strongly encourage you to get a second opinion. Our boy open mouth breathed like this and it was unfortunately a sign of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Okay! I'll take your advice. I don't want Anthony to be wrong with my boy

Sorry to scare you. I just really want our boy’s story to help other people’s cats so anytime there’s a symptom of a possible heart issue I’m always in the comments recommending people check it out.
Hopefully he is just a weirdo!! 🥴

Only when his nose is blocked by a cold or allergies.

Could also be the flehmen response, which is when a cat will open their mouth slightly when experiencing an interesting smell. This allows them to smell whatever it is even better and get more information about it.
It looks kinda like they're making a stink face when they're doing it.

I’ve always wondered why my cat does this. 😭

It's similar to a person keeping their mouth open while sniffing a whisky for taste testing

At the vet right now with a sick kitty and vet told us cats are not mouth breathers unless something is wrong.

My boy Bruce randomly sits with his mouth open and sometimes will meow then not fully shut his mouth. He's such a goober.

My tux snore, she had hay fever pretty bad. We used to joke that she was allergic to her own fur.
I did have a calico that mouth-breathed / panted when she was going to the vet, never any other time.

I have a family of rescues that had bad respitory infections when I took them in ($6k) in vet bills, one died, four lived. They all have scar tissue in their shoots. Some more than others make odd noises and mouth breath, but they're all happy, healthy, and well-fed indoor babies now.
