Travel ULPT: Close to missing your flight? Go to a help center and request wheelchair assistance and have them push you through the airport in record time!

11.1k Upvotes

Source: We arrived at 5:05 PM and our flight finished boarding at 5:30. My dad has a bad knee and went over to the help/service center and requested assistance to get us through TSA (a 22 to 28 minute wait) and get us on the plane.

That man hauled ass through the airport and we boarded our flight at 5:23 PM (TSA+shuttling to the terminals). DIA was no match for that helper who we tipped heavily.

Travel ULPT: due to the government shutdown TSA agents are overworked, spread thin, not getting paid, and resentful towards management. There has never been a better time to smuggle drugs!

Travel ULPT for our Canadian friends, on booking then cancelling travel to the US

Now I’m not saying that I endorse doing the following, even if it is perfectly legal

Do not buy fully refundable airline tickets from Canada, on American air carriers (so not AC or Westjet) to Orlando, Chicago, NYC, DC, Vegas, etc. Note that AC sometimes has codeshares with US airlines, so ensure AC is not the flight operator.

Do not book suites at popular hotels in large demand US cities directly with hotels instead of using non refundable travel sites. Then do not cancel your trip and reservations 4 days in advance (make sure to check the actual cancellation policy) so that you can get a full refund and the airlines and hotels will be scrambling to fill the now open slots

That would hurt the US travel industry heavily

I have not worked in the travel industry for over 10 years, so I don’t know if the airlines keep tabs on how often you cancel flights, in terms of taking action. They definitely do have the data on the flights you booked then cancelled. So if you choose to do this, don’t do it too much with a single airline or hotel chain, to avoid ending up on a blacklist in the future.

Travel ULPT: If you need to cancel an AirBnB within 24 hours, reschedule it for a date more than a day away and then cancel it to get your full refund.

I recently had to move an Airbnb within 24 hours of the reservation. When I went to cancel it, it wasn’t going to refund me for the first night. I moved it to a week later and then canceled it and got a full refund.

Travel ULPT Request: Force children out of a adults-only hot tub

1.1k Upvotes

Hello, my SO and I are currently staying at a ski resort with spa area which contains a pool and 2 hot tubs. The hot tubs are prohibited for -16. When it's not so busy, there are parents in with their children, usually not really bothering the other guests. But currently, as it got more busy, both tubs are filled with parents with their kids encouraging them to jump in and cry out.

It's a fine line between being a Karen and ushering every (good-behaving) kid out or letting the slippery slope slide too far until we reach the point of a hot tub playground.

We've already complained to the reception about the situation but they are unhelpful as they are 'unable to leave their desks'. (Even though the lobby was empty and has been served by one receptionist when it was way more busy)

I am open to be the customer from hell, since rules aren't enforced, but don't want to tread into illegal territory either (flashing, pooping, ...).

Any ULPT that come to mind?

Travel ULPT Request: How can I cause an airline to waste as much money as possible?

1.0k Upvotes

A major US airline carrier has recently screwed me out of ~$300, so now I want to waste at least that much money in their resources, if not many times more.

What are the best ways in which I can cost them money without spending any myself?

The only thing I can think of is spending time tying up their customer service personnel, but are there any more efficient ways to waste their money?

Travel ULPT request need edibles on a cruise

My dad has been a lot head since 11. I am treating him and mom to a cruise for his 70th birthday and her retirement. Issue is pot....how can I get edibles on. I'm not trying for bud.

I have never smoked or even tried it, I have zero desire. But if I want my dad to come he has to have something to keep him high.

I have literally, literally never in my entire life seen my dad not high. Not an exaggeration. This is important.

I'm in Florida and I am getting my pot card solely to get him weed when he flys to visit me.

Travel ULPT; Chuck E Cheese has timed cards as well as points, but the trick is that you can swipe the timed cards every 10-15 secs, So Instead of having to buy 4 cards for my kids, I just buy 1 timed card for them to all share & it works out perfectly, spent 2 hours having a ball with 2 60 min cards.

5.0k Upvotes

Very awesome trick that helps me save money, went from paying 100$ every trip to just under 60$ With food included. Hopefully they never add a longer delay but in the meantime it's definitely worth it if you have multiple kids & just want to have some fun. 2 30 mins cards are just 17$ which is essentially an hour of unlimited games & if your a good parent like me, i also get to play ticket games while they run around so at the end they all can get a nice prize. Hope this helps some parents spend a little more time.

Travel ULPT REQUEST: Booked a vacation rental, had no idea about the age requirement, and now I'll probably lose all my money.

US - Destin, FL

Anybody have any ideas? I'm 23 years old, booked a vacation rental, and, since there was no warning or policy stated any time during the booking process, had no idea that the minimum age for their rentals was 25! And the booking is in 2 weeks! So not only are they going to cancel the reservation when I get there to check in (which they told me they were going to get a copy of my id), but its too late now to get ANY of my money back. What the hell. Do you think I can just tell them I lost my ID and try to see if theyll just take a photoshopped picture of it from my phone? Do they have a way of verifying/running it if they keep a copy? Whats my options here? The rental was $1700. It was supposed to be a vacation for me and my girlfriend. Shes 24.

Travel ULPT: Whenever you transporte something illegal. Before you go to deliver it. First take w/e it is & put it in a USPS Priority Mail shipping box/envelope. Make it look like you’re actually mailing it. Should you ever get pulled over, then the PD will 1st have to get a warrant to open/take it!

Travel ULPT : Avoid extra baggage charges when you fly by getting a CPAP bag.

Most airlines charge for a checked bag and some now are even charging for a carry-on. Legally they cannot charge you extra for a "medical device" bag and also it doesn't count towards your carry-on limit.

So buy the biggest CPAP bag you can get (it will say "medical device on it") and find a cheap second hand small CPAP machine (it doesn't need to work, it's not like they will test it) and you can pack the rest of it with your clothes and stuff and avoid having to pay extra baggage fees.

Travel ULPT: Flights to Tel Aviv are really-really cheap right now, and with a layover in Frankfurt, or London, or Paris you can -winks- "miss your flight" and get a cheap flight to a nice European city that would normally cost 5x as much...

Tickets from Dallas to Tel Aviv, via Lufthansa, with a -winks, and finger quotes- "layover" in Frankfurt, are $700 right now... anyone want to go to Germany for the weekend...?

Travel ULPT: If you're trying to fly and avoid having to check a bag, use a cpap or bipap bag.

Amazon sells them. It will say "medical device" or similar on it and doesn't count as a carry-on. So this way you can bring 3 bags on the plane and save time and money by not having to check anything.

Travel ULPT: Pretend to be texting to get fast lane campers to move over

After giving someone plenty of time to move over, getting mad and honking or just tailgating just makes them not wanna move even more. So what I do is get close to them and swerve a little to get their attention, and then hold my phone up in front of my face. Keep your eyes on the road but your phone up, and probably 75% of the time they’ll move over! No one wants to get hit by a texter.

Disclaimer: it may be illegal to text and drive where you live. Don’t do this with cops around.

Travel ULPT: Credit Card Shenanigans

I got an alert yesterday that some random people made a reservation for six people for tickets on United from Majuro to Honolulu. I immediately reported it to my credit card within 10 minutes, and they promptly closed my card and credited back all my money. I have already called United as well and told them. I know that this effectively ends everything for them and ruins their plan.

I have emails with the names of the people traveling. I am looking for any suggestions as to what I can do with this information. They were flying out of Majuro to Honolulu.

Travel ULPT Request: What is a polite, innovative, and maybe offensive way of telling someone off each time they ask your ethnicity or where are you from?

I dont know why I get asked that alot, but from what it seems some people cant seem to make up their mind about me, and often ask about my ethnicity. Is there a way to leave them confounded, or stupefied without necessarily going to far and leaving the question unanswered? It almost seems like a game to some people, honestly I dont really care to know. Does my look really lead people to question it that much is anyones guess, or why they want to know that bad. What do you recommend? Let me put it to the test. Usually if I do the guessing game with it I get the funniest answers, and they are usually all over the place. So any particularly good way to use this to my advantage?

At times these conversations will usually lead me to having the other party wanting their phone number from me with seemingly some vested interest, but never giving me theirs in return, and never hearing from them again. I really dont know why this is, and it all seems kind of stupid. Is there another level and some innovative and clever way of dealing with this?

Update: Thanks for all the answers. I will try if I can, to get away with being from narnia/rivendale/wakonda :p. Maybe along with some made up name such Mu Lester Dickinson. On a serious note, is there a particular way of figuring out conceited efforts on the other parties end? I am saying this because in the context I am asking this, persons are usually trying oddly hard to dig out where you are from, regardless of a rebuttal or such. It can be to figure out where you are on the totem pole for instance as some have suggested for various snide purposes or get a phone number out of you, usually in some form or another of the subtle use of guilt. To that end I think I would just give a call scammers number, Maybe make up some funny story about me how I am mostly (Some race here), along with saying im antivax(or something mildly contemptable in the said area), while alluding I am jewish and gay or whatever.

Travel ULPT REQUEST How to ensure my bag doesn't get gate checked at the airport?

Last year while flying I was in boarding group C. I waited for all the group B people to line up and made sure to let anyone that got in line behind me go in front of me. When I got to the gate they hadn't called C yet and she said I couldn't board so I just took two steps back and to the side (which I did with no attitude I'll add)

No one else came up so she called C after a minute or so. I went back up to the gate and she immediately told me there's no room for my standard sized carry-on luggage on the plane. When we boarded there was an abundance of room.

Is there a way to guarantee that I can bring it on?

I have a removable USB style battery that fits in a slot in my bag that I've debated on glueing into the bag so I can legitimately say it can't be checked..

Travel ULPT As a weed smoker who loves travelling I’ve found there’s a safe haven for a quiet smoke in most towns and cities. Find the cemetery and settle in front of a grave, I’ve never had anyone bother me while I’m having a joint this way. A few frowns but not single negative word ever.
