California leads the way

These tariffs are nothing but a shakedown. And his crypto coin just happens to be a perfect way to launder the money. Biggest criminal in history.

u/DEAZE 1d ago
I agree. He’s literally using our country’s resources and reputation to bet that his stupid ass tariffs will bring manufacturing back to the US. Nobody is asking for this, we all just wanted prices to go down and now they’re skyrocketing.
13
u/BossParticular3383 1d ago
But my point is that he doesn't care if the tariffs "bring manufacturing back." If that was the goal, then the pressure would be applied more slowly, and with more precision, because it takes a decade, at minimum, for businesses to shift manufacturing. And with all the chaos and uncertainty and sloppiness of these tariffs - business are NOT going to want to make huge investments towards new plants and infrastructure. This is NOT some kind of hail mary economic strategy. It's a motherfucking shakedown. Pundits need to stop analyzing this as if it has any kind of legitimacy.
7
u/DEAZE 1d ago
Oh I absolutely agree. I mean if we’re all being honest here, we just need to ask ourselves why Russia didn’t receive a SINGLE tariff out of all the other hundreds of countries here.
The only logical answer is that someone was bought and paid to destroy our country from the inside out. Both economically and diplomatically. These tariffs do both in a short amount of time and it won’t matter how fast new manufacturing takes to root here in our country.
Pundits have no power here. We need to get so angry that the rest of these spineless republican senators and Mike Johnson see that the majority of the country is pissed. Only then will more of them stand up to this senile tyrant. We’re at 4 republican senators, but we need more. Then we need Mike Johnson to fear for his job so much he brings the bill to vote in the House.
3
u/BossParticular3383 1d ago
Pundits have the power to frame this for what it is - a crime. Fox is working Overtime to sell the "short term suffering/long-term gain" angle. They have removed the dow jones ticker from the chryon ...
3
u/DEAZE 1d ago
I mean I agree they can and have the power to change their bases minds. But will they? The probability of them doing that is lower than actually getting the senators to hear it from their constituents themselves.
Fox should absolutely tell it like it is but then they are easier to lash out and punish, just like how he does with reporters and news agencies he bans from press briefings. But yeah in an ideal world, Fox pundits should report the news instead of just sucking up to this snowflake of a president.
2
u/BossParticular3383 1d ago
I guess it's just going to take alot of relentless suffering ... I think in 6 months with no relief in sight, there will be a sea-change. Maybe not at Fox thought (lol) ...
3
u/DEAZE 1d ago
Yeah unfortunately.. it sucks because we as a country try could have been out of the clear and on our way to take advantage of a growing economy that was on the rise just 3 months ago.
Now we gotta hope that this crazy ass president doesn’t bankrupt our country (both social security and 401K’s lol), before this administration gets checked, and checked hard.
Also the senators are working on preventing more tariffs from happening, so it can happen sooner but only if the Speaker of the House brings the bill to a vote.
3
u/BossParticular3383 1d ago
Yeah ... if only we'd elected a sane, law-abiding person ... I will NEVER get over the complete disgust I feel for people who voted for him this time. After everything.
3
u/DEAZE 1d ago
I’ll never get over it too. I’m 100% with you, those people deserve the lion share of suffering that we’re all receiving because of their careless mistakes.

The Golden State might just survive Trump's Golden Era

I may not agree with everything California does, but to keep our state's economy stable while giving a middle finger to 47 is definitely one of the top 3 things I can get behind.

There's going to be a ballot initiative for secession in 2028 . . . just saying
12
u/NervousDiscount9393 1d ago
If that does end up happening, it certainly has my vote
6
u/Achron9841 1d ago
Can we in washington and oregon go with you?
4
u/NervousDiscount9393 1d ago
Not sure how realistic multiple states seceding into one country would be but hell yeah you’d be welcome
1
2
u/The_Madmartigan_ 1d ago
I wonder how that would play out
2
u/NervousDiscount9393 1d ago
Probably very messy tbh. Federal government wouldn’t let that happen easily

u/mezolithico 21h ago
The states would lose. Texas v White rules there is no right to succeed from the Union.
4
u/The_Madmartigan_ 21h ago
Not being rude with this comment but the rules don’t seem to matter much these days. But I agree it wouldn’t go well for any individual state.
1
u/NervousDiscount9393 20h ago
I’m not an expert on law by any means, but I feel like calling out the US government for not following the constitution could hypothetically be an argument for a state leaving the union if the federal government tried to bring that up. Maybe? I don’t know.

That or joining Canada.
Technically if we followed the rules, both options are not allowed without a congressional something something.
But, now that the rules don't matter anymore, we can do whatever we want! So, ya, let's join Canada. Gotta choose the sane parent when the addicted parent finally goes off the rails.

I always like to say this to all the California nay sayers, we wouldn’t we have 44 million people if it was so shitty.
5
u/Patient_Ad1801 1d ago
And we would not have booming tourism either form all over the world, including our corn and flyover states... They hate it but can't wait to come see it and drop a couple K to see the mouse or the beach or wine country or ski resorts....

Could we just go ahead and make that a west coast coalition type thing please.
5
u/Achron9841 1d ago
I hope the rest of the western blue states can benefit if they manage to succeed in bypassing tariffs

u/Ok_buddabudda2 1d ago
I've got serious issues with California, but sometimes they do what is right. In this case, bravo California. Lead the way guys.
3
u/UserWithno-Name 1d ago
Just let them use those fake labels or have China etc etc ship to a country with 10% (or less if possible) ones and then to the US. Circumvent all of it
3
u/Awolfnamedecho 1d ago
I’m proud to be from California! At least we have the economy, tourism and power to negotiate with other countries. Let’s goooo

Please dear God let this be the case. Boss just told me it'd gonna be a rocky next year or two depending on how bad it gets, and I out loud posited that I hope California somehow figures out a way to protect itself. We will feel the impact hopefully slower than the deep south, and with our padding maybe might (strong maybe) have more time to plan. I hope we can work out a game plan for this shit. J just got a car loan and cannot afford to lose any income or I'm fucking toast.

Go California, but Illinois made an agreement with Mexico a couple of weeks ago. Let's all lead the way.

Got to admit I was getting frustrated with not hearing from Newsome amongst so much crazy. Very happy when he broke his silence, it was for this! Fuck yeah!!!

u/CallUOutBA 7h ago
California needs to find a way to separate from the rest of America. Why support ignorant Red States that elect asshole politicians that steal other Americans hard earned taxes?

u/greenman0003 3h ago
Let’s go Big Gretch, you need to do this with Canada to safe the auto supply chain

u/Wise138 1d ago
While I support this, not sure it's legal. Tariffs are Fed jurisdiction.
3
u/WholeUnique60 23h ago
California can advocate for its economic interests and seek to influence international trade dynamics, any formal agreements with foreign importers would require congressional consent to be legally binding
1
u/SpiritualTwo5256 16h ago
Not sure how they could get away with bypassing tariffs if they are put on federally California can’t just undo it.
1
u/FaceThief9000 5h ago
I mean did Congress pass the tariffs? If it was just Trump then fuck 'em, Congress holds tariff power not the President.

u/GronkDaSlayer 7h ago
That certainly would be great, but I have serious doubts on the feasibility of that. There are probably a host of legal hurdles and whatnot. On the plus side, if that were to happen it would make the fanta fuhrer angry as shit.

u/Challenge_The_DM 1d ago
This is just asking importers and exporters to ignore federal law? Seems pretty risky
8
u/useless_rejoinder 1d ago
You seem to be under the impression that the rule of law means anything anymore. What a great place to be.

Executive orders aren’t law
If they were we’d be so fucked cause Trump has signed 104 in two months. For context Biden signed 163 his whole 4yrs, 34 in his first two months. And the average for a two term president is 237.

So basically put, California is intentionally violating the Constitution….and , as if my magic, that’s a good thing.
1
u/FaceThief9000 5h ago
I mean the President doesn't have the power to actually levy tariffs either, as that is a power of Congress.
1
u/LV_Knight1969 3h ago
Incorrect …There’s 6 major federal laws that give the President statutory power to levy tarriffs.
There’s no law that allows states to override a federal tarriff.
1
u/FaceThief9000 1h ago
You're ignoring that Congress extended that power through their own legislation. Nowhere in the Constitution is it found that the President has tariff power. They could easily revoke that privilege, it is a privilege, not a power of the office itself.

After seeing towns destroyed and people killed in Paradise CA by PG&E?
After seeing SCE start fires near Pacific Palisades, destroying billions in homes?
Yeah, tell us how CA is leading the way. Appreciate the contribution to the carbon footprint as well.

u/Moonsmark 1d ago
California is doing everything to restore those areas to become livable again. They have to replace plumbing and electric wiring at the city level because everything melted.
Edited to fix spelling error

u/Qs9bxNKZ 1d ago
They’re not. Take a look at the permitting process and requirements.
Eg fast track if you agree to go climate worthy all electric.
And then we have the zoning issues. A contributing issue was the large home size and limited gaps for defensive space.

PG & E is a filthy corporation NOT a state run enterprise. We don't like them either. We don't want their fires. Don't blame the people of California for the stupid capitalism doing stupid capitalism things lol. It's the system of our whole country not just the west lol
1
u/Qs9bxNKZ 1d ago
The CPUC put into office by the Democrats oversees the business practices of PG&E.
The AG can bring criminal charges, not just against the company but individuals. Did the former, not the latter. No one went to jail when PG&E was found criminally liable.
1
u/Patient_Ad1801 1d ago
Cpuc is also appointed by Republicans at times. It's shit and they are unelected. Depends on who is governor and which state senators confirm their corrupt asses. Don't put it on Dems just because a Dem is in office lol. We don't like them either. Would be nice if Newscum wasn't on the PG&E teat but he's still better than a Trumpanzee who would let the corporations run even MORE rampant over us with fewer regulations and such... Dumb and dumber are the two choices when it comes to choosing a politician to deal with PG&E. They're not going to do anything for us because PG&E is their biggest donor, regardless of party

California always leads the way….but gets a lot of hate for it……”they hate us cause they ain’t us”…go Cali!!
