But Krasnov made sure Russia isn't subject to tarriffs. So why is this happening?

A looming recession means the demand of oil will likely be less as fewer people travel and spending is decreased. The price of oil drops due to the belief that supply is currently outpacing demand. And oil is really one of the only things propping up the Russian wartime economy.

That and China was already buying less, and they are hit with tariffs. So i expect they will buy even less.

The Opec countries just boosted output, that helps too...

Super convenient how that Saudi funded golf open is being held at mar a lago this weekend.

Looming global recession

OPEC also made a decision to increase production based on Trump's tariffs under the assumption that his tariffs would increase the cost of buying energy from the US so people would buy elsewhere. Basically what all this amounts to at the end of the day is more oil in barrels with less demand globally is a likely future outcome. When supply outpaces demand, prices fall.

The thing with that, though, is that the price drop is largely temporary. As soon as the tariffs get removed, the price will rise again as demand goes up and supply drops.

Not in a depression.

u/101Phase 12h ago

The most important part would be the drop in oil prices, but it also means that Russia can no longer dodge sanctions for their exports as efficiently via 3rd countries because those 3rd countries also face tarrifs

23

u/Saorren 12h ago

almost every country's economy at this point is entertwined with many other countries in some cases to an extreme. because of this the scope of tarrifs will affect every single county even if no tarrifs are on a handfull of them because too many of the others will suffer a reduced economy. often under a reduced economy jobs will be lost and prouction suffer until a new path can be built up to counteract it.

basicaly 200+ countries and only 3 spared makes for all countries suffering in the end.

u/onegumas 9h ago

Even that he fucked up.

3

u/thegooddoktorjones 9h ago

The entire tariff scheme was stupid.

u/Smokealotofpotalus 10h ago

Opec boosted output...

It's not just them, it's happening everywhere. Doing a speed run to the great depression thanks to American citizens being absolute morons.

But I'm glad it's them, too.

82

u/Jops817 11h ago

It's Trump, so you know it will be the greatest depression, folks. A big beautiful great depression.

31

u/da2Pakaveli 11h ago

In fact they say: "Donald, it's gonna be the biggliest one ever!".

It took me about 70 days to do what Herbert Hoover took 5-6 months for.

And they told me "It's incredible!"

4

u/SalvagedGarden 9h ago

The greatest depression. No one can do a depression like me. Really just a good good depression. Ask anyone at wall street.

It's going to be one of the few things with his name on it that has real staying power.

26

u/the_simurgh 13h ago

Must suck to be putin. Trump is turning everything to shit for him.

16

u/mystroseeker 12h ago

And Putin was very happy thinking that Krasnov will wreck the western economy leaving Russia unaffected…

28

u/ComCypher 12h ago

tbf this is the same guy who thought invading Ukraine would be a good idea.

7

u/lewger 12h ago

Recession destroys the oil price which is basically the Russian economy.

5

u/Mish61 8h ago

Fox News: Why would Joe Biden do this ?

4

u/combonickel55 12h ago

Dpn't fall for this attempt to soften the blow of Trumps idiotic tarrifs.

1

u/ms_panelopi 9h ago

Ughh. You are right. Our country has so many stupid morons. This sucks and I’m sorry the rest of the world is going down with us.

23

u/MKW69 13h ago

Krasnow works too well.

34

u/Thomas_JCG 11h ago

Uplifting? This is like that meme where SpongeBob "saves" the city but Bikini Bottom is up in flames.

5

u/harumamburoo 11h ago

Oil money pay for their war effort, so yes, it is in fact uplifting

9

u/Thomas_JCG 11h ago

Getting rid of one problem at the cost of everyone else is hardly uplifting.

9

u/harumamburoo 10h ago

No, it’s just a bit of silver lining, potentially less civilian casualties and destruction, I’ll take it.

2

u/PaulR79 9h ago

That's a very narrow view. It's potentially less in one area while opening up quite literally everywhere else to more casualties and destruction. Whether that's by bullets and bombs or dying due to a whole host of other things that come about from this mess is just a small detail.

10

u/UnCommonSense99 10h ago

Russian market went down 8%. This is roughly the same fall as USA, EU , UK. No surprise there, not uplifting news at all.

10

u/AdelaiNiskaBoo 12h ago

So its now americas fault that the russian economy struggle and not because putin started a dump war and a big part of the economy is in war production.

They will probably spin it that only thanks to putin its not worse or that only he can save the economy...

6

u/EuphoricTravel1790 11h ago

Seems like they are pointing everything at tariff instead of investigating. Perhaps Russia's problems are related to a failed invasion of another country and international sanctions.

And the drop in oil prices is due to OPEC's increased production.

Lots of correlation without causation.

5

u/thegooddoktorjones 9h ago

That’s as uplifting as your neighbor with the loud dogs house burning down because your house caught fire.

19

u/combonickel55 12h ago

Pretending that Trump destroying the global economy is a 'win' vs Russia on Reddit?

Something in me does not expect this attempt at karma whoring to end well.....

6

u/Artur_Mills 12h ago

yea this is some 'own the libs' style news

3

u/da2Pakaveli 11h ago

i swear trump could tell Republicans he changed the lightbulb and they'd be there clapping in the dark

1

u/TheGallow 9h ago

Silver linings

1

u/ZuFFuLuZ 10h ago

What the hell is this news? The markets are collapsing everywhere. $23 billion is an absolute joke compared to the trillions that were lost everywhere else.
The only uplifting news here is that the Russian stock market is comically tiny, if that's really 8.5%.

1

u/Ok-Mine1268 8h ago

This is Uplifting News. Jesus, it amazes me that so many of Reddits idiots can’t see what’s coming. It isn’t uplifting.

1

u/ElectronHick 8h ago

So gas prices are coming down more right?

1

u/spicyeyeballs 10h ago

Putin should make his trump shaped puppet remove tarrifs. I expect that will start happening next week. He will claim wins but when Putin says jump trump does his dambdest to do it.

-1

u/FOXHOUND9000 12h ago

You love to see it.

0

u/TimmyIV 11h ago

Trump better be careful, or Putin will have defenestrated.

u/TBTabby 11h ago

Ooh, Donny boy, Daddy Vladdy's gonna be mad at you...
