Help Me Find Shared space for wood enthusiasts?

Post image

Good morning!

I have a woodworking passion. I just love it, it’s my zen space. I used to have a pretty decent shop with all of the tools I needed. Since moving here, space is a bit more of an issue (housing cost anyone!?) so I’ve gone the unplugged way.

While I truly enjoy the process, let’s face it. Some aspect of it are just better with a machine. I don’t want / can’t buy back the slay of planner/joiner/bandsaw/table saw/dust collector array of toys, so I’m wondering if there’s some sort of shared woodworking space downtown / Esquimalt area? I’m not looking for much, mainly a space I can access a few hours a month to mill some wood. The occasional resawing would be nice as well. I want to keep doing most of my projects by hand, so I’m not looking for a full time space. Just some ways to speed the labour intensive part up a bit

Or alternatively, if someone has some sort of basement shop like I use to and is willing to work something out. I have kids (therefore not that much free time) so probably only looking to access such areas on the Fridays when I have a day off or weekends

Open to any suggestions! Feel free to DM me! :)

Thanks! Will check this out! Any other places you know of? I thought I saw something in Fernwood a while ago while biking around but can’t remember where

There's a new makerspace (including woodworking shop) opening in North Park this summer:

This is awesome! I’ll reach out to them, that’s exactly what i was looking for!

I mainly do furniture for us. I like the idea of building something that will last as long as we take care of it. So from a crib for our first kid to over killed and over engineered baby gates , beds, etc. Everything I made so far in the last 15 years is in use by us or a family friend, so that makes me happy 😊

The real question is, do you respect wood?

You have no idea! :). I collect every single tiny off cut piece and never throw anything away. Every piece of wood tells a story! :)
