I’m almooooooost done with this project and while I’m somewhat annoyed bc my sister’s cats apparently are still scratching at this couch and I’m basically positive will destroy the decorative part, I am proud of the work I’ve done!

EMBROIDERY My favorite sweatpants got snagged in the wash

I wear these thick sweatpants a lot during the winter, and this little hole was the perfect excuse to try a spiderweb! I chained stitched around the edge to smooth out the shape and cover the last of the straight stitches that were hanging out past the web

Hoping to add more playful designs around it, but for now, I got it stabilized!

EMBROIDERY Anyone else low-key hate visible mending?

Like, the process of it. I love it, conceptually, I reject fast fashion, etc so forth but when I’m actually fixing a hole in a thing I end up cursing the thread knots, wondering why it doesn’t just LoOk LiKe ThE tIcToK and then think about all the other things I could be doing other than fixing stupid holes in my clothes. Avoiding mending to begin with has made me way more mindful about washing and wearing things, that’s for sure.

Anyway, here is my chaos pentagram that ended up looking like a cute little star (it was way more witchy in my head). Not really looking for tips, except in attitude adjustments I guess.

Placed a patch on the inside of the pants and then tacked it down with some ginkgo leaves! (also some faux darning in the spots that the leaves didn't cover).

EMBROIDERY Repairing holes in my kid’s pants with a “Ford Explorer” and small butt spider

A while back my 8 year old son requested a Ford Explorer repair for his pants. I was hoping he’d maybe forget but alas, he did not lol. I did the best I could and he loves it so that’s the important part.

My 6 year old son, the little comedian, wanted a “butt spider” repairing a hole on his back pocket. This one took surprisingly little time to freehand and I’m tempted to start embroidering spiders on everything!

EMBROIDERY First try at visible mending - matching patterns on the outfit

Got myself an embroidery kit 2 years ago, but only began practicing in earnest last year after I found a small rip in my kimono style blouse.

Tried to match the embroidery to be as similar to the patterns on the blouse. The back is a bit messy but I will be covering that with interface. Kinda proud that I was able to fix this.

The wings on the top bee on the sleeve are too big. It looks like a butterfly. And as soon as I washed it after completion I found another hold on the back. I may redo the wings on that one when I get around to adding the next one.

Not the prettiest, but it gets the job done. It is certainly a lot comfier than the bare foam and flaking plastic.

EMBROIDERY Sewed up the busted zippers 3 years ago

These boots were already a bit rough when the zippers broke, but the new lease on life has been insane. These boots have been my daily driver since I repaired them; I use them for work and casual wear, and they're my favorite boots to go fishing and hiking in. Easily the most durable repair I've ever made! Now I just need to figure out what to do with the peeling pleather.

EMBROIDERY UPDATE: Trench Coat Rip

Thumbnail

Some months ago I posted in this group requesting for advise. I am happy to update everyone and show you what it looks like now that I have finished the embroidery.

I originally had tried to sort it invisibly with a ladder stitch, but that did not work out due to the placement. Later, I sewn in an embroidery patch that I got from my wedding dress, but that didn’t work out either (the colors).

So after much thinking, I found a store with classes, shared my conundrum and together came up with the solution. The teacher helped me mend properly the rip, and then she taught me the embroidery techniques while I chose the pattern.

I hope you like it!

I’m a newbie at this! Repair on a linen dress whee I ripped the pocket. Repaired the cut and then hid the repair with embroidery. It’s a bit loose, but I learned a lot.

I should have left it with the invisible mend... Couldn't figure out how to do a stem neatly on the seam. It's supposed to be a dandelion.
