The string I used is just embroidery floss, so I feel like it won’t last long. I need some real yarn

I've been learning to darn, I worked to patch a hole and I was so proud of myself - until I turned it over and realized I was working on the wrong side. Whoops! At least it's pajamas

DARNING First attempt at hand darning went well right until the end 🤷‍♂️ lessons were learned

My dog doesn't know how pockets work and wanted a Reeses wrapper in my fav jeans. Left a nice little hole so I decided to try my hand at darning. My gf, a textile scientist, tried to warn me that my weave would be hard to finish and she was right as usual. I did learn a lot though and I'm excited for my next repair.

DARNING Everyone here does such pretty mending… then there’s me

To be fair to me both are on the inside of a jacket

First one is from me patching up a hole in a pocket

Second one is me fixing a hole on the armpit seam

In all honesty though the quality would not change if they were on the outside, Ive done similar jobs on other clothes but I’m too lazy to go and find those right now

I simply do not have the patience for the pretty darning

So I do this horrible mockery of it instead

As long as the hole isn’t there I guess XD

A friend gifted me these awesome socks and they sadly wore holes in very quickly. A little bit of Swiss darning and they're back on my feet! ( I do need to add a bit more to the pink one. I only noticed there were more thin spots after fixing the hole.)

Dude got me a darning loom, and I tested it out on an old sock I wasn't attached to, just in case the first use didn't go well.

Turns out, I'm a lot more attached to this sock since it looks so good!! It's got two more holes in the toe, and I'll be fixing those too now. This is so much fun!!

DARNING First time using a speedweve

Heya! This is my first time trying visible mending and using a speedweve on a pocket rip (also added an iron on patch on the inside just in case).

Probably there's quite a few mistakes, and it doesn't look half as tidy as the mendings in this sub so if you have any advice I'd greatly appreciate it 🙏

Pattern and colour choice made by my son, and most of the work done by me. Though he did help too. Now our (old, cheap ikea) blanket has a very snazzy patch. He wants to fix more holes now!

DARNING Inspired by y'all, I bought a speedweave

I tried to pull the threads down when I was finished so I could close the top loops.. that proved to be a terrible idea. The patch was perfect until I did that.. but hey, I learned something! I also learned that stretchy pants are a menace.

I am still a bit confused by what to do with the excess threads. I read that I am supposed to weave them into the back, but.. fucking how?? I tied them into knots once I pulled them through, and I know in my heart that that is not the way. If anyone can link a good video I would super-duper appreciate it :)

I think it turned out pretty cute, but since it was my first time, do any more experienced menders have any tips?

DARNING tiny plaid darn over a small hole in my t-shirt sleeve

Post image

I rolled the sleeves on this t-shirt up and stitched them down, but hated how it looked after a while, so snipped the stitches. I accidentally snipped the shirt sleeve in a couple spots when I did it, so I'm doing a series of little woven repairs. love this first one so much!

DARNING Is speedweve a gateway drug to full scale weaving?

Post image

I treated myself to a speedweve-type darning loom a little while ago. I’ve been playing around with it a little and now I just want to start weaving like full-scale fabric. Is that a normal reaction? 🤣 For weavers out there… what’s a good beginner level loom? Asking for a friend…

PS - I know she ain’t perfect, maybe i shouldn’t darn a heel as my like 3rd attempt?
