DARNING Favorite hoodie needed new sleeve cuffs and a stain fix
I did a blanket stitch (i think?) with a thick thread around the sleeves and then picked those up and knit a k1,p1, with a stretchy bind-off.
For the stain patch I used a little hand loom to make the diamond weave piece and then pinned it inside where the stain was, then straight stitched around it over the same yarn for a lil border, and cut the inside material that was stained out.
I'm thinking of doing one more patch under it to make it look more integrated? Not sure. But I'm very happy to have my favorite comfy hoodie back!

Looks great and I appreciate the pictures showing your process. Love that you wove the patch on a little loom!

This looks like a very expensive designer hoodie now. Fantastic work!

I see a lot of work on this sub that looks better than the designer cloths sold at high end mall outlets
It really reminds you that all the designer stuff is made in the same Chinese factory that cheap clothes come from anyway
If I'm going to pay $200 for a hoodie, I'd rather buy it from someone in this sub over Ralph Lauren

Wow!! I have a 25 year old hoodie that is in serious need of sleeve repair, but haven't been sure how to proceed. I'm inspired, great job!

EXTREMELY cool!!!!!
Can I ask what the pattern is that you’re weaving on the loom? The texture is so cool

I adore the combo of skills it took to do this and your care to make sure it was done well!

So the cuffs were attached before/as you knitted them? I’d love to see that in progress, it’s hard to visualize and seems like it would have been hard to manage

I unfortunately don't have pictures of that part, but here's what I did:
-Seam ripped original (shredded) cuffs off
-With thick red thread blanket stitched around the cuff
-With double pointed knitting needles, picked up each blanket stitch
-Knit a rib stitch in the round with red yarn onto the blanket stitch thread
So there wasn't a traditional "cast on", instead I picked up onto needles and then knit it. Hopefully that makes it more clear!

It does! Thanks for explaining. I’ll have to try it out to see how it works :) :)

Love it! The size and location of the patch plus the matching cuffs actually make this look very intentional without adding more to balance it out.

Knitting the cuffs is brilliant! Have shied away from repairing cuffs for a while because I suck at sewing, but knitting is my game!

I wish the cut out was in the shape of a heart, I think that would look so cute with the color, you could even stack smaller crochet/ knitted hearts on top!

I considered this! I really couldn't decide what shape to make it but I decided against heart bc I recently did a heart shaped mend on a different red sweater and wanted more variety lol.

I have a small toy loom and haven’t found a use for all the small squares I make. This is inspiring, thanks for sharing!

That's so awesomeinhave an old Marlboro red sweatshirt I have to do something too.
It was never right, even in the 90s haha.
Ibthinknthebmateruaonis in the wrong direction or something, it just became very wide and short when I'm not all that shape so it needs a trim and I have to add some length and elastic to the wrists.
I love that hoodie

Never tried anything like this before, but you’ve inspired me to make new cuffs for an old hoodie that also has a couple holes in it!

Wait, hand woven sleeve cuffs is actually brilliant.
I’m wearing a really worn out hoodie right now that would go great with them.

u/itsgonnabe_mae Jan 23 '25
The sleeve cuffs are actually knit! Woven would be cool too, just not as stretchy

Dang, I thought the hoodie was brought with the cuff the sleeves like that. The funny part is that I was looking for the stain on the hoodie. Please forgive me. I'm 70 years old😂

So I joined this sub a while back, I honestly don’t remember what brought me here lol. But I LOVE your sweater. I think this my favorite example of mending. I’d absolutely buy this if was selling in store.

The choice of yarn is really nice, I like the small speckles of color
